Missoni button-neck knit

By admin on September 10th, 2008

missoni knit jumper.jpg
Autumn has arrived and with it comes all those lovely warm autumnal colours like aubergine, pumpkin and burgundy. Missoni‘s knit button neck jumper combines all of these with a buttercup yellow, a navy and a grey to stop it looking too fusty.
The deep v-neck will allow you to show off a t-shirt, clashing shirt, or even dare I say it a polo neck. Get it from Browns for £430; winter layering has never been so hot.

Retro tank top from French Connection

By admin on August 28th, 2008

french connection retro tank top knit.jpg
There is something reassuringly old-fashioned about this French Connection tank top (£45), it reminds me of my old Chemistry teacher Mr Strom who would wear zip-up cardies like they were going out of fashion. Which they were.

It’s the combination of burgundy and grey that does it, wear and add some retro schoolboy good looks to your Autumn outfit. For maximum Back to School chic team it with a brown leather satchel and stripy school scarf.

Rykiel Homme kiss jumper

By admin on August 19th, 2008

rykielhomme.jpgWith the V-neck takeover that happened last winter, this year looks to see a comeback for the good ol’ crew neck and one of the best is this Rykiel Homme jumper.

It’s rare to see an oversized graphic jumper look understated, but RH have managed just that. Due to the relatively sombre colours of the design, it manages not to look too OTT whilst remaining eye catching. For a sweater £199.50 is a little steep, but it does make for a great statement piece so it would be worth the investment.

Adam Kimmel polo neck

By admin on August 12th, 2008

adam kimmel grey jumper knit polo.jpgPolo necks are still too Alan Partridge for me; as much as I love our man from Norwich the thought of actually wearing one fills me with dread. Polo necks conjure up images of saintly vicars and friend’s dads, not high fashion.

Adam Kimmel‘s slouchy cowl-neck version of the polo is perfect for fellow fence-sitters, you can roll it up if you’re feeling brave or keep the collar down. The marl-y grey colour is versatile and smart enough for formal looks, and the black trim adds definition to the silhouette. Snap it up for £270 from The Corner.

Embrace your inner lumberjack at Oi Polloi

By Jonathan Smith on August 12th, 2008

2626-300.jpgIt’s a good day for a plaid lover like myself, with trend reports claiming that the American working man is ready to have his time in the fashion lime light the new A/W 08 range from Levi’s has dropped at Oi Polloi.

I’ve been a fan of Levi’s Vintage denim for some time now but have always felt that the range as a whole has left a little to be desired, however this year the line up looks great with some of the usual suspect such as 501′s and 505′s and some awesome (you guessed it) plaid shirts.

So embrace your inner lumberjack and check out the full range after the jump.

French Connection’s vivid blue cashmere jumper

By admin on August 11th, 2008

My new favourite colour is a rich dark blue that falls somewhere between cobalt and navy. Not as obvious as a bright Yves Klein blue but not as trad as straight navy, the colour looks great with the remainders of a tan.

French Connection
‘s new cashmere range includes a gorgeous crew neck in this exact shade for £85. Use it to pep up a wardrobe of neutrals, the slim fit is flattering and wont give any excess bulk to your silhouette. Block colours will also look good with the blue, try out a vivid orange or coral, dove grey or lemon yellow.

Folk Drawstring Cardigan/Corset

By admin on August 6th, 2008

folk0028navyM1.jpgWith tights and make up all seemingly now accepted male staples, why not corsets? That’s what Folk have sneaked into the mainstream with this drawstring cardigan. Initially I thought the most interesting part of this cardigan was the contrasting squares on the neckline creating a lapel-like effect. A look closer revealed something much more interesting, are corsets in for men?

Seeing as there’s now massage cream that claims to give you a six pack, why wouldn’t a man take this easy route to a V shaped physique? It beats spending £27 on cream that can supposedly do crunches for you whilst lowering your body fat. Take this quick fix at Oki-Ni for £115.

La Rentrée: Time for French Connection’s Airspeed Cardigan

By admin on August 5th, 2008

french connection airstrip cardigan grey.jpgAugust is traditionally the month when France shuts down, goes on holiday and people start thinking about ‘La Rentrée’. You could call it the French New Year as the whole country gets gripped by ‘Rentrée’ fever, not just schoolchildren but grown adults too.

Around late August with thoughts of the Rentrée ingrained into my mind I always start feeling a little more preppy, and a little more traditional. French Connection’s Airspeed cardigan (£90) diligently ticks all these boxes and instills the excitment of the Back to School feeling even though it’s been a mighty long time since I set foot in a school! The front placket is a nice detail and with the contrasting pockets it’s a smart choice for winter.

Fred Perry x Tomoki Sukezanne

By admin on July 29th, 2008

fredperryx.jpg
As the old saying goes, ‘another day, another Fred Perry collaboration’. This time with Tomoki Sukezane. It does make a mockery of the whole ‘Fred Perry is for fans of style not fashion’ stance though, as the company are clearly using collaborations as a means to follow trends.

Cynical nit picking aside, this collaboration is right on trend for autumn with the chunky knits and preppy stylings. The knits are made from a cotton and cashmere blend and are available in the four colours above. As it is a Japan based collaboration, I’m not sure when they’ll be available to Europe or America but when news appears, we’ll let you know.

WISHLIST: Stephen Jones ‘Cactus’ Beanie

By Will Reid on July 22nd, 2008

Cactus.jpgStephen Jones, the milliner extraordinaire and all-round fashion hero, has just released his collection for Spring/Summer 2008 and it is the ‘Cactus Hat’ from this ‘Desert Rose’ JonesBoy collection that takes place as the 19th thing on our WISHLIST.

The ‘Cactus Hat’ is a mixture of wool and beads and shows a desert landscape (or at least the kind of desert where each cactus plant is perfectly tipped with a vibrant orange bead.) So who needs the summer? We might not be getting any sun but now you can wear the season on your head while actually staying warm.

Alexander McQueen paisley jumper

By admin on July 18th, 2008

alexander mcqueen paisley jumper embroidered knit.jpgLike deck shoes paisley is one of those things I always hated as a child but looking at this Alexander McQueen embroidered jumper I’m starting to come round.

It helps that the paisley isn’t the usual stodgy red and green which belies its interesting history but a rather more delicate affair. The branchlets lend a south-east Asian feel and the placement on the shoulders is quirky without being too obtrusive. The slight snag? The $1,225 price tag. I’ll have to make do with M&S dressing gowns for now I guess.

By admin on July 4th, 2008

bret mckenzie sweatshirt jumper flight of the conchords.jpg
Watching Flight of the Conchords the other night I was struck by just how many comedy retro jumpers Bret McKenzie wears. From ’80s sweatshirts with Arctic wolves and pine trees to snowflake pattern woolly nan jumpers the Kiwi comedian has got his bases covered.

French Connection marl Tivity knit

By admin on June 23rd, 2008

french connection marl jumper.jpgThe marl effect of this fine gauge khaki jumper is nice way of adding some subtle texture to an outfit.

Team with a white t-shirt, white canvas pumps and a pair of tailored grey trousers for a simple office outfit. Alternatively for a more fashion-forward look team the jumper with toning neutrals in greys and khakis. Lightweight (but not combat!) trousers in greenish grey will look great teamed with utilitarian accessories like an army knapsack or a surply army t-shirt. The ‘Tivity’ jumper will set you back £50 from French Connection.

J Lindeberg merino cardigan

By admin on June 2nd, 2008

j lindeberg grey cardigan.jpgA perfect grey v-neck cardigan is something to be cherished, I never take off my Uniqlo men’s one but this one from J Lindeberg is pretty special. The fine merino knit looks great and despite the fact that the waistband isn’t ribbed but is straight the overall cut and proportion are spot on.

It’s fairly pricey at 144EUR but a perfect grey cardigan is a precious thing, less formal than a jacket and made for this time of year. The sober grey colour will tone down any fashion flights of fancy and instantly smartens up a casual outfit.

Yoko Devereaux SupermarketHQ sale

By admin on May 20th, 2008

ydcollage copy.jpg

Sometimes a bargain is too good to pass on, regardless of what season the clothing’s designed for. This Yoko Devereaux double breasted cardigan is currently going for $32, which is 75% off the retail price. Other bargains are this trench coat for $49 and this Queen print shirt for $17.

The downside to this near giveaway is that they only ship to the United States and Canada, anyone living elsewhere will have to look at the pictures and dream of wearing these pieces. I’m not sure what’s worse: missing a sale or finding a sale won’t deliver to your neck of the woods. These are the kind of dilemmas that should be going on the Jeremy Kyle show.
