Jimmy Choo opens first men’s store in London

By Elisabeth on November 2nd, 2011

British luxury footwear and accessories label Jimmy Choo has opened its first men’s only store in London.

You can find the new store, which extends across two floors, in fashionable Burlington Arcade where you can browse the complete assortment of Jimmy Choo men’s shoes.

A favourite among women for years, the brand debuted its men’s shoes for autumn/winter 2011. The collection includes styles such as lace-ups, loafers and side zip boots, as well as slippers, biker boots and trainers, all creating the perfect balance between classicism and Rock ‘n’ Roll style.

The store reflects the global design concept for the men’s collection, and its interior colour scheme of charcoal grey, black and silver evokes a modern gentlemanly aesthetic with a hint of a 1960s Mayfair playboy. Ebonised wood fuses with grey flannel and English pewter hardware to further reference the sartorial inspiration.

Describing the store, Tamara Mellon OBE, Jimmy Choo founder and Chief Creative Officer said: “I want it to feel as though you are walking into a gentleman’s club, with all the luxurious appointments and comforts. It’s a mod update on an English men’s smoking lounge.”

You can also buy the collection online.

Skate For Cancer takes on France

By Laura on June 2nd, 2011

Skate for Cancer (S4C) was started by Rob Dyer after he lost a number of important people including his mother to Cancer. Anyone who has ever met Rob will tell you that he is a truly inspirational individual who turned something very tragic into a source of inspiration, dedicating himself to raising awareness of cancer amongst young people.

In 2004, S4C was formed as a project that would see him and his crew skate across North America, building awareness and raising money to fight cancer. Since then he has now skateboarded across North America, New Zealand and Australia. Next up he will be tacking France

S4C is about “inspiring youth and building a community of informed people who were hyped on getting involved and making healthy choices that prevented contracting the disease in the first place. Rob always understood the importance of medical research, but felt that his purpose was to focus more on the preventative lifestyle decisions that are often ignored by many charities. Instead of concentrating on collecting money for research, Rob preferred to inspire people…”

Rob is an amazing individual who proves on a daily basis just how much one can achieve with a little bit of passion. To follow his journey as he prepares to for his Skate across France you can check out his blog here.

Tripped out Nike SB Zoom Stefan Janoski Mid commercial

By Laura on April 5th, 2011

This is probably one of the most bizarre ads Nike has ever created, but honestly I think it is pure genius. The short revolves around Nike’s latest release – the Zoom Stefan Janoski Mid, and features a psychedelic medley of skateboarding, and some crazy animation. Trust me on this one… just go watch it. The Zoom Stefan Janoski Mid will be available in two colorways this month through your local SB dealer.

135 Years of Jockey

By Laura on March 29th, 2011

Last week Brandish was invited to celebrate 135 years of Jockey Underwear, at an impressive international catwalk show. The show saw the brand go back to its roots, showcasing a number of heritage pieces from its original collection in 1879, before introducing some of Jockey’s more updated collections for A/W 2011.

GQ Editor Dylan Jones, hosted the night and provided the audience with product highlights from Jockey’s 135 history, from its beginnings with predecessor Samuel T Cooper and classic all-in-ones, to the space underwear created for NASA and the 3D Innovations collection of today.

The Models moved through different eras through in a highly choreographed show, that even featured dubstep at one point. The new collections that were revealed within the catwalk, included the latest USA Originals range, meant to encapsulate the ‘American Way of Life’, the Urban Luxury range and Countryside range, representing the North American outdoors.

Overall it was a great night and a really fun way to not only see how Jockey have grown as a brand, but how their product has really developed over the years. Trust me, I am glad no one is rocking the onesy anymore!

London Fashion Week – Acne Fall 2011 collection

By Laura on February 23rd, 2011

When Acne creative director Jonny Johansson was asked about the Men’s Fall 2011 collection he shrugged and stated “All the tailoring—I thought that was in the moment, something fresh. I’m tired of all this heritage, the older models or whatever. It’s time for something young.” Here at Brandish we completely agree!

The collection includes a series of overcoats paired with suit pants, as well as very sartorial two-piecers. With TV influences like Mad Men the suit is becoming increasingly popular amongst younger generations and it’s labels like Acne that they’ll turn to.

The collection over all is very youthful with slightly cropped pants and low-buttoning jackets in different styles all in Italian bonded wool. The pallet sees accents of raspberry, royal blue, or teal. Johansson stated that the clothing was made for “that moment when you’re not grown up and at the same time, not a kid. The kind of sexual energy that brings.”

Vans California Washed Pack

By Laura on February 23rd, 2011

The Vans California Washed Pack, were released this month as a part of their spring collection. Produced with a unique washed effect, they have that worn-in vintage look that usually only get after wearing your shoes into the ground. They are available in various styles including the Authentic Deacon CA and Slip-on Deacon CA in four colorways of stone washed canvas with desaturated tones and soft, comfortable uppers. While I realise not everyone likes the distressed look – these are going to look great as soon as the warmer weather hits.

This morning for the 10th consecutive season Irish designer, Paul Costelloe, kicked off London Fashion week with his very sophisticated yet colorful collection for Fall/Winter 2011.

Costelloe cites ‘home grown fashion’ as the inspiration for the collection. From Harris tweed from Scotland, luxury plaids and herringbones from Ireland, and beautiful bright cashmere wool from England, this collection is truly reflective of UK style.

The menswear collection saw a lot of round collared shirts, suave velvet burgundy blazers and a smattering of olive and khaki. Overall both the men’s and women’s collection has a simple yet chic 60/70s feel that is very wearable.

The Paul Costelloe collection was the perfect way to kick off fashion week. I can’t wait to see more!
