Jefferson Hack appeared in casual elegance with girlfriend Anouck Lepère at the launch of Tracy Emin’s travelling chess set. Hack sported a boat-neck jumper, dark jeans and livened up the outfit with brothel creepers and tartan socks in acid brights.
Commissioned by art company RS&A as part of a collection with fellow artists Barbara Kruger, Damien Hirst and Rachel Whiteread, Emin’s set is made of bronze pieces with a multicoloured board of quilted fabric that can be rolled up and placed inside an embroidered cloth bag. The British artist was inspired by her travels: “I used to play a lot of chess as a child,” she says, “but I stopped when I was about 10. The last time I played was in Africa in the middle of nowhere, so I like the idea of producing a travelling chess set.”

The Desert Boot is a design classic and is one of those items which never really goes out of style. I recently saw a well-dressed chap on the street sporting a suede pair with some tracksuit-bottom style cuffed trousers and it made a great outfit.
Clarks Originals have some great traditional colours available for Autumn, their Desert Boot comes in cream, tan and ebony. They’ve also updated the look and brought out a pair in shimmering peach or silver and they’re about a hundred times better looking than they sound on paper.
The peach pair would look great with some faded grey jeans and in my dreams I’d love to see the silver pair as part of an all-metallic outfit… What? Pictures after the jump.

The massive queue, deep in denim conversation.
As we arrived to Neal Street this morning the queue outside the Diesel shop snaked around Earlham Street and almost spilled out onto Seven Dials.
The fuss was for Diesel’s Dirty Thirty limited edition jeans, created to celebrate thirty years of diesel, modelled by Daisy Lowe and retailing for just £30 you can see why so many people turned up for the one-day only sale. 160 Diesel shops are taking part in the promotion, and we stopped to chat to the patient shoppers at the Covent Garden store.
Take a look at the gallery on Catwalk Queen.

Fashion designer Kenzo Takada is selling his Paris house after twenty years, and he’s posed for some great pictures to inspire even the most credit crunched to make a purchase.
Kenzo’s house is located on the border of the Bastille and Marais neighbourhoods and was built by the designer himself over the course of six years. It’s an impressive 1,300 square metres and boasts a Koi carp pond and Japanese style dining room.

The latest issue of Another Man reads like a Who’s Who of not only the fashion industry but the world of art, music and acting. Jam-packed with features on Lucien Freud, a list of ‘Style Icon’ profiles scribed by the artistic elite and tribute stories to John Galliano (a designer who haunts my dreams,) and Martin Margiela (a designer who borders on haunting my nightmares.)
Dazed Digital tells us that the issue provides an “insight into the world of fashion with work from the world’s leading photographers and stylists including Nicola Formichetti, Norbert Schoerner, Alister Mackie, Gareth McConnell, David Armstrong, Tyler Udall, Serge Leblon, Bryan McMahon, Sandra Freij, Paul Wetherell, Mattias Karlsson, Lina Scheynius.”

Annie Leibovitz, Sean Connery, the Bahamas, Marc Jacobs and plenty of Louis Vuitton- sounds like a pretty enticing mix, doesn’t it? Well no longer must it remain a fantasy as days after Brandish giving you the gossip,WWD has released the ex-007′s advert for the French luxury-fashion house. After Keith Richards and Francis Ford Coppola, Leibovitz has again captured a mature cool that is slowly abolishing the bling/label-whore mood often synonymous with Vuitton’s accessories. The image above tells that “some journeys turn into legends” and the campaign is called ‘Core Values,’ emphasising heritage and a more sophisticated, timeless approach to fashion.
In these times of economic crunch, I know that I’ll be looking for pieces to invest in and that might just extend to a collection of these campaign images.

Hey! Don’t think for one minute that I’m agreeing about the lack of menswear at LFW and the general confusion at the amount of fashion weeks (ahem!), but you should go and take a look at the rest of Sunday Best‘s most recent ‘One Leg at a Time’ cartoon. It’s pure teh fashion lolz.
On an admin tip, Man About Town magazine has the best fashion events calendar in their latest issue. It’s so useful I might even get it tattoed on one of my bumcheeks in a Reverend Peter Mullen-style protest.

Details magazine caught up with the three guys from Gossip Girl recently in an interview which saw Brit bad boy Ed Westwick proclaim he was Batman… Er, ok!
Co-stars Penn Badgley and Chace Crawford also get a grilling in the forthcoming issue, with Crawford making clear the intentions for his character: “I’m hoping for a fall from grace for Nate. Five years from now, I better have murdered someone!”

Andre Benjamin (also known as Andre 3000) is taking part in the latest ‘Declare Yourself’ campaign which urges American youths to cast their vote as to who should be the next President of their country. Christina Aguilera and Jessica Alba also star in the campaign but it’s Andre’s image that has caught my attention.
Gagged with one of his own bow-ties, the campaign tells that “only you can silence yourself.”

Antony Price worked for Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music in the ’80s as a stylist and was responsible for the Lou Reed ‘Transformer’ album cover. Pivotal in forming the louche, ultra sexy look that defined that period Price has also collaborated with David Bowie and Duran Duran. He currently works on made-to-measure as well as Daphne Guinness’ line of shirts.
His latest project is the ‘Priceless’ range for Topman, consisting of suits, overcoats and shirts. The emphasis is on tailoring and quality, which is reflected in the prices (£50 to £180 for a suit). The collection debuts on November 3rd, and it will be available from the London flagship store as well as online.

TV on the Radio sort of passed me by, I always thought they were one of those generic indie ‘four boys and a guitar’ type bands but listening to tracks from their latest album ‘Dear Science’ I realised the error of my ways.
Just in time too, as I spotted Kyp Malone recording for Jools Holland’s show. That bushy but neat beard, those round tortoiseshell glasses, that guitar strap and the gold print tee… Finally! A man who knows how to wear a waistcoat, a great example to us all. Shame Boyzone aren’t TV on the Radio fans.

I’m not the biggest fan of custom-altered off the peg suits, if you want a well-fitting suit then save up and visit a tailor.
Having said that there’s no denying that a personalised suit serves a purpose and is great for those who want the next step up from off the peg. Suitopia, a Swedish company, offer a service which includes embroidered initials, choice of fabrics and cut. Their fabrics are all reassuringly tasteful variations on grey, petrol blue and brown but the thing which endears me most to the company is their mustachioed man wearing their suit of the month, above.

The Olsens are obviously very busy at the moment, their coffee table fashion tome ‘Influence’ is released at the end of October and now they’ve announced plans for a menswear range which could be available as soon as next Autumn.
This could be more of a solo venture however as Ashley has taken control over The Row until her sister Mary-Kate ‘has her personal life together’.
Either way, The Row has proven itself to be one of the more interesting -albeit expensive, celebrity ranges so it will be interesting to see what Ashley comes up with.

Sunday night was a lot more exciting than I’d like it to be when I got my mitts on the new issue of Fantastic Man, it was downing a triple shot of fashion caffeine. Perfect-bound, nearly double the normal amount of pages and now with Charlie Porter as their Deputy Editor I can’t think of a single reason why you wouldn’t want this in your life.
Featuring interviews with Will Oldham and Tyler Brûlé the magazine is also packed with new features and fashion shoots which goes someway to explain why I didn’t get to sleep until the wee hours last night. It has also introduced curator Okwui Enwezor to me, his off-duty uniform of vintage denim workshirt and silk scarf has been burnt onto my brain. See after the jump for more images.

Beautiful People, Simon Doonan‘s memoirs about growing up in Reading amongst his eccentric family have been made into a BBC series. which will start
The New York-based window dresser has come a long way from his beginnings in a cork factory. He moved down to London in search of glamour and glitz and was soon creating windows for Aquascutum and Nutters of Savile Row. Before long an invite to LA to dress windows came up: ” I didn’t even question it and before I knew it I was on a plane. I hadn’t been to America before, but I moved there. I was 25, and it was the best thing I ever did.”
Beautiful People starts on the 2nd of October on BBC2
