Just two weeks ago, Brandish reviewed the first edition of the Sunday Times Style Magazine’s ‘Mr Mills’ menswear and style column. I decided that Mills needed to brighten up a bit and make the column a little more cheery and summer-inclined if he was to hold the attention of readers. Well, call me egotistical, but is it pure coincidence that the latest edition of the column featured pieces on swim trunks, sunglasses, lime green hair oil and bright-coloured ties?
Zoo Magazine has just released its ‘music’ issue with a set of four great covers. One sees Irina Lazareanu and Sean Lennon staring wide-eyes and iconicly-indie towards the camera. The second cover is just Irina, the third is Mick Jagger with a peek of 64-year old (yet washboard) stomach and the fourth stars Billy Idol.
Last week’s diet poll obviously hit home for a lot of you- but in a way that I had not expected. I confess to being a guy who is conscious of my weight and I have dieted. I see nothing wrong with wanting to fit into a pair of skinny jeans but thought I was of a minority. However, that appears not to be the case; 57% of you voted that there was nothing wrong with watching your weight and had therefore dieted.
Brandish favourites D.I.E have recently sneaked out their A/W08 collection. Expanding on the pop culture theme, they’ve now included Andy Warhol amongst the influences for their tees. T-shirts aside, they’ve included shawl collars on check jackets, colour blocked jumpers and geometric print cardigans. View more of the collection after the jump.
Remember Graniph? If you don’t (and you’re too lazy to click the link) it was a t-shirt site which also hosted a competition to find new designers. The winners were split into one gold prize, ten silver prizes and nineteen bronze ones with Cho Jo Tzu taking the gold with her ‘Peace Love Rabbit Foot’ design.
This is only vaguely fashion related but who can resist Brandish favourites Kanye West and Andre 3000 doing a bit of choreographed dancing? The other partakers in this slightly bizarre video are beatmakers Sa-Ra and P.Diddy’s former butler-turned-singer Fonzworth Bentley. Together they call themselves C.O.L.O.U.R.S which stands for cool outrageous lovers of uniquely raw style.

Danish designer Kaspar Harup-Hansen is the latest addition to the Topman Lens roster of designers which includes names like Dexter Wong and Carolyn Massey. Topman’s Design Director Gordon Richardson says: “I have admired Kaspar’s use of Japanese fashion combined with Copenhagen street inspiration. He uses twisted well known classics, with special processing and exquisite detailing.” I like the subtle play on silhouette using familiar items like shirts and hoodies.
The new Batman film, Dark Knight, has been causing quite a stir throughout the film industry. Heath Ledger’s stellar acting, the new and improved Batmobile, the expectations thrust upon Christian Bale- all these things are no doubt exciting but how did the creative edge of this film translate onto the red carpet?
Read on for full details of this thriller evening.

Bobby Gillespie et al played a gig recently to promote Diesel Black Gold, the premium collection launched by the Italian brand this Spring. Bassist Mani sported a Gallic ensemble of red and white striped top and white jeans but I don’t think he had Liz Hurley in mind.
Kriss Van Assche must be shaking in his billowing trousers right now. Hedi Slimane is contemplating a return to fashion, according to DNR news. When asked about his desire to rejoin the fashion the world he answered “Of course, But it has to be right–the right project”. Little else is known about the label, except that it will more than likely be under his own name.
Apparently, news of dVB’s mens denim line being pushed back was either wrong or premature. A rep told New York magazine that the report was inaccurate and that dVb jeans are due to be released on schedule. You can buy yourself some proper mens jeans in Holiday season (I’m guessing that’s around December) this year.
Dear Brandish readers, If you’ve tried to comment on any of our posts recently you’ll notice that… you haven’t been able to comment on any of our posts recently. This is just a temporary measure which we’ve needed to bring in due to technical reasons far too dull and clothing-unrelated to go into here. At the risk of sounding like …
It was revealed yesterday afternoon that the latest issue of Vogue Germany, has a multiple cover. One goes to Toni Garrn and the other to Brandish fave Daniel Craig.
Daniel is shot by Rankin in an okay editorial and the cover headline is “Mr. Style & Mrs. Chic…” I like the colour palette of hot red with the white-light background and cool colours of Craig’s outfit but the pout is a bit off and the turn of this good-looker’s head makes it look as if he has an odd and inflamed left-ear.
If you couldn’t wait to get your hands on a pair of men’s dVb jeans, you’ll have to wait a good while longer as retailers have refused to stock it. It’s not yet known whether she’ll retreat to the drawing board (she might even include some of those skinny jeans she hates) or whether they’ll just lower the price point. Either way, the line has been pushed back to at least next year.
The Guardian have released a ‘summer ’08 cool list’. Amongst those included are Henrik Vibskov, Yvan from Face Hunter, Nicola Formichetti and, um, Leigh Lezark (this is a 2008 list, right?) As is standard procedure for this type of thing, there are a couple of names thrown in because they were hot that week (looking at you Noel Clarke) and a few that should’ve got their props a while ago (Saam Farahmand). No word yet on whether any of them will still be cool by winter ’08.
Alexa Chung ‘won’ it, by the way.
