Mark Ronson hints at plans for clothing range

By admin on September 9th, 2008

mark ronson suits clothing daisy lowe.jpgPretty soon there isn’t going to be a single celebrity left who doesn’t have their own clothing line and even Patrick Kielty will be down at Brixton Market trying to flog a 3-pack of Kielty socks for a fiver.

Mark Ronson, pictured left with Daisy Lowe is the latest to get in on the act saying “I get all these style awards which I love and so we are chatting about a line of suits now. I like the idea of trying my hand at that really.” Expect to see slim-fitting retro-inspired suits from the New York producer.

Do You Dare: YSL Touche Eclat for Men!

By Will Reid on September 8th, 2008

toucheeclat2.jpgHungover, Sleep-deprived, Over-worked, Unfit, Uncared for, Blemish-ridden; not exactly the ingredients for a healthy and handsome male are they? Well now, who cares? After you’ve smudged the Guyliner and poked yourself in the eye with Manscara, you might feel yourself in need of a bit of YSL’s new Touche Eclat concealer for men.

Yes, the weapon of choice for fashion editors and socialites the world over has been produced (fragrance free) for men, allowing the male species to live a life of clear skin and hidden ugliness.

The only question is, after previous (and let’s face it, unsuccessful attempts) at man make-up, will this gold pen/magic wand be bought up by us men?

L’Officiel Hommes Singapore: Launch Issue with Dior Homme, Kris Van Assche and Cole Mohr!

By Will Reid on September 8th, 2008

l'officielhommes.jpgL’Officiel Hommes has just launched in Singapore and their launch issue is a high-fashion, Dior Homme-loaded festival of sartorial savoir-faire.

By this I mean that we’re given great editorials with the likes of model Cole Mohr, photographer Milan Vukmirovic, and Dior Homme-designer Kris Van Assche directing a 10-page editorial featuring only Dior Homme clothes! The magazine has really pulled out all the stops for this issue and it is hopefully the precedent for a great future.

See after the jump for a full review with pictures from every editorial!

Henry Holland gives Levi’s the 90210 treatment

By admin on September 2nd, 2008

hoh_90210levisannounce.jpgFrom Catwalk Queen:
House of Holland is once again teaming up with Levi’s for a six-piece capsule collection, which has been inspired by Beverly Hills 90210.

Being a tribute to 90210 , does that mean we can expect a bit of stone-wash, mum-waist, rolled-up jean a la Dylan McKay style? Hmm… perhaps not.

Pieces will feature print and laser-cut jeans style, making use of floral and polka dot designs.

Just like his debut range for the denim brand, Holland will showcase his new collection at his forthcoming London Fashion Week show on September 17th. Only this time, they will go straight into Selfridges for sale the day after the show.

Talk about hot off the catwalk.

L.A Gear are back from the abyss

By Jonathan Smith on September 2nd, 2008

La-Gear-X-Patta-Party-1.jpgL.A Gear are back! “Hurrah!” I hear you cry, and you would be right to because L.A Gear are a cheer worthy brand. Harking from the same era as the Reebok Pump – one of the greatest trainers of all time – in an age when it wasn’t enough for trainers to be comfortable and look good, they had to have some other way to interact with such as a pump or lighting system. Judging by the success of the relaunch of the Reebok Pumps these should sell well and be highly sought after by sneaker freaks.

The trainer will be available at Patta from September 13th.

V&A’s Cold War Modern badge collection

By admin on August 29th, 2008

cold war modern v&a badge collection.jpg
There’s nothing like a good badge to add a bit of interest to your outfit. I’m not talking about those cheesy badges you get from head shops when you’re 14 but more the homemade, pictoral and arty make a nice little addition to a plain top or tee.
The V&A’s Cold War Modern badge collection is near perfect with slogans like ‘Blast’ and ‘Fall-out’ and my favourite, a pigeon. Who doesn’t love pigeons? At the bargain price of £3 they’re well worth the purchase and will look a lot better than your usual ‘take me to your dealer’ cobblers.

Premièring yesterday at the 65th Venice Film Festival was Valentino: The Last Emperor, a documentary chronicling the designer’s last two years at Valentino.
With Vanity Fair’s Matt Tymauer directing, the film follows Valentino and his partner Giancarlo Giammetti with over 250 hours of footage shot.
The première was a ritzy affair with Elizabeth Hurley, Diane Kruger, and Charlize Theron in attendance. Valentino turned up looking his usual mahogany self and Fiat hier/Italian playboy Lapo Elkann accompanied girlfriend Bianca Brandolini D’Adda.

Burton release Heritage collection

By admin on August 28th, 2008

I recently purchased a pair of high-waisted, striped men’s trousers from a charity shop that are from Burton back in the day when it was still called Montague Burton. It was an exciting find and they fit like heaven so when I found out Burton were releasing their Heritage collection my ears pricked up.
First here’s a little history lesson: born Moshe Osinsky, Montague Burton came to England as a refugee from Lithuania and founded the company we now know as Burton.

Justin Timberlake’s William Rast

By admin on August 27th, 2008

From Catwalk Queen: The first trailers of Justin Timberlake’s multimedia campaign for his label, William Rast, have surfaced. Starring Erin Wasson, who actually injured herself in the making of these short films, they depict JT as William Rast, a Texan on the run with his girlfriend ‘Birdie’ played by Wasson.

JT was originally planning to take a step back until creative directors Johan and Marcella Lindeberg presented Timberlake with the idea.

Check out more trailers after the jump…

Computer Kylie? Moving Maddona? Esquire Bag The ‘First Ever Digital Cover!’

By Will Reid on August 26th, 2008

aliEsquire0468.jpgA fantastically over-the-top and outrageously extravagant magazine issue seems to be à la mode for the brand anniversaries of today. Lacoste reworked Visionaire for their 75th Anniversary and now Esquire, the mens lifestyle magazine, is celebrating their 75th (coincidence?) with the World’s first ‘Digital Cover.’ In Brandish speak: a cover that actually moves!

There will only be 100,000 copies of this issue and when it appears on newsstands come September, it will boast that “the 21st Century Begins Now!” The New York Times reports that the issue will come with an attached battery pack.

Who will get the cover- an undoubtedly huge boost for any career!

DJ Spoony reveals his shopping secrets

By admin on August 22nd, 2008

dj spoony golf shopping guardian.jpgDJ Spoony has been telling the Guardian about his favourite type of shirts, where his manbag is from and all other types of fashion-related stuff.
A bit of a surprise was the mention of Burton in his favourite UK shopping destinations:

“For clothes, Harvey Nichols or Selfridges are good. And Burton is nice now as well, honestly. I’ve found some real gems with their jeans and T-shirts. They fit beautifully and they wash well.”

I have to say his description of shopping is in my mind the only way it should be done: “I’m a hitman – in and out.”

Stefano Pilati in Interview September 2008- Words Cannot Describe Him!

By Will Reid on August 22nd, 2008

interviewpilati1sept08.jpgI’ve just caught up on the contents of the September 2008 issue of the newly Fabien Baron-designed Interview magazine (we featured Marc Jacob’s cover a few months back) and found these pictures of Stefano Pilati, the YSL designer and all-round sartorial inspiration.

I can’t even write about them except to just point out the obvious: they’re jaw-droppingly brilliant.

See after the jump for more!

Bobby Womack: Making square glasses look good

By admin on August 21st, 2008

womackcollage.jpg
[Click picture to enlarge]

While the term style icon is overused, I would like to nominate Bobby Womack up for the entirely made up award of coolest glasses wearer. His overall style wasn’t amazing, but he wore square glasses better than anyone I’ve seen (not that I’ve seen many people wearing square glasses).

After reading his autobiography, I felt compelled to anoint him with this title. Aside from wearing glasses well, Womack’s worked with, toured with or played for everyone from Jimi Hendrix to Sam Cooke to Janis Joplin. In fact he was the second to last person to see Joplin before she died (the last was her dealer, according to Womack). He was also the inspiration behind ‘Mercedes Benz’ and convinced Sam Cooke to not release ‘A change is gonna come’ (it was only released after Cooke died).

With clear glasses getting more popular by the day, why not step outside the box and follow in the footsteps of Mr Womack?

Aidan Moffat dispenses love advice

By admin on August 21st, 2008

aidan moffat the quietus arab strap column love advice.jpgArab Strap once released a gem of a song called ‘General Plea to a Girlfriend’ which contained the following lyrics:

I can’t make boasts about my body.
The workmanship is somewhat shoddy.
Sometimes I overwork my gob.
Can’t buy you gifts I’ve got no job.

So it may surprise you to learn that Aidan Moffat, the miserable-voiced vocalist of the band has a sex and love column in new online mag The Quietus.

It will surprise you even more to learn that his column is an amazing piece of genius. In one response he tells someone writing in about a troublesome open relationship:

“I’ll be honest with you, James, I think you people are fucked in the head.” Priceless.

Kanye West’s Pastelle preview

By admin on August 20th, 2008

kanye-west-pastelle-preview-1.jpg

Seeing as Mr. West is an established favourite here at Brandish, we feel it only fair to link to a sneak preview of his Pastelle line. As until now pictures of Pastelle clothing have been a rare joy and although the line is due out in November, this doesn’t look set to change. If Vman went through a load of hassle to get the pictures – the tagline reads ‘if only you knew what we went through to get these pictures’ – what hope is there for the rest of us?

The clothes themselves are wearable, if a little unremarkable, but I’ll assume that given the probable high price point they’ll be made using impeccable tailoring and materials. See the rest of the pictures after the jump.
