Fans of Sonia Rykiel Homme will be sad to hear that after it’s SS 09 collection, it will be no more. The reason for this is, despite running for two decades, they’ve never actually made money on their collection.
Esquire magazine’s best dressed list
Esquire magazine’s best dressed list has been gathering attention lately – mostly for not featuring David Beckham. Hopefully, other magazines will follow suit and realise that they’re not contractually obliged to include Mr Beckham on the list. People who did make the list include Jeremy Paxman, Barack Obama, Lapo Elkann, Fabio Capello, Christian Bale and Lupe Fiasco.
Nas does Complex Cover shoot
Non followers of Hip-Hop may be surprised to know Erykah Badu is widely credited with transforming Andre 3000’s – and to a lesser extent, Common’s – style. On the basis of this Complex cover shoot, you could say that Kelis is doing the same for Nas.
Converse Leather Jacket trainers
We rarely feature Converse because they’re so popular there’s next to no point in doing so. Even the special editions are worn by every Tarquin, Richard and Harold. With all that said, I am particularly looking forward to these leather jacket trainers.
Incredible Hulk t-shirt from French Connection
The Incredible Hulk film is out on Friday and features Liv Tyler and Ed Norton as the Hulk. While I can’t promise it will be better than the TV series you can at least pledge your allegiance to old-school Hulk with this ‘Comic Boom’ tee.
Loewe to unveil menswear collection from Stuart Vevers
From our womenswear blog, Catwalk Queen…
Chanel take up residence at Dover Street Market
It’s only been a few weeks since their heavily discounted ‘Market’ event, but Dover Street Market are once again giving you even more reason to put them at the top of your ‘favourite shops’ list. Chanel is currently making its debut at DSM, pitching up until the 25th June with a collection covering five floors.
GFW catwalk report: Westminster
The Westminster show is always a treat and with people like GQ ed Dylan Jones in the audience you know the calibre is going to be high. Sarah Senouci’s collection consisted of impeccably-finished English summer attire gently infused with retro Americana. Romantic foppishness combined with dusty farmboy to give Stand By Me meets Brideshead Revisited.
GFW catwalk report: Rochester
We’re liveblogging from the tents at this year’s Graduate Fashion Week, apologies for the image quality here is the verdict from the catwalks. The Rochester students presented a very strong menswear collection this year, (from left to right)Minne Muztuccari kicked things off with a range of deconstructed jodphurs with sliky jersey panels and built-up ruffled jackets.
Jess Cartner Morley dissects Barack Obama’s style
With an admirable eye for detail the Guardian’s Jess Cartner-Morley has being giving the US presidential candidate’s dress sense the once over:
Barack Obama‘s own wardrobe has been striking in its simplicity.
England Goalie David James strips off for Father’s Day and Everyman Male Cancer Campaign
I got really excited when I saw this press release as I thought it was about David Jason stripping off for charity. Veering between excited and repulsed I was mostly relieved when I saw it was actually England goalie David James.
Sale Alert: Threadless
Brandish is turning into the place to go if you’re a t-shirt lover. First Richard brings you a collection of amazing t-shirts and now we’re telling you that Threadless are having a sale. Not just any sale, mind you. They’re holding a summer blockbuster sale where shirts are going for $10. If you’ve needed to stock up on summer tee’s, now’s your chance. Be quick – the sale ends on the 8th of June.
Tom Ford spoofs ‘in treatment’
At this year’s CFDA awards, Thom Browne, Michael Bastian and Tom Ford all starred in a spoof of HBO series In Treatment. As someone who’d never heard of that show until I just googled it, the spoof kind of went over my head. Ford’s a believable actor in this though, if the whole fashion thing wasn’t going so well, he probably could consider acting as a career. See for yourself after the jump.
Would you buy from a company that had an unsavoury owner?
I bring this up because the Guardian has an article about American Apparel’s founder Dov Charney, focusing on a recent sexual harassment case of his and talking about his previous sexual harassment cases. Just how much does the owner of a company affect whether you buy their product?
Spooks’s Rupert Penry-Jones steps up for Austin Reed
As of this autumn, Austin Reed will welcome a new face to its ranks in the form of Spooks star Rupert Penry-Jones…
Bill Cosby wants you to buy his jumpers
With the hippin’ and the hoppin’ and the bippin’ and the boppin’… I love Bill Cosby, even in his awful film Ghost Dad he is endearing. So why doesn’t anyone want his jumpers?
The NY Times describes the one in the middle as ‘the Saved by the Bell theme song in knitted form’ and they’re not wrong.
Next fashion hook-up: P Diddy and David Beckham?
Are these two faces the next Dolce & Gabbana, Proenza Schouler or Olsen twins? If P. Diddy has his way (and does he ever not?!), the rapper and football star David Beckham will be the next designer duo to make waves in the fashion industry.
Breaking news: Yves Saint Laurent dies, aged 71
The fashion world has awoken today to the sad news that it has lost one of its most beloved designers. Yves Saint Laurent passed away Sunday evening after a long undisclosed illness, aged 71.
Roberto Cavalli unlikely to do another diffusion line
Roberto Cavalli’s H&M diffusion line was a major success sales wise but he’s unlikely to do another range, if a recent Telegraph interview was anything to go by. In the interview, Cavalli also stated that he “detest(s) men – dressed or naked” – which goes a long way to explaining why his menswear range for H&M was so awful.
Celeb Style: BoyZone’s Bare-Chest Comeback
There are times I love gorging over celebrity looks; Cannes glamour, Oscar glory, MTV glitz. Then there are times when rather rubbish boybands return with a receding hairline and a group of barely-dressed female dancers, thinking they can win us all over with a rendition of an old classic and a bit of David Brent-dancing. Of course to pretend that BoyZone did not contribute to the Reid family soundrack would be a lie as Ronan’s “When You Say Nothing At All” has not only made my Mum cry but got my brother 16,414 Youtube hits. (I have, myself, never been influenced by that Irish twang and chorus of fiddles and flutes.)
