With the hippin’ and the hoppin’ and the bippin’ and the boppin’… I love Bill Cosby, even in his awful film Ghost Dad he is endearing. So why doesn’t anyone want his jumpers?
The NY Times describes the one in the middle as ‘the Saved by the Bell theme song in knitted form’ and they’re not wrong. Cosby has donated his jumpers to raise money for the educational organisation set up after the death of his son Ennis Cosby. The jumpers represent the pinnacle of ’80s excesses in knitwear at their fit-inducing best and as such I’m quite surprised no one has bid yet.
It might have something to do with the $5,000 starting price but hey, the postage is free!

Are these two faces the next Dolce & Gabbana, Proenza Schouler or Olsen twins? If P. Diddy has his way (and does he ever not?!), the rapper and football star David Beckham will be the next designer duo to make waves in the fashion industry.
P. Diddy, who added designer to his resume with his Sean John fashion empire, has said he admires Beckham’s style and hopes they can turn their friendship into a business collaboration.

The fashion world has awoken today to the sad news that it has lost one of its most beloved designers. Yves Saint Laurent passed away Sunday evening after a long undisclosed illness, aged 71.
The French icon had been battling ill health for some time, and was hospitalised last July with acute respiratory difficulties. According to WWD, he had been bedridden recently, and died at his home yesterday in Paris.

Roberto Cavalli’s H&M diffusion line was a major success sales wise but he’s unlikely to do another range, if a recent Telegraph interview was anything to go by. In the interview, Cavalli also stated that he “detest(s) men – dressed or naked” – which goes a long way to explaining why his menswear range for H&M was so awful.
His main gripe was with celebrity diffusion lines, on which he says “I’m very much against all these celebrities doing diffusion lines…Kate Moss’s collection was badly made, stupid and bland; you see things like that everywhere. You can’t just buy things for the label – it’s ridiculous.”

By Will Reid on June 2nd, 2008
There are times I love gorging over celebrity looks; Cannes glamour, Oscar glory, MTV glitz. Then there are times when rather rubbish boybands return with a receding hairline and a group of barely-dressed female dancers, thinking they can win us all over with a rendition of an old classic and a bit of David Brent-dancing. Of course to pretend that BoyZone did not contribute to the Reid family soundrack would be a lie as Ronan’s “When You Say Nothing At All” has not only made my Mum cry but got my brother 16,414 Youtube hits. (I have, myself, never been influenced by that Irish twang and chorus of fiddles and flutes.)
Imagine my horror when the band recently returned to the O2 Arena in lamé trousers and chest-revealing waistcoats. I never thought I would be saying this but for once Take That could provide sutiable style inspiration.

This is another of those ‘who is actually buying these?’ items that are so bizarre they deserve another look. Apparently there’s a large number of men who feel their derriere is inadequate. That’s prompted Canadian company Bottom’s Up to make padded underwear that boosts your appearance at the back and front.
The sizes are labelled in American football terms, ranging from quarterback to fullback. Quarterback is quite normal looking whilst fullback looks like you’ve cut a basketball in half and stuffed it down the back of your trousers. More worrying than this is the front end of this underwear, which is basically a padded codpiece. If you’ve always been envious of Cameo, these are the pants for you.

In this month’s Details, Lanvin’s Lucas Ossendrijver delivers his 10 rules of style. While we’ve heard some of these rules before, an interesting one he brings up is that ‘You shouldn’t adapt to what people expect you to wear’. I think that’s an interesting point and one to remember when you get stuck in a style rut.
A couple of his other rules are simply variations of this answer, but it’s always good to know what matters to one of the world’s top designers. I didn’t really understand his last rule where Ossendrijver states that:
“I don’t really like wallets. I prefer that you carry your money in your pocket or put everything in a bag and carry it there. Just keep it simple.”
Surely putting all your money and cards into a wallet is simpler than putting it into a bag?

In the London paper today, they’ve stated that silvery grey is the colour of the season. I doubt it will be, due to grey shirts showing sweat more prominently than other colours but that’s not my main steak with this article. More problematic is the colour they’re teaming it up with – pink. Back when men started wearing pink, it was a statement of a softer side, the kind of man who cries watching Sex and the City before going back to chop some wood and crush a beer can on his forehead.
The problem is that in the last couple of years, pink has become very popular amongst men. Specifically, the FHM bloke, who have claimed the pink shirt as their own with the same vigour they claimed Ben Sherman shirts and misogyny. For anyone who doesn’t want to be mistaken for a swaggering idiot, this means pink off the colour menu.

If I were to play a word association game with things from The Wire, the last thing I’d associate with it is high fashion. So I was more than a little surprised to see Jamie Hector and Felicia Pearson – who play Marlo and Snoop – in this weekend’s Guardian sporting Prada and Paul Boateng. On the plus side, it did give me an excuse to pimp the show -which is the greatest TV show ever – to anyone within earshot. A bit like how I’m pimping it now.
The shoot itself was ok but it could have been better. For one, there was an over reliance on blazers and t-shirts, which just look terrible together. Felicia Pearson also just looks uncomfortable out of sporty clothing, so it makes for an awkward looking shoot. The best looks were the Y-3 outfits because the subjects looked comfortable in their outfits and the purple Ozwald Boateng suit, which I would consider wearing if I had a spare £895 lying around.

Sears are trying to expand their market by introducing a new line designed by veteran rapper LL Cool J.
It’s no groundbreaking concept collection, more of a range of t-shirts and jeans, Sears senior vice president Irv Neger said: “We know this [urban] customer is in the store, but it’s a customer we weren’t reaching. With this brand, we see tremendous growth opportunity.”
LL Cool J seems determined to prove his worth as a fashion designer saying: “I was raised by a matriarch, I have a wife and three daughters, so I know what women are looking for when they shop for clothes,”
He added: “My main concern with juniors is to make sure the fit is right. The fabrics have to feel nice on a woman’s body, but sizing and fit are very important. I know that if she comes in, puts it on and it doesn’t fit, she won’t come back. Clothes have to make a woman feel good, relaxed and sexy. We are going to be constantly looking at fine-tuning the fit and we’ll get it right.”

I had originally planned this to be a post all about Quentin Tarantino’s lack of style, but then I realised that he wasn’t the worst offender. I can barely believe I wrote that sentence. This is a man who has the worst leather jacket I’ve ever seen and yet he still isn’t amongst the worst dressed at Cannes. That honour goes to this fine group of gentlemen pictured above.
If you ever needed proof that money can’t buy style, the above picture would be it. Even when they’re following the unwritten premiere code of dressing like you’re going to a funeral, they still get it very wrong. This look would be acceptable if you were a teenager who had to wear an older brother’s suit, but for a grown man – and one who could afford a Savile Row suit if they were so inclined – this is just tragic.

Next week might just be London’s most fashionable week as everyone (me included) does themselves up in hopes of The Sartorialist taking a picture of them. If you want to get Sarted, then you should probably take note of what he likes and doesn’t like.
In this Refinery29 interview Scott Schuman states that he likes ” [being surprised] by a new color and pattern, people really putting some new design sensibility into it, not just all black. I’m really tired of all black. I’m always most happy to see something that is completely unexpected”.
With this said, The Sartorialist has featured a large number of outfits with black in them lately, so maybe he’s changed his mind. Still, I wouldn’t take my chances.

Men.Style.com has a retrospective of its top 20 Cannes fashion moments. Most of the fashion moments come from the 60′s and 70′s, the 80′s has two looks, the 90′s has three and the noughties only get one, that being Brad Pitt’s Tom Ford suit.
The fact that there was only one choice from the 00′s must prove that male movie stars have stopped making an effort. It’s like they’re all afraid of being featured on the worst dressed list and have decided to dress in black suit and tie wherever they go. I’m resisting the urge to go on a rant, but you know there’s a problem when sartorial dullard Daniel Craig gets feted for his fashion sense.
