Ksubi x Kanye sunglasses collection

By admin on May 8th, 2008

It’s rare to see a hip-hop artist so readily accepted by the fashion elite like Kanye West has been. The only other contender is Andre 3000. However, Mr. West is on a level of his own when it comes to designer collaborations. In addition to his Air Yeezys, his clothing label Pastelle also has an upcoming sunglasses collection with Ksubi.

While they look great, they also look pretty similar to the American Apparel sunglasses Isabelle posted yesterday. As the amount of sunglass designs are limited at best, this usually wouldn’t be a problem. But seeing as the AA glasses are going for £30 and Ksubi’s own glasses are retailing at around £100, it’s a bit ridiculous to try and sell these for $2000. If price is no object to you, then you can get these from October.

Hammer pants 2008 style?

By admin on May 6th, 2008

baggytight.jpgApparently, these jeans aren’t a joke. I’m tempted to think that this may be a PR stunt. No one could actually think that these look good. Seeing as they’re being sold at Karmaloop (although it states that it’s out of stock whenever you try to look at them) Soulful Commandoe clearly did.

To call these carrot top jeans – as the company who make them do – would be a gross understatement. They look like two completely different pairs of jeans cut in half and sewn together. I think we have the 80′s trend to thank for this. Having raided everything worth wearing from that decade, people have resorted to denim Hammer pants.

Streetwear labels popping up in GTA IV

By admin on May 1st, 2008

gtafashion.jpgIn its neverending quest to be the greatest game since records began, Grand Theft Auto IV continues to throw up little surprises.

Not content with securing Karl Lagerfeld for one of its radio stations, more attention has been lavished on the sartorial side of the gaming epic with various items from popular streetwear companies appearing on Liberty City’s general public.

LRG’s (at the time fantastically overhyped) Dead Serious hoody, infamously worn by Kanye West, has already been spotted alongside characters completely outfitted in Rockers NYC apparel. As gamers head towards a 4th day locked in their rooms since the game was released, it’s likely we’ll hear a few more surprise label collaborations.

David Blaine holds breath for 17 minutes… In a silver catsuit

By admin on May 1st, 2008

So David Blaine once again hits the headlines thanks to his feat of staying underwater for 17 minutes and 4 seconds, breaking his previous record. For the event, which was screened on Oprah, Blaine donned a fancy silver catsuit and looked like some kind of superhero.
Although with superpowers like holding his breath and card tricks I don’t much fancy his chances at saving my life.

Acne X Lanvin Denim

By admin on May 1st, 2008

Lanvin clearly like what Acne did with Fantastic Man, as they’ve decided to start making denim with the Swedish company. Acne’s previous collaborations bode well for this upcoming one, as the Gentleman’s jean were a great addition and should have been more widely available.

The good news about this is that these two companies almost can’t fail to make something great. The bad news is that it looks likely to be a women’s only line, judging from Alber Elbaz’s comments. It may just have been that FWD didn’t ask about the possibility of a menswear line, so we can still hope. It’s set for a 2009 launch.

John Travolta ‘taches up for the Taking of the Pelham One Two Three remake

By admin on April 29th, 2008

john travolta pelham 123 movie film moustache.jpgJohn Travolta’s new look might raise some eyebrows but at least its better than his dubious hairpiece concoctions we’ve seen in the past.

Not content with starring in the remake of the classic film ‘Hairspray’ (and then refuting that there was anything gay about it…) John Travolta is donning the handlebar moustache for the remake of the Taking of the Pelham One Two Three which will also star Denzel Washington.

The original Taking of the Pelham One Two Three was adapted from a book of the same name and was a thriller about a subway train hijacking. I’m not convinced that this remake (there was another remake in 1998) will be any good, to judge for yourself I’ve put a clip of the original after the jump, surely they can’t do better?

Topman Lens Range on sale

By admin on April 29th, 2008

Regret, Disappointment, A sense of ‘I wish I could have done something’. These are all feelings you get when you miss a sale. Topman have tried to sneakily put the entire Lens range on sale and hoped no one noticed. That means £45 Mjolk trench coats, £15 Material Boy t-shirts and £25 Carolyn Massey shirts all slipping between our fingers.

Not if Brandish can help it. You can show Topman that you’re no fool by buying every Lens item you sorta liked for half the price. At £15, this Material Boy (who we mentioned months before the Lens Range) shirt has got to be worth a shot. Now go forth and spend everything you just earned. Show Topman who’s boss.

Leather Puma Clyde trainers

By admin on April 29th, 2008

As you might have guessed, we’re quite the fans of Puma here. You could say that Puma is our version of crack. No matter how much we try to stay away from it, we just keep on going back for one more hit. This will be the last time you see Puma on Brandish. This week.

The reasons why we’ve decided to hit that crackpipe one more time are these sky blue leather Clydes. Puma have made Clyde their staple shoe, offering variation upon variation of what was once a basketball shoe. Although they should pop up on the official Puma site soon, for now they’re available on Rakuten.

Ponystep is live!

By admin on April 28th, 2008

richard mortimer ponystep boom box.jpgPonystep, the long-awaited project created by BoomBox founder Richard Mortimer is live and packed with fashion features, music and art.

Already a cult website before it had even launched Ponystep boasts an impressive list of contributors as well as Mortimer himself. “I fell in with a really exciting group of people when I first got to London,” Mortimer explains. “I knew very little about anything, and to have people introduce me to new ideas was fantastic. There’s going to inevitably be some self-indulgence, and of course humour. I don’t want it to take itself too seriously – we have to laugh at the absurdity of London sometimes too!”

Marilyn Manson makes Mansinthe, wins awards

By admin on April 28th, 2008

marilyn manson mansinthe absinthe.jpgNot only has the cutely monikered ‘God of Fuck’ brought out an absinthe named Mansinthe it has actually won an award.

Mansinthe is a natural absinthe, distilled from vermouth, aniseed, fennel and other fine herbs and was awarded a gold medal at the 2008 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Manson’s girlfriend recently admitted she’d tried the 66.6% proof tipple with interesting results: “For my birthday, I did one shot to try it, and that was it, I was drunk immediately.” adding: “One shot of it, and you’re out for the night. Three shots of it, you’re dead.”

Vans x Number (N)ine

By admin on April 24th, 2008

Vans, who already have collections with APC and Supreme, have now added Number (N)ine to their extensive list of collaborators. With Number (N)ine’s status on the rise, it looks like a beneficial partnership for both brands rather than piggybacking. But none of that would matter if the trainers were ugly.

Although the collaboration is an exciting one, the trainers themselves are decidedly less so. They look good, but the colours look a little dull. The design on the side looks like a carpet in the 70′s, in a good way. If these tickle your fancy then you can get these from selected retailers from May 10th.

Who’s the bigger style icon in the Rolling Stones, Keith Richards or Charlie Watt?

By admin on April 24th, 2008

Rolling Stones rocker Keith Richards may have recently fronted a major ad campaign for luxury label Louis Vuitton (and worn drainpipe jeans waaay before Kate Moss ever did), but he’s still pretty puzzled as to how he became the band’s major fashion icon.

Keef says bandmate Charlie Watts has always been “the most stylish member” of the group while he himself took to wearing his mam’s clothes…

Sale Alert #2: Nanny State

By admin on April 24th, 2008

There’s no worse feeling than buying something at full price and then seeing it reduced weeks later. The only comparisons I can think of is being shot or wearing a 100% acrylic jumper. So if you bought these silver Nanny States a couple of weeks back then prepare to feel terrible, their whole site has just gone on sale.

The silver ones are now £40, the canvas brogues are £25 and the embossed trainers are £50. If you’ve been biding your time, then now’s the time to strike.

Tasselled loafers and madras at J Simons

By admin on April 23rd, 2008

MADRAS J SIMONS LONDON COVENT GARDEN.jpgAfter reading Dave Walker from Modculture’s comment on my tassel loafers post I had a look a the J.Simons website and what a treat it is! You really get a feel for his commitment to style and passion, and John himself has some really great stories from his youth:

“At 23, ambition started to creep in. We began copying American clothes, getting little old ladies to make them up for us. Next to the Hackney Empire we opened a shop and called it Clothesville. We’d take things like the Burberry raincoat and give it a twist, do it in corduroy.”

John went on to open The Ivy Shop in ’65 selling American clothing to young mods.

Blood, Sweat and T-shirts review

By admin on April 23rd, 2008

blood sweat and tshirts.jpg The premise of ‘Blood, Sweat and T-shirts‘ is simple; get six fashion fanatics – who all seem to be doing their hardest to be unlikeable – send them off to a sweatshop and see how they cope. Do they crumble or do they start sewing 1000 garments a minute with one hand tied behind their back?
