Someone in the lingerie trade must be pulling major PR strings. Just when we had got to grips with Lily and Gemma on the cover of i-D, we now have Rachel Bilson in American GQ. The ex-OC starlet is publicizing her new action film, Jumper, and talks about her own life, a childhood car crash and jumps on the celebrity bandwagon of adding her two pence to the Britney Spears debate (Bilson personally thinks we should all leave her alone.) In the accompanying interview and Ellen Von Unwerth-shot editorial, Bilson proves herself to be a confident and re-invented actress amidst a sea of young starlets threatening to steal her American-sweetheart crown. Not that she wanted it anyway.

I came up with the term ‘living end’ a few years ago to describe people like Henry Conway and I’ve still not yet decided whether its complimentary or not. Either way Henry Conway is a living end to the death, he’s hit the headlines recently after a scandal involving his MP father paying him a researcher’s wage for er, presumably nothing more than being his son.

The world and his brother are talking about it and we at Brandish can’t be left out: congratulations go to Kim Jones who has been given the job of Creative Director for Dunhill.
It is a surprising appointment – the darling of men’s sportswear teaming up with a traditional menswear label – but a very shrewd one. Dunhill have been trying to revitalise their brand since 2005 when Richard James was brought in, but Kim will definitely bring a breath of fresh air to the label. No one does colour quite like Kimmy and his soft-edged boy-next-door masculinity is such a strong aesthetic it will help to set Dunhill apart from their rivals.
The only bad part of the news is that the Kim Jones label will take a break so Kim can concentrate on Dunhill. Boo!

In his final round up from Milan Menswear Fashion Week, Philip Start of Start Boutique, who has been keeping a diary of his activities exclusively for Brandish, gives us his third update:
The Costume National show wasn’t Phillip’s cup of tea: ‘it was very Italian, lots of buckles which wasn’t to my taste, but it was fairly nice nonetheless.’ On Mario Matteo, Phillip revealed that it’s a brand they’re going to be stocking exclusively at Start. ‘It’s great, very pared down and casual, but still retains a sense of elegance,’ he said.
Two more brands that will be new to Start, include Analogue Underground, a label created by a British designer living in Paris and Annapurna, an exciting label who do great cashmere. So expect these new brands to hit store soon!

It’s hard to criticise Kris van Assche. He’s got such a likable wee face and he seems like a sincere intelligent bloke, as you can see from this interview with Suzy Menkes, the grande dame of fashion journalism. Gotta love Suzy. Her interview style swings between mumsy and slightly creepy and they both seem horribly embarrassed by the size of Suzy’s boom-mike. Don’t look at it Suzy!

The latest issue of i-D magazine is dedicated entirely to men, as you would guess from the rather provocative cover image.
Gemma Ward and Lily Donaldson take the cover with a photo by Emma Summerton and styled by Edward Enninful, a duo who have more than proved themselves when it comes to attention-grabbing images. The website description of this month’s issue starts with the line "Grow your stubble, flex your muscles and open doors for the ladies.

In his second diary update Philip Start spent yesterday at the Milan Menswear shows and sent us an update:
After an exhausting few days Jil Sander was the only show Philip had time to go to and he liked what he saw: ‘there was a very nice classic element, I spotted a great aubergine suit and there were some fabulous premium leather pieces. I didn’t personally like the fashion element and there were a lot of printed fabrics which weren’t to my taste. They would have looked great mixed up with casualwear but our customer is a bit more classic than that.’ See after the jump for images from the show, or check out our pick of the blogs for Style Salvage’s review.

Pui-Tien Man writes…
This week, we’ve got men’s style covered from
head to toe… and, apparently, inside-out too. Paris has thrown up everything
from the sublime Ute Ploier’s ribcage-scarf (pictured, left) to Prada’s… interesting F/W
collection, featuring crop-tops and frilled miniskirts over shiny
skinnies. Has the
androgynous trend really crossed the gender divide?
Slick suits reign supreme on the catwalks, but for the modern urbanite, A Suitable Wardrobe looks for more suitable solutions for smart
travel wear.
Refinery29 puts a Spring in their step with a roundup of
next season’s coolest new footwear, while Men’s Flair
belts up for a review of their favourite smart basic accessories.
But if the holiday
season has left you out of pocket, look to your own cupboard: Style Salvage has been doing some salvaging of his own in his wardrobe, and unearthed some
treasures. Dig deep!

Hot on the heels of Jude Law for their clothing line, Dunhill have announced another celebrity ambassador in the form of Henry Cavill, who has become the face of their London fragrance.
Cavill has been dubbed the unluckiest man in Hollywood having narrowly missed out on the roles of Batman, Bond and Superman. Still only 24 he was considered too young for each role, so expect him to go stellar when he’s got a few more years behind him. He did manage to make it onto screen in The Tudors and I Capture the Castle.
Although not as starry as Jude, Cavill is the kind of man who is so ruggedly handsome he would make even the most heterosexual men amongst us want to curl up in his arms and be rocked gently to sleep.
Expect to see a whole lot more of him in the future. Good move Dunhill.

Philip Start has been in Paris at the menswear shows looking for new pieces for his London Boutique Start. He caught up with us and gave us the lowdown from the last few days:
Tranoï a small French retailer, had the best brands that didn’t have showrooms and some of the bigger names included Juun-J, U-ni-ty and Tillmann Lauterbach.
Philip went to the Dior show which he said was ‘a bit retro, all black skinny jeans and nothing new’. Ever since Hedi Slimane’s departure Dior has struggled to find a new style and Kris Van Aasche’s MC Hammer trousers weren’t impressing him: ‘My suspicion is that because he
didn’t invent skinny jeans he’s trying to make a mark but I’m not interested in
it’. Philip’s celebrity companion Brian Molko apparently wasn’t too impressed by the baggy trousers either.

Comme Des Garçons love plaid. That’s the
main lesson that can be learned from their Paris show. Other designers have put
in a couple of plaid pieces but Comme Des Garçons practically put it into every
piece they had on show. They would have hired Mel Gibson to come down and
reprise his role in Braveheart whilst wearing head to toe Comme Des Garçons
plaid if they could afford him. Or if Mel Gibson wasn’t an alcoholic anti-semitic.
