We featured Start Boutique on Catwalk Queen recently and we’re pleased to hear they are introducing even more ranges for men.
Their already established Made to Measure Tailoring service will be on offer as well as a ready made suit range at a brand new Mr. Start boutique opening in February. Two styles of suit will be offered in the range, a fashion style with slim lapels and shorter sleeves and a more classic style and will be available in a range of both traditional fabrics and more unusual blends. Mr. Start will be a dedicated tailoring store and is situated just next door to the current boutique. Prices range from £495 for an off the peg suit to £700 for made to measure.
The showcase comes on the eve of the publication of Hanlon’s pictorial book 1950s Jazz in London and Paris. The cost of this exhibition…free. A piece of jazz and style history…priceless.
Who needs the Golden Globes? Monday night saw the Critics’ Choice Awards which went ahead despite the writers’ strike. The boys were out in force and in style in their Sunday/ Monday best. What can we learn from the well-dressed?
Clooney as usual looked dapper. The Clooney brand is built on a well-groomed indifference and you’ll never see him in anything other than the classic tux, as befits a man his age. If the tie had been narrower and the waistband lower, he would have looked trendier and he would have looked like he gave a damn. Brad Pitt, takes a few more risks and his three piece tweed suit was more on trend with the slim cut trousers, sharp cut shoulders and er… three pieces. See after the jump for a picture of Hairspray’s Elijah Kelly with Amanda Bynes.
David Beckham’s outfit leaves a lot more to the imagination than his
recent underwear ad for Armani and I must say I quite like this look.
It’s very a formal outfit but the fitted proportions make it more
wearable and I love the silhouette it creates.
Some of my Shiny
colleagues were shocked by the tightness of the kecks but they’re so
well cut he can get away with it. His shirt sleeve garters are a nice detail and I love the high-cut waistcoat. It’s just a shame I can’t heap any praise on his wife’s ‘highlighter pen’ outfit. Click on the thumbnail to enlarge picture.
Annie Liebovitz has snapped Harrison Ford and Shia LaBoeuf for the cover of the latest issue of Vanity Fair. The shoot was in honour of the latest Indiana Jones film called ‘Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’. The film is set in the ’50s; Ford and LaBoeuf star alongside Cate Blanchett playing a fearsome but hot Russian agent. The film has strived to keep the same aesthetic as previous Indiana Jones films, director Steven Spielberg told Vanity Fair: "We went right back to the
blazing Technicolor style of the first three installments. … I didn’t
want to update Indiana Jones to the 1950s beyond hair, makeup, costumes
and cars. I wanted it to look very similar to the first three pictures.
I never wanted to get away from the B-movie, pulp feeling of the entire
cliffhangers era of the ’40s and ’50s, the old Republic serials."
Prada, as hintmag reports, have launched an online store. The store only sells Prada accessories, which are typically whimsical and well, expensive.
Witness these key chains. Mildly amusing for all of 5 minutes (max) but you’ll pay £70 for the privilege. Still, everyone will know that it’s Prada, which is something. Not 70 quid’s worth of something, but something.
To be fair, there’s some nice stuff. Their leather goods are particularly fine, especially the wallet and key holder which come in a cobalt blue and what Prada call bluette (which for me is a wasted opportunity to use the word ‘cerulean’).
Other treats include a tape measure and a set square and a dozen other kinds of nonsense. Check it out here.
Rihanna, Timbaland and Brandish favourite, designer Henrk Vinskov are amongst the artists who have collaborated with H&M and Designers Against AIDS on a new collection of T-shirts and tops aimed at raising awareness of AIDS amongst 15-24 year olds.
I only hope we’re not getting fatigued with all these charity initiatives as some of the facts that this initiative is highlighting are quite galling and deserve attention: 50% of new infections are amongst 15-24 year olds; 12 million young people now carry the HIV virus; and every 15 seconds, a young person is infected. As Henrik’s T-shirt states: “Be Aware – It’s still happening”.
The collection launches in February and is good and cheap as you’d expect form H&M (£7.99 – £19.99). 25% of the profits go to helping prevent HIV infection around the world.

According to the rumours via DNR, Hedi Slimane is in talks with his old backer, Bernard Arnault, about launching a brand new collection under his own name. Monsieur Arnault is chair of Dior and LVMH, which owns Fendi, Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton amongst others. He is also 7th richest man in the world so he’s a good bloke to be having a business lunch with.
Well, he doesn’t so much hit 40 so much as knock it down and reverse back over it a few times. What in God’s name is he wearing?
I hope there was some sort of pimps and hos theme to Jamie Foxx’s 40th birthday in Miami, otherwise there’s some serious crimes being committed here and I don’t mean lewd conduct, although that was probably happening too. The Foxx looks truly horrendous. There’s really no respite for the eyes in that outfit. Everything looks so cheap, as if it came out of a Christmas cracker.
This is the problem with the holiday season: fancy dress. Don’t do it people. Or if you must, make sure you look amazing. If you’re going to dress fancy, then dress fancy. There’s no excuse for cheap white trousers and black shoes. Ever!
God I hate Jamie Foxx.
Dark, dramatic and
ever-so slightly threatening, this month’s Dazed & Confused cover is sure
to stand out on the shelves. Joaquin Phoenix plays cover model and with the
creative Midas-touch of new creative director Nicola Formichetti, the New Year
looks set to start with a fashion-friendly bang. Inside, we have a photographic
portfolio featuring work by Terry Richardson, Oliviero Toscani and others as well as an editorial shot by Matt
Irwin. The theme of both is ‘Nostalgia,’ a trend echoed across the magazine
rack at the moment and seen in W magazine’s new Hilary Swank cover which, with
its paper-thin slip dress and grunge-like simplicity, is 90s-inspired.

I’m not going to make any jokes about balls but it does seem that David Beckham has had a bit of a helping hand in his first advert as the face of Armani underwear. Beckham said: "I first met Mr Armani quite a few years ago while I was working
with the England team when he designed our World Cup suit. I’ve
been a big fan of his style for a long time and, through the years, my
wife and I have become friends with him, so I’m happy to be working
with him now." I like the way he calls him ‘Mr Armani’, I can almost imagine his wee voice saying it! Beckham has been paid a reported £20 million for the deal, replacing similarly large-panted Freddie Ljungberg.
DNR are reporting on Mulberry’s new menswear store in London’s Covent Garden, which I happened across this week-end. The store is the first of its kind but is apparently a test case for future expansion in menswear. Inside, it eschews the typical Mulberry store interiors of dark wood panelling and stately home styling in favour of a more minimalist and masculine look.
They will carry all of Mulberry’s range of men’s bags and accessories including the Bob bag, designed by Bob Geldoff and available on a pre-order basis only. Bob is a loyal Mulberry customer and the bag was apparently all Bob’s idea. I don’t mean to be rude about our saviour Saint Bob, but I’ve never admired his style. Perhaps Mulberry felt like they couldn’t say no.
Anyway, its exciting to know that Mulberry are taking the menswear market seriously and are committing some serious time and dosh to it. Go Mulberry. [Pic via mens.style]
