Tom Ford on Gucci, his new store and vaginas

By ShinyMedia on June 13th, 2007

TomfordTom Ford explained his feeling about his departure from Gucci in recent interview: "My life at Gucci was like being married, having two kids, and living in a house you’ve built. Then you come home one day, the door’s locked, and your wife is in there fucking someone else." Ford and company CEO Domenico de Sole left Gucci after disagreeing with new PPR bosses over creative control of the Group.
Ford seems fully commited to his menswear store for the time being
saying he built it for "all the guys I know, all my friends, who can’t fucking find anything to wear" and chose a unique startpoint for the store’s lavish design "I thought the men’s store had to be designed around a vagina"!

Monkey magazine

By admin on June 13th, 2007

FHM? Pah! Maxim? Old hat! Loaded? Used to be funny, not anymore. What the hell happened to lad’s mags? Well it’s the price for one. Up to £4 per month for a subscription to read the poor articulations of a bunch of jaded, old hacks. And don’t get me started on the likes of Zoo or Nuts. Not worth the bloody paper I say…

So it’s great to see Monkey arrive, an entirely web based – and free, might I add – journal that recalls the heyday of men’s lifestyle magazines. Incidentally, Monkey mag was conceived by the good people at Dennis Publishing, the same house that brought us the likes of Maxim and Viz – two ‘zines well past their sell by dates. So what’s Monkey all about? See after the jump.

M&S iPod suit

By ShinyMedia on June 8th, 2007

m%26ssuit.jpg Male? All ‘podded up in your DRM-’goodness’? Still continue to believe Marks & Spencer is the acme of fashion?

There may be a way for you to combine your love of Steve Jobs’s love-muscle (the iPod, sordid-imagination-in-overdrive) and M&S’s cutting-edge (for librarians) fashion, with their new £149 wool and lycra suit. The specially-designed Elektex fabric turns the inner lapel into a five button control centre for your iPod, so you’re able to repeat those Simply Red tracks with even more ease than ever.

At a ridiculously-low price of £90 for the classic-black pinstripe jacket, and matching trousers being £59, you can now embarrass your girlfriend even more than ever. Next: M&S will design a suit with built-in speakers, so you can blare Holding Back The Years to really piss her off.

Swenkas: bringing dandy back

By Isabelle on June 4th, 2007

Ever heard of swanking? Well if you’re a dapper black man from South Africa you might leave your family on a Saturday night and head off to a fashion show with other Swenkas where your attire will be judged and if you’re lucky you might win a prize. Prizes range from blackets, watches and cows but are usually a small cash sum. Swenkas usually live on meagre sums, buying their suits in installments, proving that money is never an obstacle to looking good. An inspiration to all those currently in tracksuit bottoms!

Royal College of Art Menswear shows

By Isabelle on May 29th, 2007

The Royal College of Art signalled the start of the student fashion
season yesterday with its annual graduate fashion show. Thirty-five
postgraduates got their chance to showcase their final collections
which culminated in a eye-popping and imaginative catwalk presentation
incorporating every fabric and form of material you can think of.

The futuristic theme ran distinctly through every collection with students predicting that one day we may be forced to
use other materials such as rubber and plastic to clothe ourselves.

Arctic Monkeys

By Isabelle on May 25th, 2007

In a recent interview Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders jokingly suggested he’d like to collaborate with one half of Gnarls Barkley on a fashion line. "Danger Mouse was interested in collaborating with us [Arctic Monkeys] on the new album," he said. "He wanted to meet but we never ended up getting together. I want to discuss starting a fashion label with him." Danger Mouse already has a clothes range for Sumpremebeing, so maybe this could turn into a serious venture?

Dead icons for Doc Marten

By Isabelle on May 24th, 2007

Doc Marten have decided to honour the longevity of their shoes by coming up with a new ad campaign showing some of famous Dr. Marten wearers. The one thing these musicians have in common, is they’re all dead and departed. The dead stars, Kurt Cobain, Sid Vicious, Joey Ramone and Joe Strummer

(above), are all depicted sitting in heaven wearing their particular trademark Dr. Marten boot. This comes after Yohji Yamamoto announced he was designing a range of docs, and at the last round of fashion shows many models graced the catwalks in stomping DMs.

Ewan McGregor loves AussieBum, not Wonderjock

By Isabelle on May 23rd, 2007

EwanaussieEwan McGregor has hit the news recently thanks to his love of AussieBum pants, the brand that includes Wonderjock, the undercrackers that emphasise your assets. A substantial order of the pants lead to a credit check which prompted the news story but Ewan’s people were quick to deny the story: "AussieBum has written an apology to us over it, it is not true at all," said a spokesperson.
Seems like they’re getting their knickers in a twist over nothing as it’s fairly common knowledge that Ewan is pretty well endowed. "He’s a fan of the brand generally and has bought several different items from the range but certainly not the Wonderjock" they added. Surely as he’s been happily married for over a decade, it doesn’t make any difference whether he enhances his "area" or not?

By ShinyMedia on May 21st, 2007

MarcjacobsMarc Jacobs has postponed his first formal menswear show due to venue issues. back in March Robert Duffy, Jacobs’ business partner said “Marc’s new men’s line is going to show in Milan. The clothes are made there, so it’s just easy.” Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, who take care of the shows organisation did not include his collection in their schedule of events. By ShinyMedia on May 11th, 2007

A recent study by the Luxury Institute revealed that when it comes to buying bags wealthy men are much more label conscious than their female counterparts.
The Luxury Institute focuses on the top 10% of America wealthy and found that men opted for designer labels 73% of the time compared to wealthy women, who went for the label 50% of the time. The most fabulous manbag I could find is this Dior confection which will set you back $1585 from e Luxury and yes it really is for men!

Tom Bihn french washing instructions

By Isabelle on May 10th, 2007

LabelThis is quite an old story, but a good one. Tom Bihn, a US bag manufacturer inserted an short message about the president in their French washing instructions which translates as: "We are sorry our president is an idiot. We didn’t vote for him." Despite the company’s unwillingness to reveal who was behind the stunt and weak explanation that the label was in fact about CEO Tom BIhn they released a t-shirt with said washing instructions which raised money for the Seattle Vet Centre.

McFly Nike Trainers

By Isabelle on April 26th, 2007

An online petition to make the trainers from Back to the Future 2 available for the masses is underway at McFly 2015. The self-lacing trainers have acquired mythical status, with a strong fanbase clamouring for their commercial production. I’ve managed to find a clip of the scene and to be honest they look a bit stupid, but if you’re a massive fan fulfill your destiny and sign the petition.

It’s available from May for about $30, and you can pay an extra few bucks to make sure the boxes arrive in pristine condition for all you collecting freaks out there.
