I like a good belt, me. From a thin braided offering to a chunky biker buckle, they’re my proffered gravity-defying trouser accessory. But as the years pile up, and the pounds pile on, my paunch is finding itself more and more at odds with my waistline adornments. So what are my other options? I’d rather walk about in my underpants than wear …
Winter is often a season of necessity versus beauty. Unless one has enough in his wallet to buy a piece like this Alexander McQueen (a cool £1,095,) fashionistos are left to settle for cheap and not always stylish alternatives. The gilet (or body-warmer) is a fickle fashion item and this season it has been made-up in enticing chambray by label Wings + Horns.
Gilets often look awful; after all, the Michelin Man-look has never suited anyone. However, when worn over-sized and unzipped with skinny jeans and leather brogues, your padded-tube of fabric becomes the key component of a high-fashion look.
I would say ‘Yay’ to the idea of a gilet- simply follow Brandish’s style advice and you’ll be looking awesome anyway!
Giles Deacon for New Look, one of the few designer X high street collaborations for men returns next week with another collection, featuring a selection of shirts, t-shirts, jeans and knits.
We like that the New Look collections are a chance to see Deacon’s lighter take on fashion with witty t-shirt prints and bright colours. Hopefully we’ll see see pieces which push boundaries a little more in future collections but as always it’s baby steps for menswear.
The Clothes Show kicked off today and over at CQ we were left wondering what Katie Price had in mind for her equestrian bikini.
There’s no doubt Brad Pitt cut a dash in Cannes yesterday as he posed for the Inglorious Basterds photocall. His pale pink suit, white shirt and grey scarf is an artful colour combination that has already got my mind working.
In the aftermath of the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute Gala, fashionistos/as across the world have been gorging over that turban, Madonna’s wackiness, Rihanna’s brilliant tux and Naomi’s beautiful boycott. However, it emerged today that off the red carpet a fight was on and statements are being made across the fashion universe in response to reports that Proenza Schouler’s Jack McCullough was headbutt by 24’s Keifer Sutherland after McCullough supposedly knocked Brooke Shields over.
Mickey Boardman is the infamous columnist at Paper magazine as well as a social butterfly and fashion extraordinaire. He is also the proud owner of a rather distinctive and intriguing look.
There was a time when it seemed like Russell Brand could have been a saviour of men’s fashion. His Dickensian witticisms and gothic-lite get up were a breath of fresh air, but lately Brand has let things slide a little. His favourite ruched leggings leave very little to the imagination, and teaming them with flip flops? Rookie mistake!
Matthew Horne was snapped outside the afterparty for the Teenage Cancer Trust in London last night looking a little sheepish after he left his wallet containing £1,500 and all his cards in a taxi.
Most people use the date the clocks go back as the official start of Spring but at Brandish we pay attention to altogether more stylish markers.
At a disco the other night, the theme was ‘City vs. Country’ and stuck for ideas, a friend and I decided to go as tacky tourists. Cue vintage novelty braces, high-waisted denim shorts and charity shop shirts.
My charity shop bum-bag has been the focus of much attention.
For me, the Sartorialist is often ‘Hail or Fail’ in that sometimes I want to literally hunt down the people in his photographs to steal their outfits and sometimes I just want to hunt them down and …hurt them? Anyways, I can’t decided with the photo to the left. While I love the proportion play of the trench and tight, knit waistcoat and the relatively baggy trousers tucked into the boots, I’m not as convinced by the Autumnal colour scheme.
As we move to New York with our menswear coverage, the entire Brandish team has begun searching the shows for particular looks, gossip and moments that have caught our attention. And if there is one designer who has so far got people talking, it would have to be Duckie Brown. This label, designed by Steven Cox and Daniel Silver, has been trend-setting in previous seasons and over the last eight years it has definitely become one to watch for editors and writers alike.
So, with that said, what do you think of the label’s latest headwear designs. Loud, outrageous and not just a bit odd, would you be willing to rock this monumental millinery?
Men.Style have just posted this hilarious video of self-confessed ‘Lo-Head’ rapper, 88-Keys.
It’s less than two weeks to the day which, depending on your opinion, is either a way to express your romantic side or a pointless greetings card fest.
We’re busy planning gift ideas on Catwalk Queen which will come in useful if you have a girlfriend, but what will you be up to if you are single, cynical, or have a boyfriend?

Kanye West revealed his astonishing haircut recently on a TV performance to celebrate Barack Obama’s inauguration.
The Burberry Prorsum A/W 2009 show has been going down a storm on the Internet with buyers and fashion critics air-kissing in delighted agreement as they plan their wardrobes for seasons to come (guilty as charged.) Apart from the amazing padded jackets and sharp tailoring, one of the things that has most caught my attention is the subtle return of the infamous check print. The beige tartan-esque print has, in recent years, become a taboo of the fashion industry but designer Christopher Bailey appears to have decided that the time has come for a major return.
What do you think- are you ready to show-off the check print? Vote in our poll after the jump!
This season of Celebrity Big Brother (CBB) has been very eventful and a glittering line-up including LaToya Jackson, Verne Troyer and Coolio means that each day is not without a bit of frock horror. Coolio has been catching my attention recently with his various looks. While his personality and jokes are fantastic, I can’t say I am a fan of his headwear or customised (by which I mean studded, embellished and gem-covered) jackets!
What do you think? Vote in our poll after the jump.
We’re going to be bringing you a gift idea a day, but what else would you like to see on Brandish this Christmas? We’ve got a few things up our sleeves but take our poll and let us know what decorates your Christmas tree!
