Thom Browne’s signature look of shrunken suit, sports socks and loafers has cemented him as a style icon for both sexes and his shows have even inspired my own trend reports. Now, Style.com has talked to him about his exercise regime (although running daily on tracks including Central Park, the Eiffel Tower and the Imperial Gardens of Japan are a luxury rather inaccessible to us hoi polloi.) But I really must warn you that the vid may leave you feeling slightly inferior- after all how many of us can claim to have completed 15 marathons worldwide and still be running in Thom Browne knitwear?

“You were on my mind at least nine tenths of yesterday, it seemed as if perhaps I’d gone insane. What is it about you that has commandeered my brain? Maybe it’s your…” Kimya Dawson’s brilliant lyrics ring through my head as I realise that it appears I have nothing better to do on a Saturday night than listen to the Juno soundtrack (heads up my friends, it’s great) and appear pensive and philosophical while typing away at my laptop. That is until you know what is causing me so much mental frustration- I am deciding upon my ‘theory’ (as named by Jason and furthered by Isabelle) regarding the devious short shorts trend.
Short shorts were a feature of last season’s shows and where better to take lead from than the trend-barometer that is the Marc by Marc Jacobs collection (right.) I was quite comfortably on the fence until I received a peculiar delivery from a well-intentioned but elderly great-uncle.

I cycle everywhere – it’s by far the quickest option within central London and with the magnificent Congestion Charge, it’s actually quite safe (touch wood). The perennial problem for a cyclist is what to wear. And I’m not talking about practical condsiderations here, I’m talking about style. Obviously, you are limited as to what you can wear on a bike, but does all cycle wear have to be so depressingly utilitarian? Are we to have no pleasure? Are we not allowed to look good when we cycle?
In this grim landscape ENO’s ‘Windriders’ come as a bit of a revelation. Designer Gjis Bakker has taken the humble cycle clip, previously only seen on vicars, injected a bit of style and humour and created this stylish must-have. See lycra short designers, this is how you do it. Available from Collette.

This baby is just break-your-heart cool, the kind of classy cool that makes me want to go skateboarding with a copy of something by Sartre in my pocket. They are essentially rip-offs of the Nike windbreakers, and yet somehow they look like they’re the real deal. Like the Nike versions are just crude and inferior copies which is quite a feat because the Nike ones came first.
I think it’s partly that the colours used are much bolder and sophisticated. Also, I’ve had my hands on them and the fabric is soft and has a great drape to it. Perhaps its just the name that’s done it – Reine et Roi is actually a limited edition line from New York based shop and label, Classic Kicks and not French at all. This is how they suck you in, those crafty Americans…
Go get ‘em.

After finding the many ways to tie a shoelace I kind of feel like I’ve been missing out on something important. Sneaker Freaker have illustrated shoelace aficionado Ian Fieggen’s lacing techniques for our education. With names like ‘The Bushwalk’ and ‘The Zipper’ sounding like more like a dance than something to do with shoelaces and with fifteen different styles to choose from lacing your trainers will never be the same. My favourite is the delightfully decorative Lattice, and I think my least favourite is the the Footbag. It sounds like an insult and looks like rubbish; I’m sure it’s good for people with unusually wide toes though.
