“I’m Burial and so’s my wife, etc”

By admin on August 8th, 2008

burial_t-shirts.jpg
From the gilded mouth of our My Chemical Toilet Editor, Stuart:

Are you ga-ga over Burial‘s album?

Are you? Really? Or do you feel you have to say that because loads of chinstrokers have? I have to admit I found the album dull. Maybe you need to listen to it on a night bus going through south London at 4am or something to really get into its dubstep vibe. I only travel by limo, so I don’t know if I’ll ever really “get it”.

For those who have bought into the Burial cult, though, these high-larious t-shirts will allow you to show that a) you’ve heard of him; b) you have “a sense of humour”; c) you are keen to let the world know these two facts through the medium of clothing.

Kind of a shame he appears to have just outed himself, then, although that is not confirmed at the time of writing and so on and so forth. See more Burial-related reasons to spunk money up the wall at I Am Burial

Puma X Gumball 3000

By Jonathan Smith on August 6th, 2008

puma-gumball3000-tshirts-1.jpg

If you have never heard of The Gumball 3000 then clearly you need to pay more attention to the lifestyles of the rich and famous. The Gumball is a 3000 mile annual road rally frequented by only the richest of the rich who can afford to write off their Lamborghini and pay £60,000 for the privilege.

The road race was started in 1999 by Maximillion Cooper with the premise of raising enough money to fund his own Formula 1 race team. Nine years on and the race team never materialised, however The Gumball has become a brand name in itself pulling major sponsors from around the world.

Pledge your love for Obama with the Barack Me Obamadeus t-shirt

By admin on July 30th, 2008

barack me obamadeus.jpg
I’m not sure which came first, the XKCD cartoon or the t-shirt but either way I love it. You can buy the t-shirt for the bargain price of $25 in the US, but UK shipping might make it a little more. Nevertheless it’s a cheap way of declaring Obama-love, especially if you haven’t got US voting rights.

Barack Obama is one of the most stylish presidential candidates we’ve seen but his powdered wig and frock coat is an entirely new look. Should he make it to the Oval Office the wig would make a great addition to the presidential wardrobe dontcha think?

WISHLIST: Henry Holland ‘Lives not Knives’ T-shirt

By Will Reid on July 28th, 2008

livesnotknives.jpgKnife crime has reached an unbelievable height in Britain and with the murder of Ben Kinsella, the seventeenth teenager to die as a result of knife crime in London this year, Grazia has launched their ‘Lives for Knives’ campaign. As part of the campaign, the magazine has got Henry Holland, Katharine Hamnett and Sophia Kokosalaki on board to design t-shirts as well as laying a set of Five Government Demands.

On my WISHLIST is Henry Holland’s design, an electric-blue t-shirt with striking design and bold lettering. One size fits all and all proceeds go to the Ben Kinsella Foundation, a charity set up for the prevention of future knife-crime. I couldn’t think of a more worthy summer buy.

T-shirt, Exclusively at Matches, £36

Expose your inner dandy with this Unity shirt

By admin on July 24th, 2008

unityshirt.jpgDandies are back in fashion (according to Mens Flair/L’Uomo Vogue). If you’re getting weary of your wardrobe why not add some eye catching accessories? If you’re looking for ways to jazz up your shirts, you could start with a neck tie. Or better yet, just get a shirt with a matching neck tie, like this Unity striped shirt.

Call me crazy, but I think this would look great in the workplace. Obviously not in the power meeting with the CEO, but any other day is fine. Sure, you might get heckled slightly for using some blue sky thinking to step outside the box but it’ll be worth it.

Checkbreak: Vintage faded Hawaiian shirt

By admin on July 24th, 2008

ono hawaiian shirt checkbreak shirt vintage print.jpgAt the Arcadia Christmas press day yesterday I was reminded that flannel/check/plaid is going to be huge this autumn, both Burton and Topman had lumberjack-style shirts in their collections.

As much as we’ve been plugging madras on Brandish maybe it’s time to take a checkbreak for a month or two so you don’t get too bored of the trend.

Printed and patterned shirts look cool in the summer and the vintage Ono Hawaiian shirt from Rusty Zipper will see you into the cooler months teamed with a sharp blazer. the faded print is eyecatching without being too gaudy and will look great teamed with black or grey suit trousers or for a more casual look a pair of bright straight-leg jeans.

cosmic wonder check shirt tuxedo.jpg
Combining manly checks with a feminine pink tuxedo ruffle is obviously a recipe for success for Cosmic Wonder whose Wood shirt is sold out in every size but large.
If you fit a large then you’re doubly in luck as the shirt is reduced from £235 to £117.50 at b Store. Team it with the simplest grey trousers and cardigan for a quirky work outfit or with jeans for a Brokeback Mountain pastiche.

Playboy’s Rock the Rabbit campaign

By admin on July 10th, 2008

playboyshirts.jpg(L-R: Hot Chip, Iggy Pop, The Little Ones)

I can’t say I’ve ever thought of looking at Playboy for clothing, but this Rock the Rabbit campaign is slowly changing my mind. In their second year they’ve roped established musicians like Iggy Pop, Daft Punk and Duran Duran amongst relative up and comers like Hot Chip and Tokyo Police Club.

The stand out of this collection is the Iggy Pop shirt which features a portrait of him with bunny ears. The close runners up are by The Little Ones and Hot Chip. You can buy a selection of these from Playboy’s site for £20.

The Hype Machine T-shirts

By admin on July 10th, 2008

hype_machine_t-shirts.gifAre music website t-shirts the new band t-shirts? Well, let’s hope not – but I have to admit I’ve already shelled out for one of the t-shirts being flogged by uber music aggregator The Hype Machine.

For the uninitiated, this is the site that has revolutionised the way I – and a hell of a lot of other people – have discovered and listened to music over the last year or two.

The shirts are going for a very reasonable $20 (plus delivery charges), and are available from The Hype Machine’s merchandise page.

Fred Perry Fall/Winter 09

By admin on July 9th, 2008

fpfw08.jpgWe have a love/hate relationship with Fred Perry at Brandish. On the one hand, it’s an iconic British label with a rich cultural history. On the other, it pumps out a never-ending stream of collaborations and ill-thought out releases, inexplicably diluting the brand.

With another season comes another hit and miss collection of polos. Some of F/W ’09 has already hit Japanese stores, ranging from a mod-roots tie/shirt combo, to a rubbish bleach-job effort. Pics after the jump.
