The Sartorialist shoots André Benjamin in Florence

By admin on August 11th, 2008

andre benjamin the sartorialist pitti uomo.jpgScott Schuman had a starstruck moment recently when he snapped André Benjamin outside a shop on the last day of Pitti Uomo.

Apparently the Outkast singer is a big fan of the site and it’s no small wonder considering Benjamin’s interest in menswear and his clothing line Benjamin Bixby. Looking good in a simple ensemble of battered sunhat, white shirt and yellow trousers Benjamin is a picture of easy summer chic. Note the watch with striped bracelet which gives the outfit a bit of interest.

Jeremy Scott tyre print jogging bottoms

By admin on August 7th, 2008

jeremy scott pyjama tyre print jogging bottoms twosee.jpgPyjama style pants were a big trend on the menswear catwalks and are set to break onto the high street next summer.

Be one step ahead and snap up Jeremy Scott’s jogging bottoms at TwoSee, the tyre print is reminiscent of the ikat prints we’ve seen all over the high street and they’re reduced from £205 to £153.75. The voluminous shape dictates a pairing with a fine-knit slim tee so that you don’t look swamped. Add some white canvas pumps to give you an edgy but simple summer outfit.

Luca Rubinacci in lavender and mustard

By admin on August 6th, 2008

luca rabinucci sartorialist scott schuman.jpgThe Sartorialist snapped Luca Rubinacci, son of Italian tailor Mariano Rubbinaci looking resplendent in a tricky combination of lavender and mustard.

His white jeans add freshness to the look and note the pale stripe shirt, which stops the outfit from looking too blocky. I like the quirky touch of a few (Indian ?) bangles and I can never overlook a pair of tasselled loafers.

After the jump I’ve picked out a few lavender and mustard items to get the look, and a great A.P.C shirt to tone it all down.

Folk Drawstring Cardigan/Corset

By admin on August 6th, 2008

folk0028navyM1.jpgWith tights and make up all seemingly now accepted male staples, why not corsets? That’s what Folk have sneaked into the mainstream with this drawstring cardigan. Initially I thought the most interesting part of this cardigan was the contrasting squares on the neckline creating a lapel-like effect. A look closer revealed something much more interesting, are corsets in for men?

Seeing as there’s now massage cream that claims to give you a six pack, why wouldn’t a man take this easy route to a V shaped physique? It beats spending £27 on cream that can supposedly do crunches for you whilst lowering your body fat. Take this quick fix at Oki-Ni for £115.

Esser’s Headlock video is your fashion homework

By admin on August 5th, 2008

Not only is ex-Ladyfuzz Ben Esser‘s latest release the most unbelievably catchy song you’ll hear this side of summer but the video for ‘Headlock’ is as we say in fashion parlance ‘bang on trend’. The early ’80s look has been bubbling under for a good while now and it sort of crystallised with the release of Shane Meadows’ ‘This is England’. Loafers are a must, and although I’d say Esser’s turn-ups are a little off he has the rudeboy look down pat. Back to the music, Headlock was released this week and is available on free download from Esser’s MySpace.

Retailers struggle to keep up with demand for male leggings

By admin on August 4th, 2008

mentights.jpgMen are the new women. It’s a debate that’s been swirling around for most of the 21st century. As if Alexander McQueen’s mankini and last week’s guyliner/manscara affair weren’t enough of a devastating blow to defenders of manliness everywhere, along comes news of the next big trend…

Sales of men’s tights are through the roof.

Forget flip flops, spend the rest of the summer in sandals

By admin on July 30th, 2008

flip flop picture o'brien gq.jpgPopsugar reports that GQ writer Glenn O’Brien is not down with flip flops and I’m inclined to agree. They’re great for the beach but for work or social occasions flip flops are just a little too studenty. Unless you’re applying to appear on CH4′s Shipwrecked they shouldn’t really be part of your day-to-day wardrobe.

O’Brien says: “Flip-flops are for the beach or maybe for washing the car or spaniel. They are not the next big thing. They are the last sad thing on the road to stylistic surrender.” Worst of all are the ‘sporty’ or dress flip flop with rugged all-terrain stylings (left), they should never be worn. See after the jump for my pick of the best sandals so you’ll never have to resort to flip flops again.

Love The Look: Ewan’s Down With Love

By Will Reid on July 29th, 2008

ewandownlove.jpgEwan McGregor, Brandish fave and actor extraordinaire, has made it as this week’s ‘Love The Look’ style icon. While not actually a look he created himself, McGregor’s get-ups in the film ‘Down With Love’ were unbelievable. Mod suits, a Rat Pack-slick haircut, patent shoes and exotic skins; the look was one of excitement and interesting times. As the love story blossomed, each event was painted with the brilliant sartorial brush of McGregor’s dapper-dandy. Who cares if the actual film was rubbish?

Fred Perry x Tomoki Sukezanne

By admin on July 29th, 2008

fredperryx.jpg
As the old saying goes, ‘another day, another Fred Perry collaboration’. This time with Tomoki Sukezane. It does make a mockery of the whole ‘Fred Perry is for fans of style not fashion’ stance though, as the company are clearly using collaborations as a means to follow trends.

Cynical nit picking aside, this collaboration is right on trend for autumn with the chunky knits and preppy stylings. The knits are made from a cotton and cashmere blend and are available in the four colours above. As it is a Japan based collaboration, I’m not sure when they’ll be available to Europe or America but when news appears, we’ll let you know.

Because The Tan Isn’t Bad Enough; Cristiano Ronaldo Does Silver Short-Shorts!

By Will Reid on July 24th, 2008

ronaldo(2).jpgWay back when (honestly Cristiano,) at the peak of the short-shorts trend, Brandish was rife with talk of Wham!, a model short-shorts wearer and metallic fabric. In an awfully weird way, Cristiano Ronaldo looks like a mixture of about three weeks worth of posts.

In case you haven’t already been blinded my that horrific pic to the left, I’m talking about this week’s latest fashion crime: those tight, silver short-shorts. Ronaldo was snapped while shopping at the Christian Audigier boutique in Beverly Hills, perfectly tangoed and crutch-ridden. Unlike that signature white suit, I can’t even bring myself to jokily utter that infamous question- Yay or Nay?

Street style picks: smart silhouettes and the alternative to the tie

One of the few pictures from the Sartorialist’s London visit has surfaced and it’s a wonderful piece of British nostalgia. The tasselled loafers look great with the mustard top and oxblood bag, like the commenters I’m not so sure about the fit of the jeans but I think we can let him off!

Love The Look- Bruce Almighty Gangster Does Religion with Kane (But No Abel)

By Will Reid on July 18th, 2008

bruce almighty christopher kane.jpgI was recently watching Bruce Almighty and during the infamous Monkey-Butt scene (I try to be a serious journalist,) I was struck with the cold slap of sartorial envy.

Okay, maybe not envy but definite recognition. The Gangsta friend was wearing a torn denim waistcoat and high-waisted trousers similar to not only Christopher Kane’s show of last season but to the Gisele editorial of V54.

Check the image and appreciate how unbelievably on trend this man is!

Outfit pick: Sartorialist-style summer shorts

By admin on July 17th, 2008

sartorialist short suit sports jacket.jpg
The Sartorialist isn’t convinced by shorts suits, but his images of sports jackets worn with shorts does indeed work well for the summer months. If you’re not sold on the idea of a shorts suit but want to look smart this summer see after the jump for my outfit pick which team madras with a pale chambray check and sturdy leather plimsolls. Clubmaster-style sunnies add a dose of bookish retro and the jacket finishes of the smart look.

Danish designer Kaspar Harup-Hansen is the latest addition to the Topman Lens roster of designers which includes names like Dexter Wong and Carolyn Massey. Topman’s Design Director Gordon Richardson says: “I have admired Kaspar’s use of Japanese fashion combined with Copenhagen street inspiration. He uses twisted well known classics, with special processing and exquisite detailing.” I like the subtle play on silhouette using familiar items like shirts and hoodies.

b Store’s Matthew Murphy helped Richardson pick the designers for the collection, which will be available from 14th September. See after the jump for the rest of the designers.

Spotted: Drop crotch trousers in Italy

By admin on July 16th, 2008

riccione drop crotch trouser baggy street style.jpgItaly might be one of the only places where the men dress better than the women. This is of course a massive generalisation but diamanté, stripper shoes and white capri pants will never be a match for the classic, timeless style that many Italian men adopt.

Dropped-crotch trousers was not something I expected to spot on holiday but I duly dug out my camera and snapped this young man before he rode off on his super cool spray-painted bike. I just wish I knew the Italian for ‘I’m not a creepy weirdo, honest’.
