First up is Andy GrantDesign Manager at River Island, who is wearing Raf Simons trainers. Andy is sporting a deceptively simple look, but little details like the cutaway collar, gold Casio watch and subtle shine finish of the windcheater really make the outfit work.
Cropped trousers can look extremely dodgy; Japanese fashion writer Yu Masui is a wonderful example of how to wear a summery crop. The stripy slacks hit just above the ankle and look great as part of a monochrome outfit.
A simple shirt provides a foil for Yu’s pleated and pearl-embellished Balenciaga accessory, after seeing it I’m tempted to raid my haberdashery stash and knock up a version of my own. The glasses top it all off and add a little humour to the look.
The Westminster show is always a treat and with people like GQ ed Dylan Jones in the audience you know the calibre is going to be high.
Sarah Senouci’s collection consisted of impeccably-finished English summer attire gently infused with retro Americana. Stand By Me met Brideshead Revisited as romantic foppishness combined with dusty farmboy.
Check and and madras shirts were accessorised with bandanas and a windcheater gave a modern touch. Trousers were either of the slouchy Oxford Bags variety or aristocratic britches.
I’ve been literally running around Earl’s Court trying to get pictures of the best-dressed men at GFW for you.
When I spied Roberto Alessandro’s tasselled loafers I knew I had to include him in our street style selection. Roberto is 21 and a 1st year Fashion Styling student at Salford. The aforementioned loafers come from Brick Lane and together with the polo shirt and OTT gold chain makes for a great look that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
We’re liveblogging from the tents at this year’s Graduate Fashion Week, apologies for the image quality here is the verdict from the catwalks. The Rochester students presented a very strong menswear collection this year, (from left to right)Minne Muztuccari kicked things off with a range of deconstructed jodphurs with sliky jersey panels and built-up ruffled jackets. Elinor Seager used sportswear and sleepwear influences teaming tracksuit-inspired cropped trousers with coral windcheaters. Suits were given a youthful twist with piping along the pockets and seams.
Pastel colours and candy stripes continued the carefree sporty theme as Elizabeth Render sent models down the catwalks in oversized voluminous shirts and dropped crotch trousers.
Trench coats aren’t hard to come by nowadays but relaxed trenches are another story. You may have been swayed the Phillip Lim trench we featured – until you saw the price. Don’t worry, This B Store trench is more affordable and, dare I say it, better quality.
The lightweight material and roll up sleeves make this a perfect summer item. The fact that its £199 -instead of Phillip Lim’s sale price of £337 – is merely a bonus. It would match well with a nautical look and suits those long days when you need a versatile jacket.

Depending on your viewpoint, sandals are either a great way to give your feet some air during the summer or an abomination that should be banned. This season, the gladiatorial sandal has made its high fashion debut, working its way into the collections of Burberry, Louis Vuitton and Basi. Are you for or against the Russell Crowe look? Remember that T-shirt trend we featured a good while back? It went from Band members to trainers to TV shows (Although no one took me up on my WIre offer) and now they’ve started featuring song lyrics. If you’ve ever wanted to show your appreciation for Andre 3000 and Big Boi in t-shirt form, this Rocksmith tee is the way to do it.
Even if you were a major fan of Outkast, you’d be forgiven for not immediately knowing where these lyrics came from. Heck, I didn’t know until I listened to the song again. Given the amount of knowledge needed to get the reference – who still listens to ATLiens? – this amounts to the highest form of musical snobbery. In the London paper today, they’ve stated that silvery grey is the colour of the season. I doubt it will be, due to grey shirts showing sweat more prominently than other colours but that’s not my main steak with this article. More problematic is the colour they’re teaming it up with – pink. Back when men started wearing pink, it was a statement of a softer side, the kind of man who cries watching Sex and the City before going back to chop some wood and crush a beer can on his forehead.
The problem is that in the last couple of years, pink has become very popular amongst men. Specifically, the FHM bloke, who have claimed the pink shirt as their own with the same vigour they claimed Ben Sherman shirts and misogyny. For anyone who doesn’t want to be mistaken for a swaggering idiot, this means pink off the colour menu.
Victoria Beckham would not approve of this new trend. Apparently fans of Mustang skinline jeans (a brand that makes Cheap Monday jeans look baggy) are filming themselves in their skin tight jeans and posting it on youtube. I’m not sure whether this is a hoax, fetish or trend – but for argument’s sake let’s call it the latter.
I could make a host of predictable jokes about cutting off circulation and the like, but I’m just going to let the following video (featured after the jump) speak for itself. It’s different, that’s for sure.

I happened through a series of make-believe fashion-related and totally cool occurrences to be watching Britain’s Got Talent the other night and as a result I was witness to the horror of Hoop La La. No, this is not some Christian cult or Paganistic ritual it is the work of Jessie, Craig and Tina; a group of students hoping to make it big with their hula-hoop act.
After watching I was inspired to right a piece on vintage clothing and while unexpectedly drawn from the image of a Scot in hot-pants, there is greater reasoning after the jump.
At Radio 1′s Big Weekend this weekend, the line-up was that of a rather well-dressed bunch of bands. Madonna excluded. Looking at the photos from this Maidstone extravaganza of fun and frolicking, Irwin Sparks of The Hoosiers stood out as a Brandish-reading sartorialist. He has obviously caught on to our nautical debate and performed in a striped polo and chinos. Also interesting was the appearance (as in attendance not attire) of Usher who wore a Burberry-inspired leather jacket with oversized studs on top of a black vest (see Dan Gillespie of The Feeling.)

Whilst leather bags are great and all, there’s just something very un-summery about them. The material is pretty heavy and doesn’t cope with hot weather very well.
