Fresh new shoe styles from Terra Plana

By shel on May 2nd, 2008

In a remarkably short space of time, Terra Plana has become the UK’s best known name in sustainable footwear. With its instantly recognisable, cutting edge styles, its designers have come up with footwear that people really want to be seen in, blowing earlier ideas about ‘hippy’ footwear completely out of the water.

And the latest collection shows that Terra Plana’s star continues in ascendent, with some really funky trainers added to its existing lines. New styles include the Aqua (above), which boasts an ultra thin puncture resistant sole that gives the wearer the feeling of being barefoot.

Trends: Watch & Wear- Navy SEAL Zeal

By Will Reid on April 30th, 2008

00010f.jpgList any of this season’s It-items and chances are they are water-related or wave-inspired. Yes, that means you boat shoe, loafer, plimsoll, striped tee and navy (hello!) blue shirt.

The mood is light yet determined and spray-in-the-face cool. Imagine sea-side escapades (emphasis on the imagine) and sand between your toes as you loosely raise that striped knit from your oversized Jil Sander mesh-holdall.

Look to the collections of Dolce & Gabbana, Louis Vuitton (left) and see after the jump for a full report of this operation. Oh, my fellow SEALs, the time has come for a full-scale suppression of those autumnal tones.

By admin on April 23rd, 2008

MADRAS J SIMONS LONDON COVENT GARDEN.jpgAfter reading Dave Walker from Modculture’s comment on my tassel loafers post I had a look a the J.Simons website and what a treat it is! You really get a feel for his commitment to style and passion, and John himself has some really great stories from his youth:

“At 23, ambition started to creep in. We began copying American clothes, getting little old ladies to make them up for us. Next to the Hackney Empire we opened a shop and called it Clothesville. We’d take things like the Burberry raincoat and give it a twist, do it in corduroy.”

John went on to open The Ivy Shop in ’65 selling American clothing to young mods.

Street Trends: Tasselled loafers

By admin on April 22nd, 2008

You can probably tell from this poor man’s expression that when I approached him to take a picture he thought I was taking the piss, but his highly shined loafers caught my eye like a silver spoon to a magpie. Added kudos goes to his pressed cords and Fred Perry bomber, it’s a mod(-ish purists!) look without the museum-y feel.

Return of the flat-top

By admin on April 15th, 2008

In the latest issue of GQ Style Charlie Porter is waxing lyrical about the ’21st Century Flat Top’ and I have to say I agree. It fits in with a new style preppiness and clean minimalism which is the antithesis of Hedi Slimane’s slimfit rockstar look.
