The Sperry collaboration with Scott Sternberg from Band Of Outsiders continues for another season. The deck boots of last summer sparked a huge trend and this season, the boots are back in a black gingham and I don’t know if it’s me being taken aback by how nice the colourway is in contrast to the colour blocking they did on some of last seasons models, but are the nicest deck boots so far. The penny loafers are also back with an all suede upper, canvas lining and Sperry deck sole. They come either navy, or brown. My favorite piece in the collection is the emerald green deck shoes above. The upper is washed out rough nylon and suede, they have a canvas lining and three eyelets. They are the most beautiful shape, and although deck shoes might be going a bit stale this summer, with Sperry X Band of Outsiders, your feet will look as fresh as anything. All the styles mentioned are available to view in the gallery and are now being stocked by Colette.

I also found this A-Z of summer video using Band Of Outsiders clothes from the Spring 2009 collection, it’s a short, charming motion graphics piece and was made after the creator did an internship with the company.

I would have embedded it, but it starts without you having to click play and I’m sure that would be annoying. You can watch it HERE.

Part of Palladium Exploration series, this is #6. It documents the pirate radio scene in London. This is really interesting. it charts the effect of the internet on pirate radio, how they set up the transmitters by climbing up buildings, and how exactly they know when OffCom are on to them. If you enjoy this, I recommend you check out their ‘Ruins Of New York’ documentary.
This video is in collaboration with Wonderland magazine, and is showcasing the Dior Homme A/W 2010 collection. The catwalk video is also available to view on the Dior Homme website
To celebrate 50 years of Doc Martens and having an iconic association with music, Dr. Martens have teamed up with ten bands to release an album of covers. From April 1st drmartens.com will be offering downloads of full tracks, music videos, behind-the-scenes footage and documentary webisodes.
From our womenswear blog, Catwalk Queen…
As tributes for Michael Jackson continue to pour in, Sir Paul Smith made the ultimate gesture to the late King of Pop during his closing menswear show in Paris yesterday. The British designer danced his way down the catwalk to Jackson’s iconic “Thriller,” together with his light-footed models. It was a happy and celebratory moment as the audience clapped and bopped along. Catch sight of grey-haired Paul getting down to MJ by clicking play on the video above – fun!

From Catwalk Queen… This has to be the strangest news that I have read in a while (in the last 24 hours, at least). Liam Gallagher is getting his hands on the rag trade by launching his own fashion label, Pretty Green. Nope, I’m not joking either.
It seems the Oasis frontman has his sights set on fashion, why? Because “he likes clothes.” Fair enough I guess. The label is beginning with menswear, with a limited edition collection of classic pieces including trench coats, knit, footwear and t-shirts. Pretty green or pretty bad? You decide. Men.Style have just posted this hilarious video of self-confessed ‘Lo-Head’ rapper, 88-Keys. Don’t panic- I too had absolutely no idea what a ‘Lo-Head’ was but all is revealed and it turns out that this term is colloquial for someone who is obsessed with the Ralph Lauren Polo clothing.
What do you think of these label loons. Do you go ga-ga for Gucci? Are you bonkers for Bottega? Vote Yay or Nay after the jump.
The standout show at Pitti Uomo was, in my mind, Alexander McQueen’s “The McQueensberry Rules”. Where most Milan designers literally translated the gloom of the economic crisis McQueen added a murderous glint to the proceedings with aristocratic eleagance and a glossy nostalgia for a pre-Thatcherite Britain.
Sending models down the catwalk with fingerless gloves, silver-topped canes and darkened, bloodshot eyes it seemed that McQueen had gone the safe route of pairing outlandish styling with conventional clothing, but on closer inspection everything about this collection gave off a menacing whiff.
Referencing some of the most aggressive or manic male archetypes everyone from the majestic to the deranged got a look in. Skinheads’ oxblood 10 hole DMs, teddy boys’ draped jackets combined with Jack the Ripper menace and Clockwork Orange swagger for a collection that was admittedly theatrical but anchored by impeccable tailoring. Trousers were tight, and a strong upper half was emphasised with sharp suit jackets, thick coats and beefy woollens. Chainmail vests, butcher’s aprons and boxing gloves alluded to traditional facets of men in the workplace in a proudly aggressive and vital assertion of masculinity.
Jump through to watch an impressive video of the show, with thunderous music and songs by the Specials and the Stranglers, you can watch part two here.

I’ve read a few interviews by Man Like Me, and wasn’t convinced but when our Stu showed me their latest video I began to come round. ‘Single Dad’ (out on Feb 9th) is all about the perils of finding yourself with child but thankfully it has a happy ending. Steel drums are always a good thing in my humble opinion and their Madness-esque sound is awfully nostalgic.
I can only applaud the fashion sense: sexy minicab driver gold watches, bright rugby shirts and ’90s jade green blousons, it’s all very tongue in cheek but just the thing for this gloomy month. What’s more the gang have been known to indulge in a bit of Burberry check, which is oh so now! Jump through to see the vid in its entirety, featuring dollies, pushchairs and a man in a nappy.
Who’d a thunk this video was nearly 20 years old? Yellow Magic Orchestra do their thing, which is ambient eletropop, in the Budokan centre in Tokyo in 1980.
Check out the super-puffed shirts, a marked contrast to the slim-fit we’ve grown accustomed to recently. Hopefully it’ll serve as some kind of sartorial inspiration if you going out somewhere nice this weekend!
As videos go this one is kinda dull. There are no explosions, guns or tits nor is there a girl satisfying a horse/dog/herself (delete as applicable) so it’s doubtful that this is the kind of fodder we would usually ogle on our TVs or behind our bedroom’s locked door. However there are shoes, lots of lovely shoes. The video is from Band of Outsiders and showcases their collabo with Sperry bringing some awesome deck shoes for the coming season.
Hit play to see what to look out for in the coming months.
I would want nothing more for Christmas than to be gently woken up by these two guys handing me a steaming mug of tea as they pick out my outfit. I could happily trot off to the shower knowing they were planning my clothes, hairstyle and make up for the day. Check out this video where they showcase their styling genius, mm hairgel.
