Giles Deacon for New Look, one of the few designer X high street collaborations for men returns next week with another collection, featuring a selection of shirts, t-shirts, jeans and knits.
We like that the New Look collections are a chance to see Deacon’s lighter take on fashion with witty t-shirt prints and bright colours. Hopefully we’ll see see pieces which push boundaries a little more in future collections but as always it’s baby steps for menswear. Having said that the designer himself wears quite simple and classic clothes, miles away from his last Pac Man womenswear catwalk show. What do you think? Take our poll and let us know!
Kingston University‘s show was a much-anticipated one, and the atmosphere was electric as the lights went down.
Philippa Jenkins showed smart adventurer looks, with great accessories, she obviously has a knack for colour. Myriam Saumtally focused on sports items and workwear, giving grey jersey a twist with embroidery and we particularly loved the semi-sheer nylon jacket, with houndstooth fabric just visible underneath. Alexander James‘ subtle moorish influences married perfectly with details like cummerbunds and we fell in love with the pleated grey harem pants. A big GFW trend, Eleanor Searle‘s sheer tailored boilersuit was the centrepiece of her sportswear collection.
We’ve featured Alexa Chung, Mischa Barton and Hannah Murray all looking gorgeous in our CQ galleries but stylistically, award ceremonies are always less of a big deal for the men.
We’ve sifted through the guys and brought you some gems and some definite stinkers, from Harry Hill to Ed Westwick we’ve got a good spectrum from the evening.
Celebs already make us jealous with their post-Christmas holidays in the Carribean, the Bold and the Beautiful have been out at Coachella, the first festival of the summer.
From David Hasslehoff to Jared Leto the US stars were out in full force, having a lovely time but we also had some Uk slebs representing, with Agyness Deyn and Henry Holland putting in an appearance.
Remember a few years ago when it was all the rage amongst so called “men” to wear hair bands and scrape back their long greasy hair? Yeah me too and it looks like dark times are upon us once again as images of a very bearded Joaquin Phoenix sporting some “man clips” are floating around the information super highway. Like anything in the fashion world prefixed with the word “man” it looks and is a bag of crap, nothing angers me more than idiotic man-hair with the possible exception of men in Ugg Boots, evenmen in make up fails to hit quite so high on the richter scale.
If this turns into a fully blown trend then I will go postal.
Raf Simons is back once again with mod father Fred Perry to bring their SS09 collab. Moving away from the monotone of previous seasons these power houses of style are moving into the exciting unknown with a vibrant colour palette taking it’s inspiration from West African culture.
The range consists of 25 pieces some of which are reworkings of Fred Perry classics such as the polo shirt augmented with new weaves and knits. New comers to the line include slipon, tassle loafers in both navy blue and burnt red and a slim fit harrington jacket in regal blue.
men.style.com have posted their fashion forecast for 2009 and it looks like we will be wearing floral print with holes in our shoes this year. As forecasts go I think it’s a little hit and miss, yes plaid is here to stay and mismatching suit jacket/pants seem to be pretty hot right now but I can’t see myself in a pair of perforated winkle pickers I’m afraid.
Up yo your eyeballs in Comme Des Garcons x H&M wear? Bought two of each piece, one to wear and one for keepsies? Sad because the line has been out for weeks now and you don’t know where your next H&M + guest designer cross over hit is coming from? Never fear! Matthew Williamson designer and part time Christian Slater lookalike (seriously check the picture) is here to rescue you! WWD has it that Williamson and H&M will be releasing a line of womenswear at select H&M stores on April 23rd- “But I’m a man!” I hear you cry, well dry your eyes because following this limited release will be a general release of H&M x Williamson summer clothes which will include a menswear line, hurrah!
Putting pictures of semi clad young ladies on calendars is an idea that is as old as time, but sometimes the old ideas are the best ones. Keeping up with this heritage Estevan Oriol of Upper Playground has created his own 2009 calendar entitled “LA Woman”. The calendar needs little explanation and features both black and white and colour shots all of which look awesome.
As well as a calendar Oriol has created a pair of t-shirts which are available, along with the calendars from Upper Playground stores and their website.
