I know, I know; Topman has become a bit of a regular feature on Brandish but when I noticed this look on the label’s website during my regular internet trawl, I couldn’t resist commenting.
While I’m not too sure about the rather peculiar Alice Dellal haircut (as highlighted in a previous Brandish post.) I think he gets off with it due to his incredible look- brash patter shirt, acid-washed jeans and skinny belt…but messy enough to avoid the overly-manicured style of the 80s fashionisto.
More to come on Topman’s ‘Motel Arizona’ look soon!

Watching BBC Four’s current series of fashion programmes? If not, shame on you! Hot on the heels of British Style Genius, Style on Trial has the premise of evaluating each decade from 1940s to 1980s in terms of its sartorial elegance. Whilst the programme takes the rather tired focus of fashion=womenswear, there’s enough on show to keep it interesting for us guys. Upcoming: the 70s and 80s (the latter featuring John Taylor from Duran!) Check broadcast times here, or in these days of convenience just watch the whole season via the fabulous BBC iPlayer.

I know Casio watches are a bit ubiquitous nowadays but I’m still hankering after a gold Dual Time Casio for that sleazy uncle/skeezy factor. There’s something amazingly creepy about having two kinds of time on one watch, and I love it.
For a less tacky and more durable (in trend terms anyway) go for the the black resin strap version. It hides its ’80s retro geeky looks under a cloak of minimalist respectability fooling people into thinking it’s a plain old boring watch. Furthermore it does all of this for the utterly stupid price of £10.97, brilliant!

One of my own punk-inspired ‘sets’ combines Dries Van Noten trousers, a Uniqlo t-shirt, an image of inspiration and a black crayon with Vans for some high fashion-DIY.
Polyvore has long been the talk of fashionistas and our sister site, Catwalk Queen, runs a ‘Style This’ competition based completely around the image-making tool. Whether it’s a Vivienne Westwood tie or a Topman ring, styling outfits has never been easier! Granted, we men have it a bit harder in terms of finding a wide variety of items but just search for ‘man bag’ and you have a good page of man-bags.
And best/worst of all? After you’ve styled your outfits you can even buy everything you’ve included in your image.
Look out for more Brandish outfits or watch the Polyvore tutorials and send your own to isabelle [at] shinymedia.com!

One of the few pictures from the Sartorialist’s London visit has surfaced and it’s a wonderful piece of British nostalgia. The tasselled loafers look great with the mustard top and oxblood bag, like the commenters I’m not so sure about the fit of the jeans but I think we can let him off!

As part of Google Mail, you are constantly bombarded with adverts for whatever your e-mails are about. For me, that is largely fashion and therefore, I receive links to sites such as 80sTees.com. This online store proved to be pretty good; I wasted about half and hour going through the memorabilia.
See after the jump for my top picks-including a Karate Kid t-shirt, awesome NEW YORK MTV t-shirt and an incredible Freddy Krueger jumper (who cares if it’s not entirely wearable-it’s a “deluxe replica”!)

Entertainment, Heroes and Celebrities, Polls

While silently delighting in the sleazy nature of the Daily Mail, I found myself drawn to Corey Haim’s tale of Posh Spice’s lack of pulling prowess. He claims that when Mrs. Beckham kisses she “does this little grrhh thing. What did it feel like? Like a girl gnawing on your lip!” Oh yes, that feeling…?!
Poor Posh, it must be rather rubbish to wake up and find that an 80s Teen-Idol has returned to rain on your sex symbol status (okay, maybe not sex symbol but let’s be nice!) It made me wonder if maybe I too would be rather boastful if I had got with the current Marc Jacobs model. Would I be whipping out stories of my romantic escapades with Lady B if I too had enjoyed her company? Or would I have enough self-repsect to keep quiet?
See the Brandish Poll after the jump to tell us what you think.

Sporty is coming back, I know that for menswear it never really went away, but it’s less about saggy trackie bottoms, and more about futuristic chic. Mix textures with wet-look anorak style fabrics and cotton jersey. This Martin Margiela jacket from Browns (£695) is quite retro with it’s shell suit style patchwork but the slim cut keeps it looking modern. Wear it with faded black denim jeans and white canvas pumps for a Jacques Lu Cont-alike ’80s look.
