Alice Olins of The Times newspaper has just released a quick summary of the major menswear shows so far at Milan’s Menswear Fashion Week and with insider details and little snippets of useful information, her reports are a great read.
Olins reviews Burberry, D&G, Gucci, McQueen, Cavalli, Armani and Prada as well as including some hints as to where fashion is going and just enough backstage bitching! Follow this link now!
An epic fashion row has erupted over a pair of quilted silk trousers seen on both the D&G and Armani catwalks at the Milan menswear shows.
Armani started it all by saying: “Now they copy, later they will learn.”
Then Dolce & Gabbana took it up a notch stating: “For sure we have much to learn – but certainly not from him.” They said Armani “has never been a source of inspiration for us and we stopped seeing his shows years ago”. The design duo ended it with a whopper of a statement: “As Picasso used to say – copying from others is inevitable but copying from oneself leads to sterility.”
The first lovely preview of the Adidas x Jeremy Scott colab is upon us, and I’m looking to those who boldly go where I choose not to… no, fear to tread. Those who say yes to leopard print and knocked off Armani. To those who still rock a greasy mullet and large faux jewel earings. That’s right, I’m looking to the Portuguese and their king Cristiano Ronaldo.
Jeremy Scott has created quite an enigma in this line, pieces being both awesome and totally shit all at the same time, which is quite an achievement. For example the sneakers have wings on them- awesome, but then they are gold and have wings on them- totally shit. All pieces are eye catching to say the least and do genuinely have a little extra oomph on what Adidas has produced in the past with any of its previous colabs (Yohji Yamamto and Stella McCartney spring to mind)- which is definitely a plus. Still I’m left wondering who exactly is going to wear any of it. Oh. Ronaldo.
Josh Hartnett was revealed as the male face of the Emporio Armani ‘Diamonds’ fragrance earlier this year and now, the advert has been released! We’re yet to get you a review but when we do, I hope it’s better than this advert. I was expecting something a bit more dramatic- the ladies got full-on glitter sing-song from Beyonce Knowles!
As Beckham’s ‘people’ deny he’s been at all enhanced in the Armani pants department and Matt McConaughey is seen in D&G ads being hounded for his bod, it occurs to me that more than ever we men are striving for physical perfection.
More and more I am left sulking at lunch as male friends tell me they are banned from certain foods and no, before you ask, they’re not all gay. Or vain.
So, are you in with this phenomenon? Have you ever dieted or are you more of an iron-pumper?
James Corden, the star of the BBC3 hit sitcom Gavin and Stacey stripped off for a Heat magazine photoshoot parodying David Beckham’s infamous Armani ads. Corden is pictured reclining on an artfully rumpled sheet complete with a comically enhanced package, greased up limbs and moody stare.
Don’t know about you, but I actually think I prefer the Corden version, he’d be much more fun to hang out with, no offence Becks! If you’ve never seen Gavin and Stacey check out the highly amusing clip after the jump.
If we said phrases like ‘so and so is the new so and so’ we’d say that boat shoes are the new Puma for Brandish. The latest hoppers onto the boat shoe bandwagon are Band of Outsiders. Their new collaboration is with boat shoe specialists Sperry topsider.
With piping and boat shoes becoming increasingly popular nowadays, these effectively hit two trends with one shoe. There’s also the added luxury of knowing that these were made with people who know how to make good boat shoes, meaning it won’t be badly made overpriced nonsense, like a pair of Armani jeans or something. You can get these from eluxury for $265.
David Beckham’s outfit leaves a lot more to the imagination than his
recent underwear ad for Armani and I must say I quite like this look.
It’s very a formal outfit but the fitted proportions make it more
wearable and I love the silhouette it creates.
Some of my Shiny
colleagues were shocked by the tightness of the kecks but they’re so
well cut he can get away with it. His shirt sleeve garters are a nice detail and I love the high-cut waistcoat. It’s just a shame I can’t heap any praise on his wife’s ‘highlighter pen’ outfit. Click on the thumbnail to enlarge picture.
Russell Crowe’s Australian rugby team "The South Sydney Rabbitohs" will now travel to matches in Armani tailor-made suits designed to "pick up on the team’s rich history." The gruff Australian has tried to update the team’s image by making games more family friendly, and hopes these new new suits will make the players feel like the business. He said: "there can be no better way to arrive for matches than standing tall and feeling confident because of Giorgio Armani’s magic". The team debut their new suits on the 16th. Armani said: "Russell Crowe does not call often and when he does, it is usually about something very important. For me sportsmen are
like modern day gladiators and because they have to show real
dedication and skill they are an inspiration for all of us."
