We all know that Lando “Billy Dee Williams” Calrissian is a sharp dresser. Heck, even his Cloud City pad would be a dead cert for the title of “Best Intergalactic Crib” should the MTV show ever spread among the stars. But what of the rest of the Star Wars cast? With a whole empire at his disposal Darth Vader would surely be able to charm (READ: Force Choke) a decent tailor into suiting him up into some crisp threads. And what of an outdoorsman like Chewbacca? He’s going to need some serious Birkenstocks to keep those furry paws in shape.
John Woo (the illustrator/designer, not he of “Face/Off” fame) has the answers, dressing up the galaxy’s finest aliens and Empire henchmen on trend for his new “He Wears It” project.
It’s not only great fun, but they look neat too; the Clone Tropper in Junya Watanabe and Darth Vader in Band of Outsiders look particularly sharp! Still, there’s no saving Jar Jar Binks; in Maison Martin Margiela he’s even more of an annoying dick.
All of Woo’s Star Wars illustrations (alongside some Forrest Gump and Edward Scissorhands ones too) are available to purchase as prints from his Etsy.com shop, priced $60.00 USD.

Topman have a new mini-collection on their online shop and the look is ‘Chelsea Arts Club.’ The high street label (beloved by the Brandish team,) tells that “this smart trend is influenced by a sophisticated age where actors, artists and sartorialists mixed in exclusive members clubs…the overall look is quirky.” For me, this translates as unusual textures, subtle details and wow-factor tailoring. My fashspirational men are Bob Dylan, Gregory Corso and Pablo Picasso; men who looked effortlessly awesome in rolled-up trousers and paint-stained tees.
Why not buy basic items from Topman and try your hand at home-made accessories? Prepare yourself for beads on string, paperclip tie bars and old woman’s brooches pinned into buttonholes.
Pick up a Murakami novel, write a poem and carry a wicker basket- this summer is all about your inner artist!

Clothing, Designer Spotlight, Heroes and Celebrities

This week’s Love The Look features the wonderfully odd Terrence Koh (artist, fashionisto, sperm-collector, sculptor of crap and other bodily fluids.) Koh has just been made the face of hip label United Bamboo and the ad campaign for this season is an extravaganza of tinsel, blurry shots and classic tailoring with quirky details.
The image above and the rest of the campaign images after the jump will all debut in the Spring/ Summer issue of Fantastic Man.

You know when relatives get Christmas presents that just get under your skin? Well, Hama beads were that present during this holiday season. Whether in my pockets, in my shoes, woven onto my laces, down my skinny jeans (don’t ask!) they were everywhere. The trick with this gift is that you make designs out of the beads and then iron them for a minute to get a solid design. When a young cousin made me a heart it all clicked- these Hama beads were a replica of the It-accessory of the moment as seen on Kanye West and Brandish. And they only cost £3.75 off Amazon and for that price who cares if the recommended customer age is 5?!
Check the pictures of some designs that I managed to snap over the holidays!

Jordan Askill, a designer whose work for Dior Homme and Ksubi has cemented him as a name to keep an eye on, has launched a jewellery collection at Dover Street Market (DSM.) Dover Street Market is a fashion emporium founded by Rei Kawakubo and her husband and it has become known for its artistic installations, exclusive lines and designer collaborations. In previous years, we’ve seen a hotel room designed by Alber Elbaz of Lanvin and a Tiki-hut check-out.
Akill’s jewellery line is made up of edgy, androgynous pieces that could be worn by either guys or girls and Vogue reports that “the debut jewellery offering features bird, boy and rose motifs as fragile and rare entities – the flora, fauna and humanity of life – set in a claw to denote them as “precious memories to capture“. Lovely.
