Which High-Profile Model Inspired Brandon Flowers’ Brits Brilliance?

By Will Reid on February 26th, 2009

wenn5250728.jpgWhen Brandon Flowers stepped onto the stage at this years Brits 2009 in that jacket I died as I felt my own wardrobe implode with sheer joy. His jacket had major shoulder pads covered in long feathers and the overall look was a mixture of indie legend and an American footballer who had been given a makeover by Jean Paul Gaultier.

I was pleasantly surprised at how many people shared in my amazement and when I set my Facebook status to something Brandon-related immediately I had replies from fashion, music and technology writers all claiming to be either in love/ mad with envy or seeing double. I, myself, felt that I recognised the jacket and it wasn’t until the next day that I realised the model Brandon had obviously been taking style tips from…

Russell Brand and Thom Browne at the GQ Men of the Year Awards

It was seemingly awkward stares all round at the US GQ Men of the Year party in LA recently. Russell Brand sported the faraway be-sunglassed look of someone who has just been scorned and check out Adam Brody‘s weird fake smile. My personal winners on the night were Thom Browne, sporting his trademark short cut, and although I’ve never heard of him before I applaud young Anton Yelchin‘s choice of outfit, the hat is inspired and gives him a slightly creepy air of authority.

Funniest prize has to go to Prick of the Year, which was won by Gordon Ramsay, ha! James Franco who appeared on the cover of Vogue Hommes and Man About Town this year was voted Screen Idol proving his worth as current sartorial mancrush. See after the jump for more of the winners.

A Grunge Revival? Alan Cumming Seems To Think So!

By Will Reid on September 15th, 2008

rex_801664b.jpgRex Features describes the Creative Arts Primetime Emmys as an event to “recognise technical and other achievements for the 2007-08 TV season…widely considered to be a precursor to the main Emmys ceremony.”

In my world of tired soaps like Eastenders and Coronation St, this translates as an excuse for C-list stars to dress up in posh frocks a la the recent TV Soap Awards (or something along those lines) that occurred in Britain where everyone thought that Ashley Slanina-Davies from Hollyoaks was a style star because she actually had a YSL clutch (and, I admit it, she did look wonderfully 80s.)

Anyway, Alan Cumming decided to bring a different flavour to the LA-based awards and opted for grunge-hair and darker shades instead of the usual skinny-fit suit, Converse trainer and grey/black palette that we see from most of LA’s men.

Brandish Poll: JT in Frock Horror Scandal?

By Will Reid on September 9th, 2008

Being the face of a Givenchy fragrance pretty much cements you as a style star (not that I would know but one must work on assumption when speaking of Britney-dating, ex-N*Sync stars!) Well, I was bitterly disappointed in Justin Timberlake’s outfit at the Fashion Rocks concert last week. JT wore a grey blazer from his new ‘William Rast’ range and a pair of hideous turn-up jeans with an odd silk tie- seemingly cut in half.

Is it just me who’s shocked by this lack of style sense? Vote in our poll below!

David Beckham and Zac Efron sport waistcoats at the Teen Choice Awards

By admin on August 4th, 2008

david beckham zac efron teen choice.jpgDavid Beckham was pictured this week at the Teen Choice Awards in a waistcoat and check shirt combo. Teamed with a pair of jeans it’s a good way to add some smarts to a relaxed outfit.

High School Musical’s Zac Efron took a similar tack and wore his white polo with a tailored grey waistcoat for a classic, fresh look. To emulate Efron and Beckham’s look pick up a waistcoat from Topman or Burton; you can also get do a good selection of secondhand waistcoats from Rokit. Waistcoats can sometimes look a little newsboy or even worse, Boyzone circa 1996 so try to steer clear of anything too retro, like wide-leg pants with turn-ups or baker boy caps.
