New York & Los Angeles-based boutique Opening Ceremony is already a favourite with fashion insiders, with a wide-ranging selection of fine labels, cuts and accessories; much like to London’s b Store, but with added vintage finds. Like that Savile Row emporium, their own-brand shoes have become staples with footwear connoisseurs.
And it’s easy to see why. Understatedly simple design, well put together and beautifully finished; they are shoes that are designed to last beyond one season. Originally seen in the post-war US airforce, the classic blue suede shoe has been updated in an electric indigo (Some call it International Klein Blue, some call it Celia Blue), which should by rights pigeonhole them as one-hit wonders, but is striking rather than fashion-victim. They also exist in a clean, desert boot style, and in a darker suede, with a Lanvinesque patent leather toe. Suede isn’t exactly the most practical of materials (just ask Elvis), but when it’s executed this well, frankly, who cares?
Available from online fashion oasis, Farfetch (via the V-Store in Copenhagen), and French retailer Tres Bien Shop.

Farfetch, the website that brings together the best from designer boutiques around Europe, is having a private sale. Admittedly there isn’t much for a credit crunch budget, but there are plenty of quality investment pieces with up to a 40% discount.
The Missoni sweater should by rights, be an eyesore, but because it’s Missoni it just works. Use as a cosy beach cover-up over some tailored grey shorts. The limited edition design means that each jumper will be different which is an added bonus. Raf Simons‘ transparent grey aviators are totally modern, whilst retaining the classic shape. If you can manage not to sit on them these will last you a long time. Fummel & Kram‘s tapeman scarf is colourful and playful, but the taupe fabric will go with a multitude of summer colours. Finally, brogues are firmly positioned as a wardrobe staple once more, and B Store’s pair scream summer.

As fashion continues to trawl the Americana back catalogue, the boater pops up as a summer hat option. You’ll need bags of attitude to carry it off as well as this uber-Lower East Side hipster (it’s photographer Dash Snow) but hell, you can try.
ASOS have the perfect hat (by B-Store) in black. It’s a pricey £175 but the rest of your outfit can be dirt basic (check Mr Snow’s Canal Street leather holster, white tee and black jeans combo) or keep an eye on ladies’ boater options on the high street. ASOS also have a bargain, natural boater with coloured, striped ribbon. It’s more likely you’ll face Colonel Sanders quips but is possibly a better option if you’re pale and interesting and working the Anglo take on the boater hat style. Just lay off the striped blazer to avoid period costume.

Over coffee the other day, I was talking to a friend who suffers from SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder.) Listening to the misery of days spent not knowing what to wear each morning (friends will know of how immense the impact of fashion is upon my life!) I decided to go on the lookout for a designer who can deliver trans-seasonal clothes that will carry us males throughout the year.
b Store London is edging towards the avant-garde and I wasn’t at all expecting to find my SAD solution on its site. Its b Clothing range is full of really wearable, all-year pieces and I would be proud to don this shirt-come rain or shine.

Seersucker is big with the Brandish team and Matthew Willamson‘s quite lovely seersucker striped suit, as Isabelle highlighted last week, is likely to make awareness of this fabric an all-time high. But what makes it such an ideal summer fabric? Wikipedia (as ever) explains all: the weaving process ’causes some threads to bunch together, this wrinkled appearance causes the fabric to be mostly held away from the skin’, keeping you cool and meaning no ironing is necessary. Result!
So what are your options? I bought a pair of slim, white/grey needle stripe pants at Banana Republic in the US last year, a great staple, they’re available here at the Regent Street store. For a darker take on summery seersucker, B-store’s, black pleated pants are now on sale at ASOS. Finally, this vibrant, Madras check shirt also at ASOS puts a bright spin on the traditionally subtle stripe.

Combining a lace up with a Chelsea boot doesn’t sound like the smartest move but this B Store shoe is marvellously executed.
In a fetching tan colour the ‘Mario’ boot teams the smart good looks of a lace up with the rugged durability of a boot and will keep you looking stylish all winter. It’s also available in black and at £199 isn’t cheap but a well-made leather boot like this is a great investment.

Carola Euler is fast becoming one of the most talked-about names in menswear, having quickly made her mark on such fashion hotspots as b Store and Asos. We’ve featured some of the streetwear pieces she designed for the latter’s ‘Untitled’ collection, but what makes this still-shadowy designer tick?
Style Salvage ran an interview with the German-born designer, revealing such insights as her somewhat un-PC passion for mass-produced, disposable fashion, her aversion to ribbed tops and her love of jerseys. See after the jump for a few snippets from the interview.

Danish designer Kaspar Harup-Hansen is the latest addition to the Topman Lens roster of designers which includes names like Dexter Wong and Carolyn Massey. Topman’s Design Director Gordon Richardson says: “I have admired Kaspar’s use of Japanese fashion combined with Copenhagen street inspiration. He uses twisted well known classics, with special processing and exquisite detailing.” I like the subtle play on silhouette using familiar items like shirts and hoodies.
b Store’s Matthew Murphy helped Richardson pick the designers for the collection, which will be available from 14th September. See after the jump for the rest of the designers.

Trench coats aren’t hard to come by nowadays but relaxed trenches are another story. You may have been swayed the Phillip Lim trench we featured – until you saw the price. Don’t worry, This B Store trench is more affordable and, dare I say it, better quality.
The lightweight material and roll up sleeves make this a perfect summer item. The fact that its £199 -instead of Phillip Lim’s sale price of £337 – is merely a bonus. It would match well with a nautical look and suits those long days when you need a versatile jacket.

From Marc Jacobs to Topman, McQ to Uniqlo, short shorts have undoubtedly secured their place as the menswear item of the season – and possibly the year. If I said they needed an adopter than Brandish is the orphanage. We have given you examples of short shorts in a spectrum of colours, fabrics and prints and Jason even took it to a political platform!
If politics is your thing, these PVC shorts from Ute Ploier are the David Cameron of this trend (and by that I don’t mean they have their own cringy webcast or a penchant for innocent smoothies.) Quirky, original and edgy these shorts would be perfect for night with a crisp white shirt and dove grey blazer or for day with a plain white t-shirt, raspberry American Eagle jumper and white plimsolls. Most of all just relish in the fact that you can wear PVC short shorts and still be in fashion.

Why the long face pretty man? Oh I see, Topman are pushing forward the launch date of their Lens collection to March. Fair enough, the collection includes clothing by Neue, Carolyn Massey and Dexter Wong as well as new faces Material Boy and Mojik so I’d be pretty upset too.
b Store owner Matthew Murphy chose Mojik and Material Boy the new designers so you can guarantee the clothes will be quality. Murphy has ransacked the designers’ back catalogues, bringing you reworked old favourites and edgy new pieces. See after the jump for more images of despondent men kitted out in the collection.
Don’t worry guys the collection will be available online from March…It’s only a month away!
