Alexander McQueen talks to Numéro Homme

By admin on March 23rd, 2009

The Spring Summer issue of Numéro Homme is out, and for the non-francophones among us they kindly include an English translation of all the interviews at the back of the mag.

Philip Utz spoke to Alexander McQueen who, with typical forthrightness called Utz up on his interview skills, called fashion journalism a “thinly-veiled exercise in marketing” and then proclaimed that “the British Fashion Council doesn’t know what the fuck it’s doing.”

In a particularly explosive comment McQueen said: “Well what do you make of Hubert de Givenchy? He was only ever any good at ripping off [Cristobal] Balenciaga

Menswear by Mouret- Yes Please!

By Will Reid on November 20th, 2008

47b53d26-95a3-468c-8ebe-a2eb2b38dafb.jpgFashionista editor Natalie Hormilla has let it slip that Roland Mouret is set to make a menswear collection. It is rumoured to launch during the next men’s Fashion Week (A/W 2009) and Natalie rightfully points out that Roland is not the first high-end designer to have launched a menswear line in recent times. The news comes only one month after Nicolas Ghesquière of Balenciaga showed men’s fashion in his catwalk collection.

Look out for more updates soon!

The gothic script and dark colours suggest something of a cross between the worst of River Island and All Saints but scrape under the surface of Heartless and you’ll find a great selection of menswear. With online boutiques being few and far between for men any new etailer is a bonus for mankind, and what’s more they’re soon opening a store in Mayfair in addition to their Essex boutique.

Obviously Heartless are never going to veer completely off from their Essex roots, -and why would they?- but don’t let that stop you as the site is well worth a visit.

Balenciaga Cardy

By admin on February 5th, 2008

BalenciagaOh do hush. So I predicted the end of cardigans and now I’ve posted not one but two of them. What of it? I was only joking before. You obviously missed the intonation. Ahem.

Anyway, who could pass this over. It’s a beaut. And at £450 it ought to be. It’s a very nice colour combination and somehow looks dead tough, don’t you think? Like what a retired Hell’s Angel might wear. You can get it from Matches.

Philip Start’s Fashion Week diary

By Isabelle on January 23rd, 2008

Philipstart
Philip Start has been in Paris at the menswear shows looking for new pieces for his London Boutique Start. He caught up with us and gave us the lowdown from the last few days:

Tranoï a small French retailer, had the best brands that didn’t have showrooms and some of the bigger names included Juun-J, U-ni-ty and Tillmann Lauterbach.

Philip went to the Dior show which he said was ‘a bit retro, all black skinny jeans and nothing new’. Ever since Hedi Slimane’s departure Dior has struggled to find a new style and Kris Van Aasche’s MC Hammer trousers weren’t impressing him: ‘My suspicion is that because he
didn’t invent skinny jeans he’s trying to make a mark but I’m not interested in
it’. Philip’s celebrity companion Brian Molko apparently wasn’t too impressed by the baggy trousers either.

Winter coats in the sale – Balenciaga

By admin on January 7th, 2008

BalenciagaSales are strange things. You barely feel the pinch of winter and then all the warm stuff you want to wear starts to get discounted. This works out ok for the shopper though as any winter clothes you buy now in the Sale, you’ll probably still get a fair bit of wear out of.
With this in mind, I’m on the look out for a good winter coat – one that’s a good price but it going to last you more than just this winter.
I’m starting with this one from Balenciaga At £550 it’s not cheap, but it’s a classic shape so it’s going to last forever and it’s got some lovely detailing so you wont get bored of it. If you can afford to part with this much cash, I recommend going for something like this as you’ll definitely get your money’s worth in future winters and it will pay for itself in the attention you get. Available from Brown’s.
