Banana Republic launches Mad Men range (US only for now though)

By Stefano on February 28th, 2013

Ever wanted to dress like Don Draper and his dapper Madison Avenue chums? Well now you can – sort of. Banana Republic has just launched a range of Mad Men inspired clothing in the US for both men and women which was created by the series costume designer Janie Bryant. Given fashion’s current yen for all things black and white and stripey you might have expected a few more op art type items in the range. But nope, in keeping with BR’s image the range is classy, reasonably well priced and rather conservative. The women’s stuff with its geometric prints and loud stripes is loads better.

I do however like the blue suit, though would have liked an extra button, and it works well with that tie. Not too sure about some of the range but you can make your mind up.

Nice Fedora hat though.

There’s even more here. It might make it to the UK – keep an eye on the website.

Seersucker wins out as fabric for Spring/Summer

By Colin Chapman on May 5th, 2009

seersucker.jpgSeersucker is big with the Brandish team and Matthew Willamson‘s quite lovely seersucker striped suit, as Isabelle highlighted last week, is likely to make awareness of this fabric an all-time high. But what makes it such an ideal summer fabric? Wikipedia (as ever) explains all: the weaving process ’causes some threads to bunch together, this wrinkled appearance causes the fabric to be mostly held away from the skin’, keeping you cool and meaning no ironing is necessary. Result!

So what are your options? I bought a pair of slim, white/grey needle stripe pants at Banana Republic in the US last year, a great staple, they’re available here at the Regent Street store. For a darker take on summery seersucker, B-store’s, black pleated pants are now on sale at ASOS. Finally, this vibrant, Madras check shirt also at ASOS puts a bright spin on the traditionally subtle stripe.

Paul Hamill describes himself as “student, stylist, blogger, writer and retail assistant”, we invited him to give us his picks for this summer and he came good with a selection of staples that will make a good addition to any man’s wardrobe:

Summer in Glasgow is always a risky affair. Thankfully I met my American flat mate who invited me to stay at her family home in Seattle for a few weeks this summer. My saviour! And with this blissful invite comes the summer wardrobe shop.
