Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been turning up the heat on the eve of the Manchester derby. The former United striker has told the BBC that Manchester City are like a “little brother” who will never take their “big brother’s” place.
In a statement sure to wind up City fans even further Solskjaer said,: “It’s always this thing about being the big brother and the little brother coming to try to overtake the big brother. “That always happens in families and in clubs – the young player hoping to take the old player’s position – and City are hoping to overtake United. I don’t think they’ll ever be able to.”
Solskjaer, who scored 126 goals in 366 appearances for United is currently of Norwegian champions Molde, yet has been consistently linked with managerial positions in the Premiership.
The former player argues that United have a resilience about them which will see them continue to improve as the season develops.
Although both Manchester teams are at the top of the Premiership, neither has been especially impressive this season. United have conceded a lot of goals and have been forced to rely on Robin Van Perise’ amazing form to keep them on track in a similar way he rescued Arsenal’s season last year.
Meanwhile City remain unbeaten at home but have been inconsistent on their travels. They also now don’t have the distraction of the Champions League. Yet most bookies have United has favourites.
So what do you think? Is Solskjaer right?

This year’s Red Nose Day campaign is in full-swing and everyone from Fearne Cotton to Fern Britten is doing something funny for money. Dom Joly, the comic-genius and all-round bon viveur behind Trigger Happy TV, has joined the show Comic Relief show ‘Let’s Dance’ and last Saturday we saw him imitate the style and dance of the infamous MC Hammer.
To achieve the Hammer-style, Joly donned a pair of rather hideous Harem pants in the ever-popular gold lamé. Add chains, hi-tops and logo-print headbands and you have yourself a RND look. Remember, everyone loves the funny man!
Why not do something for Comic Relief yourself?

Radio DJ Chris Evans is the proud father of new-born son Noah and he has taken to his BBC blog to reveal pictures of his baby. Evans told readers of his BBC Radio Two blog that the new born child is “a little belter” and explains that “I know everyone says that about their own but he really is a bit special.” How adorable!
Evans married wife Natasha Shishmanian, a golf instructor, in 2007 and the ginger DJ has previously gone out with Billie Piper.
Congratulations from the Brandish team!

British fashion she be a wild and confusing beast, luckily the BBC (and I mean the real BBC- voice of a nation the British Broadcasting Corporation) has created a website that carves up British Fashion into 5 manageable chunks. Surprisingly this guide is actually really good and though 5 sections may not seem like enough to cover the whole gamut of British fashion it has done the job quite nicely, linking many different styles together with cultural and social references.
Check out the BBC’s British Style Genius site and find out how your style is categorised by the good old Beeb.

Beautiful People, Simon Doonan‘s memoirs about growing up in Reading amongst his eccentric family have been made into a BBC series. which will start
The New York-based window dresser has come a long way from his beginnings in a cork factory. He moved down to London in search of glamour and glitz and was soon creating windows for Aquascutum and Nutters of Savile Row. Before long an invite to LA to dress windows came up: ” I didn’t even question it and before I knew it I was on a plane. I hadn’t been to America before, but I moved there. I was 25, and it was the best thing I ever did.”
Beautiful People starts on the 2nd of October on BBC2

In previous months, I have reported on the possibility that maybe Brandish is read by major celebrities. We preempted Russell Brand’s short shorts, the change in mood of Mr Mill’s Style Column in the Sunday Time’s Style Magazine and now, it appears that our editor Isabelle may have inspired Coldplay frontman Chris Martin’s new haircut. Days after Isabelle claimed skinhead-inspired film ‘This Is England’ as style inspiration, Chris Martin has appeared at a BBC Radio 2 song session with his previously curly locks shaved off. Simple chance or Sartorial steal?
Anyway, what do you think of this new look? Continue reading to vote in our poll.

On Monday night, a new show began on BBC4. It involved bitterness, plotting, anger and plenty of drama but fear not, we are not witnessing the creation of yet another reality TV special but instead the tailor’s tales of Savile Row. This program is focused mainly on the reaction of the street’s traditional shop-owners to the recently launched Abercrombie & Fitch store and their anger at the putting of such an erotically-charged and teen-aimed brand on a street associated with the world’s most exquisite tailors and finest males. It’s strangely amusing to see the bitchiness of these “gentleman’s gentlemen” and it’ll be no time before you’ve been drawn into the high street high jinks and silent catfights. So sit down, pick a side and stick to it – unless you are willing to incur the wrath of the scary-looking shop assistant who seems to spend his entire working day peering out of the window.
BBC4 9:00pm Monday Nights. Watch Online at BBC.co.uk
