There is definitely something debonair about the A|X Armani Exchange Autumn 2011 collection. A mix of blazers, plaid shirts, vests and jackets with elbow patches it looks like they’ve taken inspiration from the British gentry. Then again, the leather jacket and red outfit (see gallery below) brings the mind to more indie/rock so perhaps we’re mistaken.
As part of the A|XX 20th anniversary celebrations this year, A|X Armani Exchange teamed up with one of the UK’s top dance labels, Toolroom Knights, and has since July hosted a series of Saturday afternoon DJ sessions in their stores nationwide. The collaboration is coming to an end on 17th December, so if you want to indulge in some tunes spun by the latest and newest music talent check out the A|X Facebook page or visit the DJ Residency Series website for more info before it’s too late.

While potentially worrying and probably not at all a good sign, Andy Warhol’s ‘Death Scenes’ have always interested me. His principle was that by repeating the same image of a man impaled on a lamp-post (that’s just one of the prints,) death became strangely banal. This blazer might not be all blood ‘n’ guts (which with McQueen’s history is rather surprising,) but it is undeniably interesting. With city scenes and a fitted shape, this jacket could be worn at work, in the park, at a party and even to a music festival. I like that Matches put it with jeans for a modern edge and if I could afford the £258 price tag, I would go for a crisp white shirt and an Alber Elbaz-style floppy bow-tie. In faded, purple velvet. *Sigh*

Lining has been an interesting part of blazers for a while now, with inventive designers using it to showcase a contrasting colour or pattern. Comme Des Garçons have gone one step further with this lining print of an anime-like boxer. It’s the kind of the lining that seriously makes you consider walking around in the same pose the models doing above. You can get this from the usual outlets once they start stocking the A/W collections.

Looking at this picture makes me empathize with Metallica fans who watched ‘Some Kind of Monster‘. It’s the moment you realize that someone you previously idolized is just a person – and one with terrible style.
At 6 foot 7, it’s a miracle Michael Jordan can find oversized clothes in the first place, let alone a blazer so big it looks like a hand-me-down. And to add to the misery, his jeans are dragging against the floor. You’ll have to watch Space Jam sixty times to erase this memory.

This portrait of a F.I.T student in New York magazine’s look book isn’t technically a short suit, it’s a blazer with shorts – but it’s close enough. We’ve seen a multitude of badly worn short suits lately but this one is a lot closer to looking good than the rest. For starters the top half is great – nicely tailored blazer, great shirt and nice use of colour with the tie. The bottom half, however, is a different story.
For starters his short shorts are too wide, and make his legs look like matchsticks. But the socks are really what kill the outfit for me. But enough of my opinion, what do you think? Take the poll after the jump and let me know if you reckon this chap finally got the short suit right.

The rise of the cardigan has surely sounded the death knell for the blazer and jeans look. A few years ago a blazer looked edgy but it’s now only worn by sloaney types, especially with distressed and ripped bootcut jeans, which surely are a confection of the devil. The cardigan offers a much leaner, modern silhouette; it’s a natural partner for skinny or slim jeans and can be dressed up with smart trousers and a slim tie. Simon Amstell does this look perfectly, teaming a dark cardie with a
floral shirt, or choosing various tones of khaki and olive green for an
eye-pleasing cardigan, tie and shirt combo. I’ve come up with two cardigan outfits so if you are one of the few people who haven’t purchased a cardigan there won’t be any excuse not to. See after the jump for images and product links.
