The Clothes Show kicked off today and over at CQ we were left wondering what Katie Price had in mind for her equestrian bikini.
Also at the Clothes Show was TV and radio presenter George Lamb, normally his style errs the wrong side of indie, but he looked quite fetching in a taupe jacket with a gorgeous mustard silk tie. He seems to be positioning himself as a bit of a menswear expert. Would you take fashion advice from George Lamb? take our poll and let us know!
The tie-obsessed Alexander Olch recently invited Todd Selby into his home to snap the man behind the ties in his natural habitat.
It’s a cluttered, messy place but not without charm and proves that creative people do need lots of ‘stuff’ around them. Phew, that lets me off the hook! Looking through the images of his New York home it’s easy to spot why Olch is such a meticulously obsessive character, especially when it comes to neckwear. Watch him show you how to tie a bow tie here.
The other day I posted an alternative to the bow tie .. and here’s another. The kerchief worn as necktie adds a jaunty, hipster edge to your shirt collar. There are several ways to knot, consider your personal style and what you’re wearing it with. Ideally find something vintage. Silk always looks dashing or use that spotted pocket square you’ve never had a use for.
A recent Facehunter post shows this accessory idea off to stunning effect though it’s something that The Sartorialist has also featured before, and can even be spotted in current Uniqlo window styling.
So take a break from Christmas shopping and dig out that gem. But be advised to go for subtlety in colour and proportion: unless you really ARE channeling Quentin Crisp.
The Antony Price collection (click here to see the gallery) made its Topman debut on Friday and although I haven’t been instore yet I’m keen to see how it’s selling.
There’s a good selection of quality suiting and some quirky accessories like the eye print tie and the purple bow tie which will lend a little character to your outfit without quite being on the Tazmanian Devil/Homer Simpson novelty sock level of kook.
Andre Benjamin (also known as Andre 3000) is taking part in the latest ‘Declare Yourself’ campaign which urges American youths to cast their vote as to who should be the next President of their country. Christina Aguilera and Jessica Alba also star in the campaign but it’s Andre’s image that has caught my attention.
Gagged with one of his own bow-ties, the campaign tells that “only you can silence yourself.”
Big Brother’s Little Brother (BBLB) presenters have a tradition for being rather cool fellows and after the likes of Dermot O’Leary and Russell Brand, George Lamb is the latest man to be lighting our screens with his look. Take a look at the screencap (left) from a recent episode of BBLB; the cropped and turned up trousers, the worn-in brogues, the grey (still a key colour) and the Alber Elbaz-inspired bow-tie.
Topped off by the same messy but manicured hair that catapulted the likes of Bob Geldof to style icon status, Lamb has the foundations of an up ‘n’ coming sartorial institution.
