Sponsored video: Snoop and lion introduce adidas Space Diver trainers to Foot Locker

By shinychris on September 6th, 2012

Well Prince did it. And now it seems that Snoop – real name Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. – has done it. The artist formerly known as Snoop Doggy Dog, then Snoop Dogg, wants to be known from this day forward as Snoop Lion after undergoing a spiritual rebirth during a stay in Jamaica.

In this video, we see Snoop – wearing his adidas Chile 62 tracksuit – along with his giant dreadlocked Lion introduce adidas’ latest Space Diver trainers from the top of a very tall Foot Locker building – as you do.

Inspired by basketball, these hi-top trainers feature a unique reversible strap and are available in two different colour ways: navy with pops of green and accents of silver leather; or white/blue/red in bold white leather with pops of red and blue.

The Space Diver trainers line will be available exclusively at Foot Locker stores from this month while the next products in the line up are set to be a windbreaker jacket (in black or grey) and a Chile 62 jacket track top in black nylon.

Want to win a pair of Space Diver trainers? Well adidas and Foot Locker have three pairs a day to give away to those who tweet about how they would them feel using the hashtag #inmyspacedivers. For more information about the competition visit http://unr.ly/PYphXb

You can see Snoop Lion introduce the Space Divers in this video below:

Brandish’s Twitter feed disappears

By admin on June 24th, 2012

Apologies to those of you who have emailed and phoned to say that they are no longer able to receive Brandish’s Twitter feed (@brandish). Unfortunately the feed which provided all of Brandish’s news updates and exclusive content until last week seems to have mysteriously disappeared, along with thousands of followers.

It is currently being operated by Mr Amey Alshi. Alshi, a product marketing executive with printing company Duplo International – and ‘social media fanatic’ – has absolutely no connection with Shiny Media or our Brandish website at all.

He claims to have legally obtained the address a day before we initially reported the issue to Twitter.

We are currently working with Twitter and our lawyers to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and hope to resume normal Twitter service very soon.

Top 5: Fashion Glasses

By shinychris on February 4th, 2010

Phrases like ‘geek chic’ shouldn’t be thrown around lightly, but when it comes to completely unnecessary accessories, you can call me a geek all you like. For other out and proud nerds, here are some of the most un-cool glasses around which, rather ironically, will make you a lot cooler than everyone else.

Trend Transition… Eyebrow-Free Faces?!

By wreid on July 17th, 2009

eyebrows.jpgBack when she started out, Karen Elson had her eyebrows infamously off-ed at the suggestion of Steven Meisel. She catapulted to international fame fronting high-fashion campaigns and covers from W magazine to Italian Vogue. All this would suggest that the loss of one’s eyebrows is actually rather beneficial- a debate being started over on the Daily Mail website. In the latest Givenchy advert, model Adriana Lima shows off a pair of bleached brows and the Daily Mail is as always on the attack.

Unfortunately for my now traumatised retinas, the newspaper made up a few of Britain’s biggest stars without eyebrows (image above.) I’m not a fan; waking up without eyebrows would be one of my worst nightmares. I can understand that on someone staggeringly beautiful and Elson-esque, a lack of eyebrows would only increase allure. However, this is most definitely one trend I pray does not make the leap from womenswear to menswear. Let’s leave it to the models!

Yay or Nay: Will you Gilet it this Winter?

By wreid on July 13th, 2009

wings-horns-fall-winter-2009-collection-20.jpgWinter is often a season of necessity versus beauty. Unless one has enough in his wallet to buy a piece like this Alexander McQueen (a cool £1,095,) fashionistos are left to settle for cheap and not always stylish alternatives. The gilet (or body-warmer) is a fickle fashion item and this season it has been made-up in enticing chambray by label Wings + Horns.

Gilets often look awful; after all, the Michelin Man-look has never suited anyone. However, when worn over-sized and unzipped with skinny jeans and leather brogues, your padded-tube of fabric becomes the key component of a high-fashion look.

I would say ‘Yay’ to the idea of a gilet- simply follow Brandish’s style advice and you’ll be looking awesome anyway!

By Kimberley Foster on June 29th, 2009

From our womenswear blog, Catwalk Queen

As tributes for Michael Jackson continue to pour in, Sir Paul Smith made the ultimate gesture to the late King of Pop during his closing menswear show in Paris yesterday. The British designer danced his way down the catwalk to Jackson’s iconic “Thriller,” together with his light-footed models. It was a happy and celebratory moment as the audience clapped and bopped along. Catch sight of grey-haired Paul getting down to MJ by clicking play on the video above – fun!

Top 5: Skinny Summer Ties

By Will Reid on May 27th, 2009

toybreaker silk caviar tie bsd.jpgThe Times has a feature at the moment detailing the changing size of the common tie as we go through decades of economic change. Apparently John Lewis has announced “a dramatic inch-loss of nearly 25 per cent in width over the past six months” with its most popular ties. Charlie Allen, the famous tailor Brandish recently had an exclusive sit-down with over the new ‘n’ improved England kit, told the Times that “the impact of economic turmoil on tie design can be traced back through the previous recessions of the 20th century. While postwar Britain and the Swinging Sixties embraced exaggerated prints and widths of up to 5in, the downturns of the 1930s and 1980s saw sizes reduce to as little as an inch.”

See after the jump for my Top 5 ‘Skinny Summer ties’- on the cheap for your enjoyment! (They’re all under £10)

Woody Allen vs. American Apparel: Dov, Drama and $5 million!

By Will Reid on May 19th, 2009

photo09.jpgWhen American Apparel president Dov Charney tells the press that he’s “not sorry of expressing myself,” it usually means that he has done something involving hip fashion, knee-high socks and models who are dubiously dewy-skinned. However, in this case, Charney is responding to reports over his recent legal battle with infamous director Woody Allen over American Apparel billboards featuring a screen-cap from Allen’s well-known film, ‘Annie Hall.’ The ads showed Allen in Rabbi clothing and the director has stated that he did not give any permission for the image to be used. Originally asking for $10 million, Allen was today awarded half of that for the supposed damage the ads have done to his reputation (?!)

Let’s just say that if American Apparel wanted to put up a billboard featuring a picture of me I wouldn’t be complaining!

How far is TOO far? Taking inspiration from Womenswear…

By Will Reid on May 12th, 2009

IMG_8378.jpgOver the last few years, with the trends having covered skinny jeans, unisex mods, sexually-liberated hippies, shoulder pads, guy/girl jumpsuits and the his/her Eighties where basically anything went, I have tried my hand at many trends that tread the fine line between menswear and womenswear.

This photo recently appeared on Facehunter and, while originally in awe of this fashionisto’s rose accessory, I began to wonder if it would be one step too far and throw me into the realm of uncomfortable dressing (a fatal flaw when it comes to styling!) I happily carry a man-bag and have even experimented with Guyliner in recent months but I couldn’t be sure that I would feel okay with an accessory like the one above. Would you be willing too wear something so overtly feminine or do you like to stick within the traditional fashion sex boundaries?

Stella McCartney Menswear? Yes, Please!

By Will Reid on May 8th, 2009

stellamenswearSince turning up at the Met’s Costume Institute Gala with a trinity of her Hollywood girlfriends, Stella McCartney has had a whirlwind week involving everyone from Simon Doonan (creative director of Barneys) to Michelle Obama.

While chatting to the gloriously over-the-top Doonan, Stella was asked about lending her ethical hand to a menswear collection. “Yes, I would love to!”- so what can we expect? I’m hoping for vegan-leather brogues and penny loafers, baggy suit jackets, chunky patterned knits for men, modern shapes and shirts in innovative fabrics.

McCartney, herself, spoke recently about her love of menswear: “I’ve always been a bit obsessed with men’s tailoring. When I was in St. Martins, I’d take time out at night and go work on Savile Row. I was always influenced by my mum and dad’s wardrobe and they always had really cool bespoke suits.”

I can’t wait! (Just no lace jumpsuits, please!)

Brandish Poll: The Met, the Models, the Mess! Keifer Sutherland and Jack McCullough Brawl?

By Will Reid on May 7th, 2009

brandishtees.jpgIn the aftermath of the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute Gala, fashionistos/as across the world have been gorging over that turban, Madonna’s wackiness, Rihanna’s brilliant tux and Naomi’s beautiful boycott. However, it emerged today that off the red carpet a fight was on and statements are being made across the fashion universe in response to reports that Proenza Schouler’s Jack McCullough was headbutt by 24′s Keifer Sutherland after McCullough supposedly knocked Brooke Shields over.

Surely not, I hear you cry. But yes, McCullough’s rep has confirmed today that “anyone who knows Jack McCollough knows that he would not hurt a fly…all we can say at this point is that he was the victim of a vicious, violent, unprovoked assault and that the matter is in the hands of the authorities.” How delightful!

The question stands- are you Team McCullough or Team Sutherland?
