Bobby Grindrod on dressing dandy

By Isabelle on March 22nd, 2007

Bobbygrindrod

Bobby Grindrod of Friends of the Bride was telling the Metro this morning about his love of dressing smart and dandyism. "I look at record covers mainly from the early ’70s" he said "They’re my influences, really; people such as Frank Sinatra and Bobby Gentry". The trendy young thing used to be a mod but found the rules of the dress code a bit too strict. He now prefers to stcik to the dandy style saying "It’s easy to be a dandy but much harder to be subtle about having that sort of strict style".

Ginch Gonch underwear

By Isabelle on March 21st, 2007

Ginchgonchpants

Ginch Gonch do undies for men and women; I’ve had to censor the picture on the left as the size of the model’s thighs is frankly obscene. Do they offer free steroids with their pants or what? Anyway their range is quite fun and kitsch and includes ‘Jolly Cocks’, ‘Wiener Eater’, and ‘Red Bandana’ prints; the Red Bandana is presumably a reference to the hankie code where it can mean fist fucker, shaver, or furry bear. Crikey! Anyway I like the argyle pants with their cool assortment of colours and retro styling plus they’re only $27 dollars, gotta do something about the menacing male models though…

Mihara Yasuhiro for Puma

By Isabelle on March 21st, 2007

Mihara
Japanese designer Yasuhiro Mihara’s latest collaboration with Puma throws up some pretty interesting things. Psychedelic patterns, gold leather, studs and rivet details gives your everyday sneaks an out-of-the-ordinary touch. Mihara also has his own shop in Japan, called Sosu (prime number) selling men’s and women’s clothing and accessories. My favourites from the Puma collection are the reptilian MY-25, they’ve got a fetishy touch but are kind of geeky at the same time. Fetish-geek, now there’s a new look!

David Beckham strikes a pose for Adidas

By Isabelle on March 21st, 2007

Davidbeckham
Blaps! David Beckham’s new pictures for a campaign for Adidas makes him look like a wannabe gangster rapper, but more Vanilla Ice than Eminem. Don’t you think his leg looks really hairy? This is probably an attempt to rebrand him for the American market, ahead of his multi-million-dollar move to join ‘soccer’ team L.A. Galaxy this summer. Safe blud etc.

Lazy Oaf tourist tee

By Isabelle on March 20th, 2007

Lazyoaftee
Lazy oaf have got a heck of a lot of cool t-shirts. My favourite is their snap happy tee, kind of like a new version of the tux tee it makes you dressed for business in about 30 seconds. Perfect for wearing with lemon yellow shorts and old sneakers for a retro tourist look. They also have sweatshirts, socks, belts and the a card that says "I like you nearly as much as crisps".

Become a male model, or the object of ridicule

By Isabelle on March 20th, 2007

Boyss

Fancy being a model? The London Paper is running a competition to find a male model, you must send a head shot and full-length body shot to their email address. The competition closes at midnight tonight, so make your you get those pics ready in time. At Shiny Towers we loved the guy with his collar up, doesn’t he realise he looks like Prince William or some other boneheaded royal? Alas that is probably the point. We also like the Russell Brand-a-like, but our favourite by far was the Brian from Spaced-a-like who decided to pose with his gran! You can tell by some of the pictures that they’ve been sent in by well meaning girlfriends and joker friends, so go on, have a peek!

Umbro by Kim Jones

By Isabelle on March 20th, 2007

Kimjonesumbro

Umbro must be looking to move away from their beer boy image with their collaboration with Kim Jones. Understandably so, as the usual stuff is a bit naff, but the Kim Jones collections are fresh and cater for a range of styles. My favourite items from his A/W 07 collections are the wetlook windcheaters, I’m a bit obsessed with that fabric. I’m a bit disappointed that some of the shoes still look like those classic plastic market trainers, and not in a good way, but one step at a time I suppose. You can get your hands on their clothes at Urban Outfitters and Selfridges across the UK

Men and tweezers

By Isabelle on March 19th, 2007

Healy
Over at See Jack Shop he is discussing eyebrow grooming, but I’m not so sure that UK men are that up for some magnifying mirror and tweezer action. I’ve seen Japanese men with shaved eyebrows but apart from a few averted monobrow massacres and uber-gay men who also wear foundation you don’t see many groomed eyebrows. I can understand some careful snipping if you’ve got Healy-tastic eyebrows (see left), do you pluck your eyebrows?

Fly ‘Flag’ boot on sale at Kurt Geiger

By Isabelle on March 19th, 2007

Fly_boot
I have a soft sport for Fly shoes, and at the moment Kurt Geiger have got some Fly Flag boots reduced to £45. It’s different without being try-hard, I like the utilitarian rubber heel and toe which is offset by the red stitching and golden suede. I also like the way they have a nostalgic feel without being to retro or costumey. Kurt Geiger have only got sizes 41, 42, and 43 left so best get your skates on if you love them as much as I do.

David Beckham to be face of L’Oreal haircare?

By Isabelle on March 19th, 2007

Davidbeckham
David Beckham has been reportedly offered a £10 million contract to be the face L’Oreal. Selling hair products will no doubt enhance his status in LA where he’s playing in Los Angeles Galaxy. It won’t be the first time David Beckham has lent his famous name to advertising, he has also been associated with Gillette and Brylcreem, and has appeared in the US for a ‘Got Milk’ campaign, left.

Joystick Junkies Space Invader tee

By Isabelle on March 15th, 2007

Joysticktee
Joystick Junkies’ Space Invader tee is a brilliant way to pledge your allegiance to all things pixel-related. The design comes in a nifty foil print on a black ultrasoft tee. The company have got tons more computer/arcade game related tees and hoodies, so if Space Invaders wasn’t your thing you could sport for example, a 720 or Sensible Soccer tee.

Russell Crowe kits out footie players in Armani

By Isabelle on March 15th, 2007

Rabitohs
Russell Crowe’s Australian rugby team "The South Sydney Rabbitohs" will now travel to matches in Armani tailor-made suits designed to "pick up on the team’s rich history." The gruff Australian has tried to update the team’s image by making games more family friendly, and hopes these new new suits will make the players feel like the business. He said: "there can be no better way to arrive for matches than standing tall and feeling confident because of Giorgio Armani’s magic". The team debut their new suits on the 16th. Armani said: "Russell Crowe does not call often and when he does, it is usually about something very important. For me sportsmen are
like modern day gladiators and because they have to show real
dedication and skill they are an inspiration for all of us.
