Forgive that awful title but let me explain; Executive Item Execution (EIE) is the official ruin of an ever-so-stylish item as the result of a figure of authority telling you they have the same piece (and no, this has nothing to do with the fetish trend.)
Here on Brandish we love a bit of sartorial realism. While Jason deals with cool buys and indie-labels, I tend to veer towards the bright lights of magazines and the high-octane glamour of ridiculously expensive items (WISHLIST anyone?) and the glossy adverts they inhabit.
I do love the high-street and so, with editor’s camera in hand and a trusty phone in the other (who knows what pickle one could get into asking for photos on the streets of Camden?) I set off to find London’s fashionistos.
We’ve made you endure some pretty terrible things on Brandish (see here and here,) and now I present a sneaky snap of New Look’s new adjust-a-length jeans. The trick is you have to button up each different level of the jean depending on what you’re after; shorts, the semi-crop, full jeans or the button-embellished. Is it just me who gasps at this fashion indictment?
“Oh golly gosh- that looks like it may be over 100ml. Oops for you!” *Grab* “Now, do you know how to reschedule a flight?” “I’d like to say that the dragon-lady at Gatwick had spoiled my day by treating me like a dumb blonde (brunette guy by the way!) but it was truly ruined when she took my new Korres products.
Last night I went to see ‘Batman: The Dark Knight’ at a small, local film-house. The queues trailed out of the cinema and down the street- surely a first for such a small-scale cinema. Bearing in mind that this cinema sits in the middle of a village that doesn’t exactly boast of a youthful population, I knew there must be some reason they were flocking to watch a super-hero film. That reason is Heath Ledger.
VMAN has just released a preview of their next issue (VMAN 11) and by the looks of this preview editorial, ‘Suit Yourself,’ it is going to be incredible. Reflecting V Magazine’s ‘The Women’ editorial, which took rich photography and a classic country manor to project an image of high-society living, this editorial tells a nostalgic story of traditional tailoring with almost grainy photography used to stunning effects.
Just two weeks ago, Brandish reviewed the first edition of the Sunday Times Style Magazine’s ‘Mr Mills’ menswear and style column. I decided that Mills needed to brighten up a bit and make the column a little more cheery and summer-inclined if he was to hold the attention of readers. Well, call me egotistical, but is it pure coincidence that the latest edition of the column featured pieces on swim trunks, sunglasses, lime green hair oil and bright-coloured ties?
As Beckham’s ‘people’ deny he’s been at all enhanced in the Armani pants department and Matt McConaughey is seen in D&G ads being hounded for his bod, it occurs to me that more than ever we men are striving for physical perfection.
More and more I am left sulking at lunch as male friends tell me they are banned from certain foods and no, before you ask, they’re not all gay. Or vain.
