They say facial beauty is all about symmetry, don’t they? In which case, these asymmetrical specs will be perfect for the remaining, ugly 95% of the population.
Yeah, if you’re not residing in our nation’s capital you might want to skip this one. Soz.
Now this is something you can be fairly sure nobody else in the pub will be sporting.

Thom Browne and Tom Ford are without a doubt two of Brandish’s favourite designers and so imagine my surprise when I got e-mailed this article from the New York Times. It compares the work of both men and includes such literary gems as “The Tom Ford man is an Anglicized gloss on Hollywood style, while Thom Browne’s designs evoke the hipness of eternal adolescence” and Tom Ford’s brilliant definition of masculininty; “to be masculine is to fuse the debonair cut of a Savile Row suit with the swagger of a star from 1970s pornography.”
I made the Brandish team answer this rather sadistic question and you can see their (unwilling) answers after the jump.
What a surreal start to the week- trawling Topman for a Monday Morning boost, I was hoping for a few print t-shirts but instead discovered the horror of the new ‘Premium High Waist Slim Jeans.‘ Yes, that’s right; after drop-crotch and MC Hammer (I don’t actually want to touch this) denim, we are being given the chance to try out the latest jean trend. The high waist has failed to get women on side à la skinny jeans simply because they are impossible to wear. In indigo, 100% cotton and selling for £45, I am left wondering if it is really worth the risk. What do you think?
See our poll after the jump.
Resort season is always a bit of a drag for me; overly-frivolous (yes I see the haute-couture irony) and just another season to get my head around, the jump from Calvin Klein to cruise is always too much for me. I was losing faith and Karl Lagerfeld’s show was nauseatingly frilly that the sight of a male model in pink tie-dye with quilted interlocking-Cs was enough to finish me off.
At Radio 1’s Big Weekend this weekend, the line-up was that of a rather well-dressed bunch of bands. Madonna excluded. Looking at the photos from this Maidstone extravaganza of fun and frolicking, Irwin Sparks of The Hoosiers stood out as a Brandish-reading sartorialist.
Being boring, tired and suffering from a slight addiction to Russell Brand meant that I spent most of last night in front of the TV watching a double whammy of my favourite shows. Yes, for those who missed it, last night saw The Friday Night Project (with Gok Wan) and Jonathan Ross (with Russell Brand and Ashton Kutcher) provide an excuse for home imprisonment across the UK.
You might have noticed a new addition to Brandish, we’ve added a Twitter feed where we will be posting our sartorial musings.
As you can tell we’ve been listening to the Poetic Poet’s web design rapping (it’s a piece of genius!) and we’ve given Brandish a bit of a redesign complete with a new logo. Do leave us a comment and let us know what you think!
From Marc Jacobs to Topman, McQ to Uniqlo, short shorts have undoubtedly secured their place as the menswear item of the season – and possibly the year. If I said they needed an adopter than we at Brandish are basically an orphanage. We have given you examples of short shorts in a spectrum of colours, fabrics and prints and Jason even took it to a political platform!
Over at Shiny Towers we’re looking for a part-time writer for Brandish. As you may have noticed since the departure of our beloved Tim things just haven’t been the same round here.
Check out Shiny Media’s Christmas Present to you, part of our top 100 Fashion and Lifestyle blogs which we’re working on across our sites is the menswear top ten. Here they are in no particular order, enjoy!
Sales are great. Sales at places which are already pretty damn cheap are even better. So the Uniqlo sale is the betterest sale going, pretty much.
Boy, those moustached fellas don’t miss a trick.
If I could grow a moustache, I would. And I imagine I’d become obsessed with it. I would nurture it like I would a pet.
This may be old news, but over the weekend I saw two adverts starring guys from Lost.
This week Brandish and Catwalk Queen are featuring street style pictures from Brighton’s Great Escape music festival.
Topman have got a sale on, and even though you’ll usually find me in Topshop looking at the dresses and shoes I ventured downstairs and picked up a lovely shirt for a mere tenner.
I think I’ve fallen in love. These Paul Smith summer pumps combine brogue detailing with summery denim and colourful eyelets; although he had me at the brogue detailing.
