On Jak et Jil they’re agog over a pair of Givenchy ghillie brogues with added buckles, lacing and straps. Ghillie brogues are worn by bagpipers, members of marching bands and are an essential part of Highland dress; I’ve always loved the contrast between the feminine lacing and the masculine brogue. I like what Richardo Tisci has done with the classic shoe, and with a careful bit of crafting you could easily recreate the look.
Loake do a great ghillie brogue, but if you pick up a pair intended for marching they will have a thicker sole which is a footwear trend making waves in menswear at the moment.

Big Brother’s Little Brother (BBLB) presenters have a tradition for being rather cool fellows and after the likes of Dermot O’Leary and Russell Brand, George Lamb is the latest man to be lighting our screens with his look. Take a look at the screencap (left) from a recent episode of BBLB; the cropped and turned up trousers, the worn-in brogues, the grey (still a key colour) and the Alber Elbaz-inspired bow-tie.
Topped off by the same messy but manicured hair that catapulted the likes of Bob Geldof to style icon status, Lamb has the foundations of an up ‘n’ coming sartorial institution.

Clothing, Designer Spotlight, Sales

In case you’ve been too lazy to scroll down the page, this is the second post of Matches sale items, this time focusing on Paul Smith.
Cobalt blue cardigan (£78): Cobalt blue is a great spring/summer colour and will make you stand out in a sea of grey cardigans.
Brown brogues (£165): Everyone needs a pair of brogues as they make any outfit much sharper. Round toe shoes are also a lot more grown up than the ‘I wish I played in the Horrors’ pointy toe look.
Brown leather bag (£188): I’m not even sure why I like this so much, but there’s something very charming about this bag.

If you missed the bulk of the Topman sale (and if you’re just finding out now, you’ve definitely missed it) then ASOS have a sale that hasn’t sold out yet. Although it might have by the time you’ve finished reading this sentence. If you haven’t realised, Time is of the essence when it comes to sales.

Attention! Silver shoes, people! Don’t you just wish you were a lady shoe so you could be these bad boys’ bitch? No? Don’t lie!
I think these are just pure hotness. Nice job Neil Barrett. I love the scalloped edges and the perforated leather, which make for a very modern take on the classic brogue. And the attention to detail seems exceptional – witness the single horizontal bar tack stitch just below the laces. And, of course, they’re silver. Just try and stop me from matching them with a silver belt. They’ve not been shipped yet but they’ll be available soon from Yoox.

Huggy Bear, Snoop Dogg, Andre 3000; no matter how old you are, there has always been that outrageously cool, pimped-out personality. In the latest issue of L’Uomo Vogue, Snoop Dogg gets kitted out in clothes fit for a street legend.
Purple velvet suits, golf-check trousers and the obligatory afro complete the look but despite its eccentric ingredients can, if styled correctly, make up an approaching trend that can be woven into your wardrobe. Take some wide-leg trousers, a pair of brogues, a patterned jumper and a bold shirt as a starting point. Accessorise with elaborate ties, belts and a fabric-blend bowler bag for a strong look, see after the jump for image and product details.
NOTE: using words that you imagine to be street lingo (you know the ones) will in no way add to this look.

Office have got a sale on, and you’ll be able to snap up some bargains like these lovely Oxford brogues, reduced to £45 from £110. The leather tab/lace detail is an amusing remider of those horrible chunky metal boots which have a hole in the heel through which you thread your lace. One you’ve finished being amused by the tab detail, you can be enthralled by the swirling brogue punch leather, reminiscent of the Mr Men.

Mmm I love brogues, I own five pairs of brogue or brogue-inspired shoes, they’re the business. Church’s, Loake and John Lobb all make fabulous traditional brogues but if you’re going down the designer route Paul Smith is your man. These shoes have been aged using a dip dye method, but if you want to achieve the same effect on a pair of standard brogues simply polish with a shoe cream or polish a shade darker than the shoe. These hand crafted brogues will set you back £229.99, but with the love of a good cobbler they need never wear out.

I think I’ve fallen in love. These Paul Smith summer pumps combine brogue detailing with summery denim and colourful eyelets; although he had me at the brogue detailing. A great casual shoe for summer that will smarten up the simplest outfit and are fairly reasonable at £80. I’m not sure you get away with wearing jeans with these, you might run the risk of looking like a denim dream! Just as well they also come in plain white canvas.
