Sorel Fall/Winter 2011 Collection

By Laura on August 4th, 2011

Growing up in Canada, winter boots were probably the most important part of your fall/winter wardrobe. So it always shocks me that come winter here no one seems to have appropriate footwear. After talking to a few people, I have come to the conclusion it is because most men believe that proper winter boots can’t be fashionable.

Well guess what…. you’re wrong.

Sorel was originally founded by William H. Kaufman Inc. in Kitchener Waterloo, Ontario, Canada (where I went to uni), and have been associated with the development of durable, comfortable cold-weather footwear since 1908.

In many ways they are the Canadian version on Hunter boots… and have created a loyal following by taking functional forms and making them stylish. Sorel has just revealed their Fall ‘11 collection and the Mad Boot Lace is a perfect example of this.

Inspired by the Mad Men of the 50’s and the Sorel Pro Flex of the 80’s, the Mad Series is water-resistant and made from full grain leather. As usual they have done a brilliant job combining iconic elements from their past and reintroducing it in a modern yet functional design.

From the North with Love by Stussy

By Laura on May 17th, 2011

Here is another collection I wish was available in the UK. Stussy Canada has drawn upon the history of the West Coast and the First Nations culture there, to create a special capsule dubbed “From the North with Love.” The collection includes tees, sweats and special woven shirts which represent the perfect layering components for Canadian weather.
Unfortunately for us though the collection is only available through Stussy in Vancouver and Toronto.

Introducing Blanc & Noir

By Laura on January 26th, 2011

While back in Canada over the holidays I discovered this amazing Vancouver-based label, Blanc & Noir. The brain child of Saskatoon-raised Jean Claude LeBlanc, the label focuses on creating timeless looks with a dedication to high-quality production. In fact with the exception of the Italian-made footwear and Japanese selvedge denim, the collection is made almost entirely in Canada.
Their debut collection will be out Fall/Winter 2011so make sure to keep an eye out for it.

Roger Daltrey is the latest in our famous waistcoat wearers, after Boyzone, Daniel Radcliffe and TV on the Radio’s Kyp Malone before him.

Appearing onstage with the rest of The Who in Canada recently he was sporting said waistcoat, fine weave shirt, black jeans and black motorcycle boots. What do you think, is the outfit a success or a flop? Take our poll after the jump!

Gallery: Coldplay’s military look, yay or nay?

By admin on August 1st, 2008

Coldplay’s latest album was released without too much fanfare confirming their status as indie stadium monoliths. They recently played the Air Canada Centre in Toronto where they sported their new military look. It’s a kind of shabby military look apparently inspired by French painter Eugène Delacroix which the band have taken to wearing as their tour uniform.

What do you think of their new look? Take our poll after the jump!
