When Brandon Flowers stepped onto the stage at this years Brits 2009 in that jacket I died as I felt my own wardrobe implode with sheer joy. His jacket had major shoulder pads covered in long feathers and the overall look was a mixture of indie legend and an American footballer who had been given a makeover by Jean Paul Gaultier.
I was pleasantly surprised at how many people shared in my amazement and when I set my Facebook status to something Brandon-related immediately I had replies from fashion, music and technology writers all claiming to be either in love/ mad with envy or seeing double. I, myself, felt that I recognised the jacket and it wasn’t until the next day that I realised the model Brandon had obviously been taking style tips from…

I hate to admit it but fashion weeks kill me. They really do. Don’t get me wrong- I love the glamour, the fabrics, the details, the models and every other part of the fashion seasons. But it gives me a pain in the very bottom of my heart when I realise that the glorious clothes I drool over and dream about will only end up on the Jonas Brothers 2 months later.
Case in point: Joe Jonas (above center) in Burberry at the 51st Annual Grammy Awards last Sunday. That brilliant and rather glorious, embossed silk jacket should be mine! What do you think-can clothes be ruined by the celebs who choose to wear them?

Yesterday, I was on my way to Gatwick after a holiday in Brighton and the radio came on with Jimmy Carr talking about such things as ‘Guyliner’ and ‘Manscara.’ It turned out that Carr had himself been wearing these rather controversial at the Elle Style Awards on Monday night and he explained that “you can’t polish a turd but you can sprinkle glitter on it.”
At Brandish, we have already investigated this trend of man make-up with hilarious videos and opinion pieces. What do you think? Tell us on our Facebook wall.

Matt Smith, a 26-year old actor and relative unknown, has been made the new Doctor Who and if not for anything else, he will be known as the youngest ever Doctor. Smith has appeared in theatre productions ‘That Face’ and ‘Swimming with Sharks.’ Smith is creating considerable drama with his appointment as The Doctor and my favourite (albeit unreliable) Daily Mail is reporting suspicions of a betting-related scandal.
With his thin frame, gauche mannerisms and androgynous looks, I think we have a potential style idol on our hands. What do you think? Tell us on our Facebook wall.

The Guardian released its ‘Best Dressed of 2008′ list last week and along with likes of Carine Roitfeld and Alexa Chung, Henry Conway was featured as a sartorial star. The newspaper reports that “anyone who can steal the limelight from Paris Hilton at her own London party courtesy of a dashing white satin suit is OK by us.”
The 10-person long list is women-dominated and the only other men to feature on the list were Take That and Barack Obama so Henry has done rather well!
Do you agree with the paper’s judgement? E-mail isabelle@shinymedia.com or write on our Facebook wall!

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have appeared in the latest issue of New York Times T Style looking actually quite alright in full-on Old-Hollywood shots by the genius fashion photographer Solve Sundsbo. The pair look as if they have stepped off a film set in sharp tailoring and, after all those Scientology-maniac rumours, it seems quite fitting that they take the covers of the magazine’s ‘Reinvention Issue.’
See after the jump for all the pics from the editorial!

Ashton Kutcher is one of my low-key style icons. Firstly, he started out as a model and it was he who introduced the now infamous ‘trucker cap’ to the fashion scene. Rumours were rife of a fashion collaboration when he was spotted note-taking in the front rows of fashion weeks and now he has provided us with even more style inspiration.
At the premiere of Demi Moore’s new film, ‘Flawless,’ Ashton was a picture of muted luxury with his regal red tie, opulent tweed coat and not-too-flashy Louis Vuitton scarf. This is a look that anyone can copy this Winter!

I want Barack Obama to become the President of the USA. I do. Honestly.
However, telling you guys is enough for me and I don’t feel the need to have his name plastered across each of my outfits. Benji Madden turned up to a Diesel’s 30th Birthday in New York having heavily invested in the trend for Obama-slogan clothes and his political tuppence worth came in the form of a print tee.

When I saw this image on Hypebeast this morning, I instantly wanted to put it on Brandish and have it sent right round the world on some type of banner. Unfortunately, I found out 5 minutes later that the hotel I’m staying at (Grand Hyatt Mumbai,) has given the entire floor above me to a call centre which means that it takes my computer about half an hour to Google something and the thought of uploading a picture onto Movable Type almost brings me to tears.
Anyway here it is: a picture sure to go down in fashion history.

Being the face of a Givenchy fragrance pretty much cements you as a style star (not that I would know but one must work on assumption when speaking of Britney-dating, ex-N*Sync stars!) Well, I was bitterly disappointed in Justin Timberlake’s outfit at the Fashion Rocks concert last week. JT wore a grey blazer from his new ‘William Rast’ range and a pair of hideous turn-up jeans with an odd silk tie- seemingly cut in half.
Is it just me who’s shocked by this lack of style sense? Vote in our poll below!

This week’s ‘Love The Look’ sees Joshua Jackson, and boyfriend of Diane Kruger, looking incredibly dapper in a Hollywood screen-star suit. I’m guessing that, by the waistcoat, details and fact that just about every Hollywood man at the moment is hooked, that the suit is by Tom Ford but who care’s about a lack of originality when you’ve made this much effort!
The details are the key: the perfect black buttons, the patent glint of the shoes, the bold bow-tie and silk (yet classy) lapel of the jacket. Joshua was attending the Jaeger-Le Coultre Gala at the 65th Venice Film Festival and while most men would look a bit pants next to a Chanel muse and seasoned-wearer of Dior, Elie Saab and Prada, Jackson proves he’s a worthy sartorial opponent.

“Before Breakfast, I Am No Style Icon.”
It was revealed yesterday afternoon that the latest issue of Vogue Germany has a multiple cover. One goes to Toni Garrn and the other to Brandish fave, Daniel Craig.
Daniel is shot by Rankin in a relatively boring editorial, and the cover headline is “Mr. Style & Mrs. Chic.” I like the colour palette of hot red with the white-light background and cool colours of Craig’s outfit, but the pout is a bit off and the turn of this good-looker’s head makes it look as if he has an odd and inflamed left-ear.
Read on for some shocking German translations and more details of this issue.

The word is out and diamond-encrusted rattles our shaking throughout Hollywood. The Pitt-Jolies (or the better-sounding Jolie-Pitts,) are welcoming to the world a baby boy and girl. The boy has been named Knox Leon and the girl Vivienne Marcheline, with sources reporting that Vivienne came in at 5lbs; a fraction lighter than her brother.

So, after the Brandish Poll, 43% of you thought that ‘Worrelly’ is bound for disaster. But if these holiday snaps are anything to go by, the couple is going from strength to strength.
Decked out in slick black and porcelain skin, the couple were spotted on a beach in Malibu. After questioning their suitability, I have to admit that their matching sunglasses are pretty cute – and what’s not to like about their matching hats?
One thing I’m not too sure about is Luke’s sun exposure. What about his pale, peroxide, waif-like look? Is this the start of Luke’s descent into Rocawear and slicked hair? Let’s hope not – it just means we’ll all have to attempt the look next season…

In a 3-week diary for The Independent, Mario Testino has revealed all on life as one of fashion’s big players. But catching our attention is the news that Mario was in New York on the 18th of June to shoot Gossip Girl‘s Chase Crawford for VMAN’s next issue.
As a forward and delightfully stylish mag for in-the-know sartorialists, VMAN is always one to watch and Brandish has previously reported on its great use of graphics and imagery in different editorials.
Testino reports that he shot “a young actor called Chase Crawford – he’s, like, the heartthrob of the moment. It’s much more unusual for me to photograph guys. I find women are more exciting because you can play with the fashion. With men, there are more restrictions.”
