Andre Benjamin (also known as Andre 3000) is taking part in the latest ‘Declare Yourself’ campaign which urges American youths to cast their vote as to who should be the next President of their country. Christina Aguilera and Jessica Alba also star in the campaign but it’s Andre’s image that has caught my attention.
Gagged with one of his own bow-ties, the campaign tells that “only you can silence yourself.”

Iggy Pop has, in previous seasons, been declared by designers as high-fashion inspiration. And for many valid reasons; he rocked skinny leather trousers long before Kate Moss, meddled with blood long before Angelina Jolie and played the effeminate rocker with crazy hair long before Russell Brand.
But when Brandish’s own Isabelle reported on the menswear trend of ‘Medges,’ (men’s footwear with a Wedge heel,) no-one was expecting the trend to filter down to Crocs.
As good old Oscar Wilde once mused, “fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months.” Well, there’s no time like the present!

Mark Ronson has always been a tiptop fashion star and this year has been awash with his sartorial influence. From the stripes and Mod look of early 2008 to the sharp tailoring in kooky fabrics. From the ’50s rock-star (read: Elvis) to the fur-clad aristo-geek.
Now, Ronson is taking it upon himself to lead the way with the trapper-hat wearer, ‘Lightspeed Champion,’ look as first established by our (soon to depart-) Jason Dike. Mark looked great at Vivienne Westwood’s after-show party last night with his fur-lined coat, oversized glasses and slick boots.

When I saw this image on Hypebeast this morning, I instantly wanted to put it on Brandish and have it sent right round the world on some type of banner. Unfortunately, I found out 5 minutes later that the hotel I’m staying at (Grand Hyatt Mumbai,) has given the entire floor above me to a call centre which means that it takes my computer about half an hour to Google something and the thought of uploading a picture onto Movable Type almost brings me to tears.
Anyway here it is: a picture sure to go down in fashion history.

As much as I hate label-whores and Louis Vuitton/Gucci-style designs that are made only for the monogram printed across them, I have to admit that my Sartorial ‘id,’ survives vicariously through Kanye West’s ‘Universecity’ blog.
Often, we catch (not very) subtle glimpses of candy-coloured designer goods but sometimes we’re treated to the odd indie-flash buy. Like this ‘Mr P’ t-shirt designed by Tim Lahan. It’s quirky, fun, lighthearted and a piece that you could wear with anything.
Not recommended for those with a fear of pigeons; if that includes you, then I apologise for exposing you to what must surely be like The Ring + The Grudge + The Shining (in pigeon-fearing terms.)

With a new of series of Heroes about to begin, the unfortunate death of Yves Saint Laurent and the number of Clark Kent-y characters about in the most recent blockbusters, my style radar is tuned to the male who’s gauche, awkward and geeky in the best way possible. Think of 1970s art students carrying open sketchbooks around Paris, Isaac Mendez of Heroes lounging around his studio in over-sized chinos and Marc Jacobs around his grunge era (which means big glasses, baggy jumpers and lots of corduroy.) I took a risk with mixing the denim shirt with dark jeans but the two items together are a wearable look that anyone can pull off.
Check out the product details after the jump and see how geeky you can get this winter- Argyle jumper anyone?

Rex Features describes the Creative Arts Primetime Emmys as an event to “recognise technical and other achievements for the 2007-08 TV season…widely considered to be a precursor to the main Emmys ceremony.”
In my world of tired soaps like Eastenders and Coronation St, this translates as an excuse for C-list stars to dress up in posh frocks a la the recent TV Soap Awards (or something along those lines) that occurred in Britain where everyone thought that Ashley Slanina-Davies from Hollyoaks was a style star because she actually had a YSL clutch (and, I admit it, she did look wonderfully 80s.)
Anyway, Alan Cumming decided to bring a different flavour to the LA-based awards and opted for grunge-hair and darker shades instead of the usual skinny-fit suit, Converse trainer and grey/black palette that we see from most of LA’s men.

My bad! I may have the wrong film but I doubt such a slip-up would result in a look that miserable from Robert DeNiro? Might it be that he’s fed up with films? Maybe he (okay, clearly he) couldn’t be bothered to make the effort to dress up but my bet is that it’s standing next to Al Pacino who, as well as being an arguably equal competitor on the greatest actor front, actually looks pretty good!
Read on for pictures including 50 Cent as well as info about this cult-to-be film.

Being the face of a Givenchy fragrance pretty much cements you as a style star (not that I would know but one must work on assumption when speaking of Britney-dating, ex-N*Sync stars!) Well, I was bitterly disappointed in Justin Timberlake’s outfit at the Fashion Rocks concert last week. JT wore a grey blazer from his new ‘William Rast’ range and a pair of hideous turn-up jeans with an odd silk tie- seemingly cut in half.
Is it just me who’s shocked by this lack of style sense? Vote in our poll below!

Condé Nast’s fifth Fashion Rocks event was hardly devoid of well-dressed men: Valentino, Justin Timberlake (who’s fashion-savvy has become a matter of debate…well, for me anyway,) Gossip Girl’s Chace Crawford (who’s rumoured to have scored an up-coming VMAN cover.) My point is that, for a menswear designer, Michael Bastian more than held his own in this pantheon of celebs.
I love his vintage-looking blazer as well as his loafers and with an open shirt and a pair of well-tailored grey shorts, he is a vision of relaxed but high-fashion cool.
Notice the subtle pocket-square (an emblem of any well-dressed male) and devour this style inspiration.

Pretty soon there isn’t going to be a single celebrity left who doesn’t have their own clothing line and even Patrick Kielty will be down at Brixton Market trying to flog a 3-pack of Kielty socks for a fiver.
Mark Ronson, pictured left with Daisy Lowe is the latest to get in on the act saying “I get all these style awards which I love and so we are chatting about a line of suits now. I like the idea of trying my hand at that really.” Expect to see slim-fitting retro-inspired suits from the New York producer.

Just last week, Brandish editor Isabelle asked the general fashion public if the waistcoat could ever be worn well. We were subjected to the torture of Boyzone (whose waistcoat crimes can also be seen here,) and then buttered up with stories of white waffle and petrol blue. Now, I’ve created an outfit out of an All Saints waistcoat and looked to Frank Sinatra for tailoring inspiration.
Tell us what you think by e-mailing isabelle@shinymedia.com!
Product details after the jump.

In previous months, I have reported on the possibility that maybe Brandish is read by major celebrities. We preempted Russell Brand’s short shorts, the change in mood of Mr Mill’s Style Column in the Sunday Time’s Style Magazine and now, it appears that our editor Isabelle may have inspired Coldplay frontman Chris Martin’s new haircut. Days after Isabelle claimed skinhead-inspired film ‘This Is England’ as style inspiration, Chris Martin has appeared at a BBC Radio 2 song session with his previously curly locks shaved off. Simple chance or Sartorial steal?
Anyway, what do you think of this new look? Continue reading to vote in our poll.

A fantastically over-the-top and outrageously extravagant magazine issue seems to be à la mode for the brand anniversaries of today. Lacoste reworked Visionaire for their 75th Anniversary and now Esquire, the mens lifestyle magazine, is celebrating their 75th (coincidence?) with the World’s first ‘Digital Cover.’ In Brandish speak: a cover that actually moves!
There will only be 100,000 copies of this issue and when it appears on newsstands come September, it will boast that “the 21st Century Begins Now!” The New York Times reports that the issue will come with an attached battery pack.
Who will get the cover- an undoubtedly huge boost for any career!

Last night I went to see ‘Batman: The Dark Knight’ at a small, local film-house. The queues trailed out of the door and down the street- surely a first for such a small-scale cinema. Bearing in mind that this place sits in the middle of a village that doesn’t exactly boast of a youthful population, I knew there must be some reason they were flocking to watch a super-hero film. That reason is Heath Ledger. Entrancing, dark, clever, mesmerizing; he is all these things and more. The film is like a non-stop showcase of Ledger’s immense talent and after giving you the low-down on the premiere, I now give you a few of Ledger’s best looks.
