Musto 1964 Collection: When fashion meets function

By Gerald Lynch on July 3rd, 2012

As anyone who’s ever stood in a field of 80,000 people listening to banging tunes in the middle of a soggy British summer festival can attest to, staying warm and dry at an outdoor gig is often a proper struggle (we’re not talking about you lucky Californian sods who get to bask in the sunshine of Coachella each year). Staying warm, dry and stylish is nigh-on impossible.

The nautical leanings of the new Musto 1964 Collection however looks set to be a nice marriage of both fashion and function.

Taking in items including wax deck coat waterproofs, parkas, chinos and even a beanie that’d make Steve Zissou himself envious, it’s a classic look with items that could slip easily into most casual wardrobes for the coming Autumn and Winter seasons. The range will be available from September.

Scroll down for a closer look at what’s on offer, and hit up www.musto.com for more info.

Legs get ready to rumble! Cool cycling trousers for a hot summer

By admin on June 5th, 2009

Cycling through Bloomsbury last night, I was struck by the sheer number of other cyclists on the roads. Seriously, it’s like the bicycle M1 there in rush hour. When budgets tighten and the weather brightens (sorry), cyclists come out to play, so it looks like summer is definitely set to be based around 2 wheels. And for that, you need the right outfit.

While it’s a little too warm for full-length jeans, rolling up an old pair can work pretty well. Technical cycling trousers can be fairly awful (dayglo lycra with reflective patches is not a Brandish-endorsed look), but this pair from US brand Outlier fill a gap for neatly tailored, slim trousers that are also fast-wicking and breathable. If you can’t stretch to the required $220 (plus international shipping), ASOS’s £25 slimfit chinos come in a pretty array of colours (we rate the teal ones most). Somewhere between the two sit Acne’s lovely peppermint chinos for £135. If you really want to impress the traffic, try matching your trouser colour to your bike frame.

Outfit Pick: Braving the Blue with Burberry!

I’m currently sitting in a small room in India with a fan spinning in an attempt to cool me down and a mosquito net blanketing the balcony door. I have to admit it’s pretty hard to imagine wearing trench coats right now. But, I’m a proud Brit and nothing is going to get in the way of my winter-wardrobe appreciation.

This Outfit Pick shows you how to rock a modern, edgy winter look that will have you feeling protected and warm but not boring and hoping no-one spots you in your M&S beanie.

The trench adds a sharp shot of buzzing colour and the t-shirt and boots add an urban gypsy vibe that’s very on-trend. The umbrella…well, that’s just for fun.
