Present Tense: Gifts for a luxe Christmas

By admin on December 10th, 2008

Aspirational present ideas for your friends and loved ones, there is nothing more luxe than carrying a nifty china version of a disposable coffee cup and it’s eco-friendly to boot. A bow tie spruces up a simple shirt no end and the Topman Fairisle scarf is a lot cheaper than it looks. Dressing gowns make rubbish presents unless they are amazing quality like this black one which will make the wearer feel like they’re in a hotel even if they’re just watching Fern and Phillip in their pants.

The Eugenia Kim hat combines the trendiness and warmth of a trapper hat with the timelessness of dogtooth and I don’t need to tell you why Opening Ceremony‘s patent desert boots are amazing.

Mishka make some pretty wicked T’s, for one there is the awesome collab they did with Richard Kern bringing boobies into your fashion life. For me though not much tops the awesome 80′s Metalness of this t-shirt. Entitled “DON’T FEAR THE REAPER” and coming in two colours- black and white, this is definitely on my Christmas wish list.

Cut the sleeves off your denim jack and rock out like Bill and Ted this festive season with this Mishka T at a VAT adjusted £29.36 from wellgosh.

Men.Style- ‘The Ultimate Party Guide’ by The Upgrader

By Will Reid on December 8th, 2008

brandish.jpgMen.Style is great for tongue-in-cheek features and their ‘Ultimate Party Guide’ is not only perfectly-timed but a great read and (just to add some sense of validity to this post,) a good laugh. The feature aims to make you “a legendary host” and the site has got a few of America’s most refined movers ‘n’ shakers on-board to add their two pence to the Christmas-party-nightmare cup.

If you are planning to throw a party and you’re hoping it lives up to the obviously high-expectations of those who actually enjoy Christmas (which I’m sure is all Brandish readers!) then you have to read the full run-down of the guide after the jump!

Brandish Christmas Picks: Comme Des Garçons Christmas pouch

By Jonathan Smith on December 4th, 2008

comme-des-garcons-xmas-pouch-2.jpg

As Isabelle has mentioned and as you may be aware from the adverts that have been on your telly since the start of November (which is too early goddamit!) it’s Christmas time and time to start thinking of what gifts you’re going to ply your loved ones with. From Comme Des Garçons are these Christmas pouches, made from black leather and studded with Swarovski stones to spell out “Dec 2008″. Other than the lettering on the outside I’m not clear on what makes these so Christmassy, perhaps you could fill them with love to all men and seasonal good will. Also it occurs to me that if you pull this out to buy your ice cream in the height of summer, you’re going to look a little bit of a dick with your past season Christmas based pouch.

These will be available from Dover Street Market soon if you know of someone who needs a Christmas-based pouch. Jump through for more pics.

Brandish Inspiration: The Sartorialist Shoots Chanel Menswear in Fantastic Man 8

By Will Reid on November 26th, 2008

Chanel1Web.jpg

It’s that time of year when men and women of every age are all forgetting about work and turning their thoughts to something much more important- Christmas presents. I’m not talking about gifts for the slightly odd uncle or some flowers for that 80-year old neighbour who suddenly said ‘hello’ yesterday even though you heard she had died two months ago (just me?) I mean a Chanel Menswear tweed coat.

The great Karl Lagerfeld is no idiot when it comes to the gift-giving season and for the eighth issue of Fantastic Man, he has asked Scott Schuman (The Sartorialist) to shoot the latest collection of elusive Chanel menswear for an article written by Charlie Porter. Wow.

Jack Wills ‘Classic British Tailoring’ Collection

By Will Reid on November 26th, 2008

jw.jpg

Jack Wills is a label synonymous with public school brats and pink polo-shirts with faux-Rugby Club logos. However, beneath what appears to be a rather empty and shallow brand image, every now and then Jack Wills releases a couple of items that can be put together to form fashion-friendly looks. I, myself, have a skinny scarf that is a perfect blend of stripey knit and dove grey silk- it never fails to improve an otherwise boring look.

In time for the Christmas period, the high-street chain has released their ‘Classic British Tailoring’ collection featuring gems such as the Lewington Tails and Oakington jacket.

Marks and Spencer take on Take That for Christmas ad

By admin on November 14th, 2008

Check out the new Marks and Spencer Christmas advert which stars Take That in festive mode joking around with Twiggy, Lily Cole and the rest of the M&S crew.
My favourite part is Gary’s hilariously uneasy face ten seconds in, and there are pure LOLZ to be had when Ikkle Mark™ swaps present tags around; what a joker!

Gareth Pugh for Topman

By Jonathan Smith on November 10th, 2008

gareth-pugh-topshop-christmas-tree-2-340x540.jpg

Well it’s technically Topshop I suppose, and it’s not clothes either so this post is kinda losing its relevance however I shall persevere. For Topshop this (festive) season Gareth Pugh has created a Christmas tree out of those most nontraditional of materials: neon light bulbs. Gareth has used 60 neon bulbs to create this rather lack luster tree that has no tinsel, shiny glass ornaments or even a fairy straddling the peak, minimal just isn’t Christmas. But check it out for yourself, the tree will be available to view at Topshop/Topman’s flag ship store at Oxford Circus.

Lessons in party wear: Jamie Foxx hits 40

By admin on December 18th, 2007

JamiefoxxWell, he doesn’t so much hit 40 so much as knock it down and reverse back over it a few times. What in God’s name is he wearing?
I hope there was some sort of pimps and hos theme to Jamie Foxx’s 40th birthday in Miami, otherwise there’s some serious crimes being committed here and I don’t mean lewd conduct, although that was probably happening too. The Foxx looks truly horrendous. There’s really no respite for the eyes in that outfit. Everything looks so cheap, as if it came out of a Christmas cracker.
This is the problem with the holiday season: fancy dress. Don’t do it people. Or if you must, make sure you look amazing. If you’re going to dress fancy, then dress fancy. There’s no excuse for cheap white trousers and black shoes. Ever!
God I hate Jamie Foxx.

Top present picks for men from Catwalk Queen

By ShinyMedia on December 17th, 2007

Take a look at Gemma and I sat on the couch at Shiny Towers looking through a selection of gift ideas for men. They’re good for your brother or your bezzie, but frankly I think you just should treat yourself to one of these gift ideas because Christmas is usually disappointing enough!

Check out Kat and Stu’s ipod jacket video for more details on this product, and also because the video is hilarious!

Odds of a White Christmas very high with Demeter Fragrance Library

By admin on December 17th, 2007

SnowI don’t know about you but I’m dreaming of a white Christmas, and at the time of writing Ladbrokes are offering odds at 4/1 of London getting one so I might well be in luck.
For those of you who are unfortunate enough to live in a climate where brass monkeys don’t live in fear of castration, you might just have to settle for some snow scented perfume. Those crazies at Demeter Fragrance Library claim to have bottled the smell of snow (riiiiiiight, Demeter, of course you have) and the scent can purchase it from their on-line store.
The Demeter range includes Dirt, Grass (both kinds), Laundromat and Lobster as well as more sensible smells like Gardenia and Ginger. It’s the loopier scents that are most entertaining however and I’m sure there’s a few perfect gifts in there. If you know anyone with a particular olfactory obsession, check it out.
