Instead of watching the same old repeats and lame programmes cosy up to an old classic, it’s a great way to avoid the usual Christmas dirge and can be a useful sartorial lesson.
I’ve just finished watching ‘It Happened One Night‘ a wonderful classic featuring Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert. Clark looks his usual dashing self in the film, wearing a casual tweed suit with pockets and a gathered back. The real clothing controversy comes in the scene where he undresses, unable to take both a shirt and undershirt off quickly enough for the scene he abandoned the vest creating a nationwide drop in demand for the garment which is surely a greater lesson learnt than anything you could garner watching My Family repeats, or god forbid, Little Britain USA.

The Desert Boot is a design classic and is one of those items which never really goes out of style. I recently saw a well-dressed chap on the street sporting a suede pair with some tracksuit-bottom style cuffed trousers and it made a great outfit.
Clarks Originals have some great traditional colours available for Autumn, their Desert Boot comes in cream, tan and ebony. They’ve also updated the look and brought out a pair in shimmering peach or silver and they’re about a hundred times better looking than they sound on paper.
The peach pair would look great with some faded grey jeans and in my dreams I’d love to see the silver pair as part of an all-metallic outfit… What? Pictures after the jump.

Designer Spotlight, Luggage

So I am back from a rather long and horribly intense camping trip and I’ve decided that maybe I need to be a bit less full-on when it comes to fashion. How much longer can we go on with these studs and chunks of waxed crocodile leather? To be honest I am worryingly attracted to Jason’s idea of living in pyjamas for a while.
However, when items like Pauric Sweeney’s gem-coloured bags turn up on Brown’s with white piping and “bronze perforated pockets” I am reminded of why I love fashion. Okay, at £800 this love may seem slightly conditional but who was it that said beauty is pain? Whoever it was they must have had a great wardrobe. This season has seen the reinvention of classic items and whether it be the Chanel 2.55 for the girls or the Chelsea boot for men, get on board this embellished bandwagon.

Only a few years ago, Aquascutum was an ancient brand on the verge of becoming one of fashion’s victims- because fashion has no mercy and all that Liz Hurley-tagline jazz. However, in the past few years it has managed a complete turnaround and is now at the forefront of style. It’s latest fix- the AquaMac, is a his ‘n’ hers item that is on trend but enviously practical. Introduced as a “stripped-down modern trench coat” on the Aquascutum site, it has Raglan sleeves for that Miami Vice roll-up look and is a. available in a range of colours, b. a raincoat and c. foldaway! Could you ask for any more in a future classic? Available in all sizes from S to XXL and just over eight colours, it is reasonably priced at £295. Order yours online now.
