Mark Ronson hints at plans for clothing range

By admin on September 9th, 2008

mark ronson suits clothing daisy lowe.jpgPretty soon there isn’t going to be a single celebrity left who doesn’t have their own clothing line and even Patrick Kielty will be down at Brixton Market trying to flog a 3-pack of Kielty socks for a fiver.

Mark Ronson, pictured left with Daisy Lowe is the latest to get in on the act saying “I get all these style awards which I love and so we are chatting about a line of suits now. I like the idea of trying my hand at that really.” Expect to see slim-fitting retro-inspired suits from the New York producer.

L’Officiel Hommes Singapore: Launch Issue with Dior Homme, Kris Van Assche and Cole Mohr!

By Will Reid on September 8th, 2008

l'officielhommes.jpgL’Officiel Hommes has just launched in Singapore and their launch issue is a high-fashion, Dior Homme-loaded festival of sartorial savoir-faire.

By this I mean that we’re given great editorials with the likes of model Cole Mohr, photographer Milan Vukmirovic, and Dior Homme-designer Kris Van Assche directing a 10-page editorial featuring only Dior Homme clothes! The magazine has really pulled out all the stops for this issue and it is hopefully the precedent for a great future.

See after the jump for a full review with pictures from every editorial!

Outfit Pick: The Waistcoat Done Well?

By Will Reid on September 8th, 2008

waistcoat.jpgJust last week, Brandish editor Isabelle asked the general fashion public if the waistcoat could ever be worn well. We were subjected to the torture of Boyzone (whose waistcoat crimes can also be seen here,) and then buttered up with stories of white waffle and petrol blue. Now, I’ve created an outfit out of an All Saints waistcoat and looked to Frank Sinatra for tailoring inspiration.

Tell us what you think by e-mailing isabelle@shinymedia.com!

Product details after the jump.

WISHLIST: CDG Embossed Wallet at Start London

By Will Reid on September 3rd, 2008

cdg.jpgMy style pick for this week is this gorgeous Comme Des Garcons wallet from Start London. Mr Start, a past columnist for Brandish, has a great look and I can imagine this item slotting into his vintage chic and classic cool wardrobe quite nicely. The embossed leather is a great cerulean blue, made famous by the brilliant film ‘The Devil Wears Prada.’ The wallet has a zip around two sides and an “internal pocket to hold either coins, cards or bills.”

CDG Wallet, £45, Start London

Brandish Poll: How Tidy Is Your Wardrobe?

By Will Reid on July 30th, 2008

ocd closet.jpgFashionista has been sent a pic of one reader’s wardrobe (above)- her shoeboxes are transparent, her clothes are colour-coordinated, everything is obsessively neat and you can only imagine she has an itsy-bit too much time on her hands. Brandish Editor Isabelle has opened up her wardrobe for a new Catwalk Queen feature and it’s certainly isn’t that meticulous!

So, while my wardrobe is most definitely not as organised as the Fashionista reader (I keep all my clothes in drawers and after too long away from home have a habit of living out of a suitcase,) we at Brandish want to know how tidy your wardrobe/closet/clothes space is?

Tell us in the poll below!

WISHLIST: Henry Holland ‘Lives not Knives’ T-shirt

By Will Reid on July 28th, 2008

livesnotknives.jpgKnife crime has reached an unbelievable height in Britain and with the murder of Ben Kinsella, the seventeenth teenager to die as a result of knife crime in London this year, Grazia has launched their ‘Lives for Knives’ campaign. As part of the campaign, the magazine has got Henry Holland, Katharine Hamnett and Sophia Kokosalaki on board to design t-shirts as well as laying a set of Five Government Demands.

On my WISHLIST is Henry Holland’s design, an electric-blue t-shirt with striking design and bold lettering. One size fits all and all proceeds go to the Ben Kinsella Foundation, a charity set up for the prevention of future knife-crime. I couldn’t think of a more worthy summer buy.

T-shirt, Exclusively at Matches, £36

Because The Tan Isn’t Bad Enough; Cristiano Ronaldo Does Silver Short-Shorts!

By Will Reid on July 24th, 2008

ronaldo(2).jpgWay back when (honestly Cristiano,) at the peak of the short-shorts trend, Brandish was rife with talk of Wham!, a model short-shorts wearer and metallic fabric. In an awfully weird way, Cristiano Ronaldo looks like a mixture of about three weeks worth of posts.

In case you haven’t already been blinded my that horrific pic to the left, I’m talking about this week’s latest fashion crime: those tight, silver short-shorts. Ronaldo was snapped while shopping at the Christian Audigier boutique in Beverly Hills, perfectly tangoed and crutch-ridden. Unlike that signature white suit, I can’t even bring myself to jokily utter that infamous question- Yay or Nay?

The Brandish Sphere of Influence- Mr Mills Style Column?

By Will Reid on July 23rd, 2008

mrmills2.jpgJust two weeks ago, Brandish reviewed the first edition of the Sunday Times Style Magazine’s ‘Mr Mills’ menswear and style column. I decided that Mills needed to brighten up a bit and make the column a little more cheery and summer-inclined if he was to hold the attention of readers. Well, call me egotistical, but is it pure coincidence that the latest edition of the column featured pieces on swim trunks, sunglasses, lime green hair oil and bright-coloured ties?

Jason also picked up on the possible influence of Brandish yesterday with a post on Taz of Sa-Ra. We’re not serious of course, but Mr Mills does look set to be a great read.

A Bit of Fun: 80sTees.com

By Will Reid on July 10th, 2008

80stees.jpgAs part of Google Mail, you are constantly bombarded with adverts for whatever your e-mails are about. For me, that is largely fashion and therefore, I receive links to sites such as 80sTees.com. This online store proved to be pretty good; I wasted about half and hour going through the memorabilia.

See after the jump for my top picks-including a Karate Kid t-shirt, awesome NEW YORK MTV t-shirt and an incredible Freddy Krueger jumper (who cares if it’s not entirely wearable-it’s a “deluxe replica”!)

Love The Look: Richard Chai No. 8

By Will Reid on July 3rd, 2008

richardchai.jpgThis new feature highlights the looks we love. Whether it be charity-shop mannequins or fashion week-shots, we will tell you which outfits are rocking our fashion-obsessed world. The first post of this feature looks at Richard Chai’s collection and the one look that I would literally kill for. (Okay, maybe not kill but beat up that glossy male model for sure.)

The whole collection had the feel of street-style and with increased ethnicity in the models used by different labels I think it is clear that the industry is beginning to move away from high-gloss and fake tans. Why go for prissy Versace-boy when you can be an adventurous Dunhill-man?

Check out those high-tops and that two-tone shirt and I doubt you will be able to resist the charm of a young designer only in his second season. I would say ‘out with the old’ but then again I believe it unnecessary to have yet another look at Yohji Yamamoto’s ghost model.

Will the ladies love LL Cool J’s range for Sears?

By admin on May 27th, 2008

ll cool j.jpgSears are trying to expand their market by introducing a new line designed by veteran rapper LL Cool J.
It’s no groundbreaking concept collection, more of a range of t-shirts and jeans, Sears senior vice president Irv Neger said: “We know this [urban] customer is in the store, but it’s a customer we weren’t reaching. With this brand, we see tremendous growth opportunity.”
LL Cool J seems determined to prove his worth as a fashion designer saying: “I was raised by a matriarch, I have a wife and three daughters, so I know what women are looking for when they shop for clothes,”

He added: “My main concern with juniors is to make sure the fit is right. The fabrics have to feel nice on a woman’s body, but sizing and fit are very important. I know that if she comes in, puts it on and it doesn’t fit, she won’t come back. Clothes have to make a woman feel good, relaxed and sexy. We are going to be constantly looking at fine-tuning the fit and we’ll get it right.”

“Love Is Blind…” – True Or False?

By Will Reid on April 4th, 2008

vanity.JPGEveryone has had that person they wanted to impress; the girl, the guy, the parent, the boss. And what better medium than fashion? Whether it’s the Louboutin slutty-stiletto (for the girls let me say) or one of Armani’s finest suits, the right look can make or break a first date.

So when Mick Jagger, a living legend with everything but height and anti-wrinkle cream on his side, took his fiancée L’Wren Scott (6′ 4″ to Mick’s 5′ 10″) to the premiere of ‘Shine a Light’ (the Rolling Stones’ new ‘rockumentary’) it was clear that he felt the need to give himself a bit of a sartorial boost. So how true is it that “love isn’t finding a perfect person, it’s seeing an imperfect person perfectly?”

Read on for more celeb examples and rather mean imagery.

WISHLIST: Rykiel Homme T-Shirt

By Will Reid on April 2nd, 2008

rykiel.jpgThis shirt from Rykiel Homme is perfect for the season. Dark with a touch of colour it is fresh and non-fussy as well as being a quirky classic. From the über stylish Start Boutique, it would honestly work with just about any item. 100% cotton with stripes of black, white, grey, blue, lilac and green it also features a ribbed collar and sleeves and could be unisex with its balance of masculine and feminine tones. I would style it with white skinny jeans, the gorgeous blue brogues Richard posted about (please be released!,) a vintage velvet blazer and my silver watch. This is a label I definitely have my eye on. T-Shirt, £99.50, Start Boutique

My Theory- The Future of Short Shorts

By Will Reid on March 17th, 2008

00340m_2
“You were on my mind at least nine tenths of yesterday, it seemed as if perhaps I’d gone insane. What is it about you that has commandeered my brain? Maybe it’s your…” Kimya Dawson’s brilliant lyrics ring through my head as I realise that it appears I have nothing better to do on a Saturday night than listen to the Juno soundtrack (heads up my friends, it’s great) and appear pensive and philosophical while typing away at my laptop. That is until you know what is causing me so much mental frustration- I am deciding upon my ‘theory’ (as named by Jason and furthered by Isabelle) regarding the devious short shorts trend.

Short shorts were a feature of last season’s shows and where better to take lead from than the trend-barometer that is the Marc by Marc Jacobs collection (right.) I was quite comfortably on the fence until I received a peculiar delivery from a well-intentioned but elderly great-uncle.
