C.Vox – the sound system in a £65 jacket hits the High Street

By Stefano on November 26th, 2012

Intelligent clothing, or wearable gadgets are big news at the moment and only likely to become mainstream next year. we especially like these Bluetooth gloves - brilliant idea.

Now smart clothing is hitting the High Street courtesy of Debenhams (?!) which has just unveiled the C.VOX range which are outwerwear that include built in headphones, speakers and control system that allows wearers to skip, pause, play music as well as answer and hang up calls. The range goes on sale at Debenhams today (18 November 2012), just in time for Christmas.

And, in case you were wondering in what Debenhams claims is a world first the coat is designed by C.VOX (Communiqué Vox) and incorporates a stylish jacket with a top of the range sound system and hands free set, that is completely machine washable.

We kind of like the jacket too which is barbour-esque and padded with no real collar. Prices start at £65 for men and £33 for kids. The jacket in the picture is £95.

Paul Baldwin, Head of Menswear Buying says; “We are thrilled to be offering such an innovative product to our customers. The range incorporates fashion, technology and practicality at a competitive price.”

Features include; a connector point in the pocket which is compatible with all mobile phones and MP3 players and allows the wearer to connect and conceal the devise, a built in washable speaker and a microphone and control system on the sleeve that allows the wearer to skip, pause and play music as well as answer and hang up calls. The earphones are wired through the jacket and concealed in the collar.

The C.VOX range for men and kids includes jackets, gilets and hooded sweatshirts which all incorporate the groundbreaking technology.

So would you buy one?

Lacoste bought up by Swiss Maus Freres Group

By Gerald Lynch on October 29th, 2012

Sportswear brand Lacoste have been bought out by the Maus Freres Group. The Swiss investors already held a 35% stake in the brand, and are now majority holders by buying up an additional 30.3% stake. The move values the French fashion line at somewhere between  1.0 billion and 1.25 billion euros ($1.29-$1.62 billion).

The sale comes courtesy of a group of family shareholders, including former chairman and chief executive Michael Lacoste, son of brand-founder Rene Lacoste. This has once again ignited growing speculation that a family rift over the direction of the brand is causing tension.

It is believed that Michael Lacoste is at loggerheads with his own daughter, Sophie Lacoste-Dournel, with the parent opposing his daughter’s ascension to the position of non-executive chairman in September.

Michael Lacoste claims that Maus, who have three voting members on the company board, had convinced part of the Lacoste family to form an alliance, wrestling control of the brand away from him.

Maus Freres Group owns department stores and home-improvement outlets in their native land of Switzerland and are a large distributor of clothing brands. The group claim that the purchase secures the future of the brand for the foreseeable future, ensuring employees retain their jobs during tough economic times.

POLL: Men’s braces – Yay or Nay?

By Gerald Lynch on April 3rd, 2012

I like a good belt, me. From a thin braided offering to a chunky biker buckle, they’re my proffered gravity-defying trouser accessory. But as the years pile up, and the pounds pile on, my paunch is finding itself more and more at odds with my waistline adornments.

So what are my other options? I’d rather walk about in my underpants than wear elasticated trousers. They make me think of the super-sized people who have to hire a golf-cart  to get around Disney World without keeling over. And losing weight just isn’t going to happen when Subway have just launched a £3 lunch time meal deal.

As an upstanding citizen (and one happy not to get an ASBO for flashing my tighty whities) the job falls to braces (or suspenders if you’re a US reader), the shoulder-strapping saviours of trouser hems since being popularised in 1822 by Albert Thurston.

But they’ve had a bit of a chequered history, have the humble old braces.  While they’re currently on the rise thanks to the popularity of the suited-booted Mad Men look, in the UK at least they’re still closely associated with the skinhead style championed by the National Front right-wing movement of the 1980s.

Also, this image of former Mayor of London Ken Livingstone, caught recently taking out the rubbish wearing little else OTHER THAN BRACES makes a little bit of sick rise to the back of my throat. Sorry Ken, I’d pick you over Boris any day of the week, but this look’s more Albert Steptoe than Albert Camus.

So, have braces weathered the unsavoury associated storm of the Eighties to shine through in 2012 as an on-trend “boardroom-chic” accessory? Or are they still just a way of keeping the thumbs of shaven-headed yobs occupied instead of forming fists?

Take our poll below and let me know what you think! My dignity depends on it!

Princes Vintage

By admin on May 22nd, 2009

princes vintage brogue rucksack suit.jpg
Princes Vintage is a cut above your average eBay store, there’s no risk of looking like a mismatched musty throwback with the goods they have on offer. Here is a selection of hot items for summer and trusty wardrobe staples:

Make no mistake, rucksacks are back and this leather one is smart enough for formal occasions. Every man needs a good suit, and if you can find a vintage one that fits well hold onto it for dear life, similarly a quality pair of vintage brogues will last an eternity and they go with a wide variety of looks. Lastly, white trousers are your shortcut to summer smart, but make sure you add an idiosyncratic twist like a neckerchief, retro watch or deck shoes in a sherbet pastel so you don’t look too trad.

WISHLIST: Button-detail ‘Belushi’ shirt from b Store London

By Will Reid on May 5th, 2009

belushibstoreOver coffee the other day, I was talking to a friend who suffers from SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder.) Listening to the misery of days spent not knowing what to wear each morning (friends will know of how immense the impact of fashion is upon my life!) I decided to go on the lookout for a designer who can deliver trans-seasonal clothes that will carry us males throughout the year.

b Store London is edging towards the avant-garde and I wasn’t at all expecting to find my SAD solution on its site. Its b Clothing range is full of really wearable, all-year pieces and I would be proud to don this shirt-come rain or shine.

‘Belushi’ shirt, b Store, £115, Size S-XL

Wishlist: Claude Grant Cropped Trousers from Oak

By Will Reid on April 24th, 2009

Picture 2.pngFor the British, summer is a time of seaside, (dubious) sun and 99p ice creams. It can be hard to find the perfect sun ‘n’ sea outfit and I won’t bore you with details of the economy but, basically, we should all be investing in classic investment fashion pieces. Could there be anything more perfect than these cropped trousers in a brilliant azure blue. At $798 (£542,) they might be rather over-priced (okay, very over-priced) but they can be worn in the heat with a basic white tee and Raf Simons gladiator sandals or in the winter with black brogues, a black tee and a grey cardie.

The one problem? They are only stocked up to a size 4 so, as if the beach wasn’t enough in itself, you now have even more reason to drag yourself to the gym after work!

Topman Reveal New Look- ‘Chelsea Arts Club’

By Will Reid on April 14th, 2009

topman chelsea arts club.jpg

Topman have a new mini-collection on their online shop and the look is ‘Chelsea Arts Club.’ The high street label (beloved by the Brandish team,) tells that “this smart trend is influenced by a sophisticated age where actors, artists and sartorialists mixed in exclusive members clubs…the overall look is quirky.” For me, this translates as unusual textures, subtle details and wow-factor tailoring. My fashspirational men are Bob Dylan, Gregory Corso and Pablo Picasso; men who looked effortlessly awesome in rolled-up trousers and paint-stained tees.

Why not buy basic items from Topman and try your hand at home-made accessories? Prepare yourself for beads on string, paperclip tie bars and old woman’s brooches pinned into buttonholes.

Pick up a Murakami novel, write a poem and carry a wicker basket- this summer is all about your inner artist!

Eco Chic or Recycling Freak? Coke Can Tux

By Will Reid on April 8th, 2009

coke-can-1.jpgWhen you see a photo of a teen wearing a prom tuxedo jacket fashioned entirely from Coke cans, you have to wonder what the teen in question does with their free time. This guy, a Napoleon Dynamite-lookalike with a penchant for commercialism, has decided to venture into eco-friendly fashion and after the jump you can witness the entire creation of the waistcoat and jacket (plus bowtie!) from metal to masterpiece. Sadly, this look is more Sideshow Bob than Stella McCartney.

Top Five: Will’s Summer Wants!

By Will Reid on March 26th, 2009

Last summer I was down at Shiny Towers and the gloriously hot days were spent writing, chatting with my fellow Shinies, trying on Drop-Crotch jeans and touring the streets in search of aspirational street style. But despite all the joviality I didn’t quite anticipate the weather (although I refuse to take the blame for that one- when was the last time we had a proper summer?) and ended up the innocent victim of SSS (that’s Skinny jeans in Summer Syndrome.) This summer I am determined to get it right, which is why I have compiled this list of fashion needs (okay, wants.)

Thumbnail image for DSC00603.JPGb.JPG1. Lots of Extra-Hold Hairspray
Since Christmas and a happy accident haircut, I have been living with a bit of an 80s asymmetrical style. My super-thick hair means that I have to use extra-hold products which are effective but grease-free; the wet fro is never a good look! I will need lots of hairspray to combat the heat.
