The Three O’Clock announce rarities album and star on US TV show

By Stefano on April 11th, 2013

Some big news this week from The Three O’Clock – quite possibly the 80s finest pop psych band. The Paisley Undergrounders, who reformed this year to play Coachella (and please, please, please some UK dates too), have announced the release of a new old album which pairs many of their most popular songs with a some rarities.

Titled The Hidden World Revealed the album, which is due in June, features a slew of alternate versions, rarities that only made the European release of their epic debut Baroque Hoedown and more.

In a news release announcing the album, drummer Danny Benair says:

“The Hidden World Revealed takes you from the early days of recording in Michael Quercio’s garage to the days leading up to Arrive Without Traveling and beyond. A combination of the well-known and the unknown. The completist guide to The Three O’Clock — ten years in the making 30 plus years of recording. . . whoosh!

The tracklist is as follows

1. “All In Good Time”
2. “With A Cantaloupe Girlfriend”
3. “In Love In Too”
4. “Stupid Einstein”
5. “Lucifer Sam”
6. “Rodney On The ROQ Commercial” *
7. “Jet Fighter”
8. “When Lightening Starts” (Alternate Version) *
9. “Sound Surrounds” (Demo)*
10. “Around The World”
11. “On My Own” (with Strings) *
12. “I Go Wild” (Alternate Version) *
13. “In My Own Time” (Alternate Version) *
14. “Why Cream Curdles In Orange Tea” *
15. “A Day In Erotica” (Alternate Version) *
16. “Jennifer Only” (Home Demo) * – The Salvation Army
17. “The Girl With The Guitar (Says Oh Yeah)” (Demo) *
18. “Seeing Is Believing”
19. “Regina Caeli”
20. “Feel A Whole Lot Better”

The band also appeared on an American chat show Conan, playing With A Canteloupe Girlfriend, the opening song on Baroque Hoedown – and they sound great.

The band last played a date in the UK in Dingwalls, Camden in 1985. Weirdly enough the support band on the bill were locals called The Thrashing Doves – whose single, Beautiful Imbalance got the thumbs up from a certain female politician who recently died, when she appeared on TV kids programme Saturday Superstore. Odd…

Hunter wellies: festival cliché but good investment

By Colin Chapman on May 14th, 2009

Can I be the first to suggest that, with clouds gathering thick and fast over the UK, you invest in some Hunter wellingtons before you even think about setting foot on a festival site this year? They may have become a cliché, but like all clichés there’s truth involved.

High enough to stop clumps of mud ending up inside your boot, slim enough to look elegant and with the basic advantage of keeping your feet dry there’s little to argue with. Inspired by Coachella, you may have been looking forward to showing off your Prada patent sandals, or had intentions to tramp around in soggy white plimsolls but, come the reality of mudfest, you will be glad of your rubber friends – and as a survivor of last year’s Bestival I speak from experience.

Festival countdown: time to go shopping

By Colin Chapman on April 23rd, 2009

Coachella_inspired.jpgIf like me, you’ve just about recovered from Coachella-envy, you’d better get your skates on if you want to nab the best items to wear at festivals here in the UK this year. Coachella for men was all about fey Englishness, with Henry Holland and Nick Grimshaw leading the way, (as reported by Isabelle) in cool pastels and Euro-jetset colours. Topman have just about sold out of their Grimshaw-esque coral pink tailored shorts (I’m posting this entry whilst jogging to the store, elbows ready), though the green make a suitable alternative. And for a touch of Agyness Deyn’s faded-stars-and-stripes glory, try this super T-shirt by Der Sammler at OkiNi.

Franz Ferdinand enlist Christian Westphal for tour costumes

By admin on March 25th, 2009

franz ferdinand tour tonight christian westphal.jpg

Ever since their inception into the pop charts Franz Ferdinand have been pretty fashion savvy, but now they’re stepping things up a notch as they’ve enlisted Danish designer Christian Westphal to come up with costumes for their upcoming tour. Promoting their latest album ‘Tonight’ their tour takes them across Europe and then to the US including an appearance at Californian festival Coachella.

The Franz are obviously keeping their fingers in as many fashion pies as possible, the Scottish quartet have also been snapped by Karl Lagerfeld for German magazine Stern, as well as featuring in the latest John Varvatos ad campaign.

Jarvis Cocker at Coachella

By ShinyMedia on May 8th, 2007

JarvisJarvis has moved on from his charity shop chic uniform of his Britpop years and has settled in nicely to a check shirt, jeans, buckle belt and corduroy jacket. It’s a bit hard to pull off a pervy schoolteacher look when you’re in your forties, and Jarvis’ new look suits his pared down music. Get your hands on a similar western-style shirt from Howies for £75, or from Plaid Pony Vintage for $28 where you can also pick up a vintage belt buckle for $24. Ballyhoo Vintage have got a great velvet jacket for $65 which will definitely give you the Jarvis look. See after the jump for product images.
