L’Officiel Hommes Singapore: Launch Issue with Dior Homme, Kris Van Assche and Cole Mohr!

l'officielhommes.jpg

L’Officiel Hommes has just launched in Singapore and their launch issue is a high-fashion, Dior Homme-loaded festival of sartorial savoir-faire.

By this I mean that we’re given great editorials with the likes of model Cole Mohr, photographer Milan Vukmirovic, and Dior Homme-designer Kris Van Assche directing a 10-page editorial featuring only Dior Homme clothes! The magazine has really pulled out all the stops for this issue and it is hopefully the precedent for a great future.

WISHLIST: CDG Embossed Wallet at Start London

cdg.jpg

My style pick for this week is this gorgeous Comme Des Garcons wallet from Start London. Mr Start, a past columnist for Brandish, has a great look and I can imagine this item slotting into his vintage chic and classic cool wardrobe quite nicely. The embossed leather is a great cerulean blue, made famous by the brilliant film ‘The Devil Wears Prada.’ The wallet has a zip around two sides and an “internal pocket to hold either coins, cards or bills.”

Karl Lagerfeld: A Cuddly Bear for Children of Today?

klbear2.jpg
“Bears are very nice, as long as you are nice to them”

For a man who claims to not only feel no human emotion but to want no possessions, memories or immortilisation, Karl Lagerfeld sure likes to have his bedazzled fingers in a lot of different pies. After Grand Theft Auto, the Kaiser has collaborated with the German toy manufacturer Steiff on a Karl Lagerfeld teddy bear. That means a bear decked out in all the maestro’s signature pieces; the sunglasses, the rings, the high-collared shirt, skinny trousers, statement belt and skinny tie.

Office Wear Chic In The Independent

madmencollage.jpg

Reading through The Independent Online last night, I came across this article by Alice-Azania Jarvis on the art of dressing for work. As she states, “the thing about getting dressed for work – the thing that makes it so very difficult – is that work is definitely not about clothes. On the contrary: in the world of earnest employment, such frivolities are almost frowned upon.”

YSL Men S/S 09: A Different Kind of Preview…

ysl.jpg

For this season, the genius designer Stefano Pilati has decided to preview the label’s menswear collection in the form of an incredibly arty mini-film called ‘Figures Entwining.’ With a couple of androgynous male and female models, Pilati shows a main male (fully clothed in YSL goodness) being showered by this mass of bodies.

Brandish Poll: Thom Browne or Tom Ford?

newyorktimes.jpg

Image: Eric Johnson for The New York Times

Thom Browne and Tom Ford are without a doubt two of Brandish’s favourite designers and so imagine my surprise when I got e-mailed this article from the New York Times. It compares the work of both men and includes such literary gems as “The Tom Ford man is an Anglicized gloss on Hollywood style, while Thom Browne’s designs evoke the hipness of eternal adolescence” and Tom Ford’s brilliant definition of masculininty; “to be masculine is to fuse the debonair cut of a Savile Row suit with the swagger of a star from 1970s pornography.”

I made the Brandish team answer this rather sadistic question and you can see their (unwilling) answers after the jump.

Thom Browne Runs…In Thom Browne Cardies!

This is probably a good time to admit that before Brandish, I wasn’t too involved in the world of menswear (only now do I realise how much I was missing out on!) However, Thom Browne is one of those designers who manages to capture two opposite industries with just the cut of a hem and the snip of a gorgeous thread. His signature look of shrunken suit, sports socks and loafers has cemented him as a style icon for both sexes and his shows have even inspired my own trend reports. Now, Style.com has talked to him about his exercise regime (although running daily on tracks including Central Park, the Eiffel Tower and the Imperial Gardens of Japan are a luxury rather inaccessible to us hoi polloi.) But I really must warn you that the vid may leave you feeling slightly inferior- after all how many of us can claim to have completed 15 marathons worldwide and still be running in Thom Browne knitwear?

Henrik Vibskov’s Fantabulous Bicycle Music Factory collection

henrik vibskov.jpg

I’ve just stumbled across Henrik Vibskov’s menswear collection and on first glance it’s a bit intimidating but I’m intrigued by the brick print tank top and I love what he’s doing with madras. Individually I think the pieces are really strong and the Aztec/computer game pixellated knits are the height of geek chic.

Julie Verhoeven Tees for Mulberry

Julie Verhoeven, the artist and fashion-collaboration extraordinaire has designed a set of t-shirts with her illustrations of animals and other strange creatures. Vogue UK reports that Verhoeven’s fun and frivolous tees are in-store now for both guys and girls at £50 each. Verhoeven relays that “the artwork for the T-shirts came about by wanting a little bit of loopyness for …

Top Five: New Male Scents

Thumbnail image for bergdorfsign.jpg

Like tax and death, scent is one of life’s fickle promises. I have just returned from a trip to New York and I couldn’t help but notice how great everyone smelt (not in some strange Charlie’s Angels hair-sniffer way.) In the returning yellow cab to JFK, my week in the Big Apple flashed before my eyes as a flurry of smiling sales associates and the now dog-eared sample cards currently resonating through my conscience (and bedroom!) Whether you have a Grenouille like nose or are suspiciously blind to the sweet smell of- well smell, ‘cologne’ or ‘scent’ is something that you need to be firmly aquainted with.
