Chambray shirts – the fashion equivalent of Lime Pickle

And now for the cheapo. It looks fairly well made and has button down collars and twin chest pockets New Look

There are many things in life that I can’t quite make my mind up about. For example The Horrors are they an innovative exciting band or just rehashing old Kraut Rock riffs with the odd 80s power pop interlude. And Lime Pickle. Is it the culinary equivalent of bungee jumping or the only real accompaniment for a poppadom. I don’t really know. I change my mind on these issues on almost daily basis.

As I do with Chambray shirts. They really are everywhere at the moment and according to some fashion writers you really don’t have a wardrobe unless you are out and about with pastel one with all the buttons done up and the sleeves rolled as high as they can go.

Yet do you really need one? I can’t help but thinking that the case against them is pretty overwhelming, as whisper it, they are a tad boring.

For most blokes there precious few opportunities to express our inner dandy, especially without looking like a bit of a pratt. One of the most obvious ways is a bit of a patterns on your shirt but it Gingham, Stripey or even, on a very good day paisley. It makes you out as individual and someone who at least put a bit of thought in what they are wearing. This is especially true when you are wearing casual clothes.

As for Chambray shirts, well they mainly come in plain very dull looking pastel colours, They don’t say much about you at all. In fact if they say anything it is that you are trying just a little too hard. Not a lot of individuality going on there. They are the current equivalent of those big baggy brightly coloured shirts that everyone was wearing untucked in the 90s.

Then again I can’t deny that on some people they do actually look rather good. Every year there’s a hipster trend that hits the mainstream (toffee coloured trousers are this season’s other contenders). It is a shame that this year it is such a dull one.

Anyhow here’s a selection of Chambray shirts including a few that sport a bit of a twist.

Diesel Underdenim underwear is for low slacks, not “Never Nude” dudes

By Gerald Lynch on October 3rd, 2012

Diesel Underdenim

Under…denims? That’s the new underwear push from Diesel, who’ve put together a new range of “Underdenim” trunks for men who like to wear their slacks low with a bit of cheek on show, otherwise known as the “Most Dumbest Fashion Fad Eva”.

Misleading marketing be-damned, they’re made of cotton rather than denim (which we’re certain your knackers will be thankful for), and are designed to blend in with your jeans if you’re “riding low batty”.

The argument then surely is to just invest in a belt instead and keep your trousers pulled up, but then we’d all look like Tories or something is what I assume is being inferred here.

Yours for £20 a pop from Diesel, we’re just a little bit disappointed that they don’t have a touch more influence from  Tobias “Never Nude” Funke of Arrested Development fame:

Marc Jacobs Menswear for 5 More Years (which is 5 more Christmases!)

By Will Reid on November 11th, 2008

00030m.jpgDNR reports today that Marc Jacobs International has signed a contract with Staff International (a part of Diesel founder Renzo Rosso’s fashion empire) that will see Marc by Marc Jacobs Menswear expand over the next five years. Already in Rosso’s couture stable are Dsquared2, Viktor & Rolf, Maison Martin Margiela and Vivienne Westwood.

The contract means that Staff International will have exclusive rights to the production and distribution of the Marc Jacobs menswear line but, with Rosso’s history of major successes, I think this can only be a good move for both parties.

By admin on October 10th, 2008

The massive queue, deep in denim conversation.

As we arrived to Neal Street this morning the queue outside the Diesel shop snaked around Earlham Street and almost spilled out onto Seven Dials.
The fuss was for Diesel’s Dirty Thirty limited edition jeans, created to celebrate thirty years of diesel, modelled by Daisy Lowe and retailing for just £30 you can see why so many people turned up for the one-day only sale. 160 Diesel shops are taking part in the promotion, and we stopped to chat to the patient shoppers at the Covent Garden store.

Take a look at the gallery on Catwalk Queen.

Life begins at (Dirty) Thirty

By Jonathan Smith on October 5th, 2008

ieselfront.jpg

Life begins at 30, or so they say- I’m 24 and I beg to differ. Come my 30th birthday I will become a recluse until my 50th and can rejoin society with a cane and pipe, because middle age just isn’t cool. However for a denim brand a 30th birthday is the prime of its youth so lets all send our warmest birthday wishes to Italian denim fiends Diesel.

To mark their 30th birthday Diesel launch their “Dirty Thirty” campaign a multi-city, multi-time zone, uber-party kicking off in Tokyo on the 11th of this very month and to commemorate the occasion for one day only will be a limited edition super cheap pair of Diesel denim jeans costing a zany €30. The jeans will be available from 10am this Friday in select Diesel stores and it is expected that they will sell out bloody quick, so pull your finger out and get down early if you want to get your hands on the cheapest, most exclusive jeans of this season.

Check out more pics after the jump.

Diesel not working with Hedi Slimane

By admin on May 9th, 2008

hedi.jpgWhen word first spread of Hedi Slimane working on a Diesel red campaign, it originally looked like Diesel had pulled off the fashion scoop of the century.

The idea of Diesel, the brand more associated with premiership footballers than fashion icons, working with Hedi Slimane was too weird to be true. Apparently Hedi thought so too, putting out a statement saying that he had “no interest at all in Renzo Rosso’s group, let alone Diesel”. Ouch. He could have just denied it.

Adidas Originals denim by Diesel

By admin on February 5th, 2008

Adidieselcol

The Adidas originals range tends to throw
up interesting collaborations from time to time and this is no different. The originals
denim by Diesel range is an interesting mix – if only for the fact that you
wonder why Diesel agreed to it. It’s not bad in any way, it’s just that the
pieces are just Diesel jeans with some Adidas branding attached.

With that said, the Adidas logo was added
in an innovative manner. Adding the three stripes to the selvedge line is
especially inspired, although it may disappoint selvedge show offs who want to
brag about the quality of their jeans. The range is available from Adidas Originals stores and prices start from £115.

Hedi Slimane back?

By admin on December 20th, 2007

Hedislimane
According to the rumours via DNR, Hedi Slimane is in talks with his old backer, Bernard Arnault, about launching a brand new collection under his own name. Monsieur Arnault is chair of Dior and LVMH, which owns Fendi, Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton amongst others. He is also 7th richest man in the world so he’s a good bloke to be having a business lunch with.
