Harvey Milk: first film-related trend of 2009

By Colin Chapman on January 2nd, 2009

Of all the films pending release in early 2009, MilkGus Van Sant‘s biopic of the gay rights leader/politician Harvey Milk – is most likely to have an impact on the fashion front. As we stride towards a boot-legged, tight-hipped summer, the movie might just start to look prescient: suggesting alternatives to the side parting (big hair!) and yet more reasons to grow a moustache.

Whilst it’s unlikely that Sean Penn will be raising much sartorial interest (despite a great performance) his more fashion-friendly co-stars just might. Emile Hirsch, who graced the cover of AnOther Magazine last year, wears his big-frame specs with a certain nous and his leather jacket/plaid shirt combo is thriftstore classic. Meanwhile, Lucas Grabeel turns more than a few Castro-bound heads, looking especially fetching in a frock, though, in general, he works the 70s look with aplomb as does Milk’s love interest, James Franco.

Milk is in UK cinemas from January 23rd.

Emile Hirsch to be the face of Valentino SS 09

By admin on June 23rd, 2008

emile hirsch valentino.jpgSpeed Racer star Emile Hirsch (pictured left, backstage at the MTV Movie Awards) has been picked as the face of Valentino’s men’s spring/summer 2009 collection.

Emile was in Milan recently for the Valentino shoot which will be unveiled at a presentation in Paris. Emile himself will be in attendance at the presentation in the afternoon.

This isn’t Emile’s first foray into fashion, the Californian actor appeared on the cover of Another Man magazine in March looking thoroughly stylish in a paisley shirt.

Brandish Poll: Do you own a bespoke suit?

By admin on May 22nd, 2008

emile hirsch bespoke suit.jpg
For every Emile Hirsch there are a thousand badly made, ill-fitting suits out there that routinely make me weep. You can get a good suit on the high street nowadays, but I still think that bespoke is the best way to go if you want a quality three-piece. Take our poll after the jump and let us know whether you’re a bespoke kind of person or a high street fan.

Celeb Style: Emile Hirsch’s Casual Cool

By Will Reid on May 1st, 2008

Emile Hirsch seems to have perfected the laid-back but oh-so-stylish celebrity look. Whether on his Another Man cover or at an early morning press conference, Hirsch is usually seen open-collared with a smile and noticeable lack of “gay guy” fake-tan.

At the European Premiere of Speed Racer, Hirsch turned up in a brilliant pin-stripe suit (possibly navy inspired?) and a relaxed shirt. There was no fussy detail or shiny shoes but instead, Hirsch went without jewellery and wore his hair as if he was attending a Sunday Starbucks. I guess it’s a shame then that the whole look was rained upon- literally.

Another Man Spring/ Summer 2008- Emile Hirsch

By Will Reid on March 13th, 2008

21677211wu3From Madonna and Tom Ford to Drew Barrymore and Gwen Stefani; March is the issue in which all the magazines showcase the latest collections and therefore (along with September) it is the month that ever editor, reader and model either dreads or not-so-patiently awaits.

At one time this only applied to the girls mags but as the menswear market booms we are seeing a shift and the latest issue of Another Man only furthers this theory. Emile Hirsch, star of Sean Penn’s ‘Into the Wild’ and the new blockbuster ‘Speed Racer,’ is the cover model of the latest issue and the styling of the cover is a fresh and welcome relief from the dramatic and overly artistic looks that most editors go for around this time of the year. No leather or chains or sharp tailoring but only the paisley printed pleasure of newly-sprung spring joy. That and the undoubtable good looks of Hirsch add to this ‘New Bohemia’ mood.

However, do not be fooled by the slightly dazed atmosphere of Hirsch’s pensive stare- this issue involves the rebellious likes of Nick Cave, Michael Stipe and Jon Savage. Throw on a patterned shirt, light a (completely drug-free) spliff and chime with the birds- Spring has officially sprung.
