New Era Japan WM-01 Waterproof Collection

By Laura on September 12th, 2011

I have really noticed a change in the weather in the last few days, and as a cyclist have had more rainy commutes than dry.

While a waterproof jacket is essential, I have found myself also looking for a waterproof cap to help make the commute just a bit nicer. However, you try finding a waterproof hat that doesn’t look like you have stuck a condom on your head….its not an easy task.

Enter New Era Japan. They recently created a waterproof series of caps, with the latest in this great military style. The exterior is made of a waterproof nylon material, with a contrasting color New Era logo visible on the left side of the cap. While the interior is made of a breathable mesh fabric. This durable cap is available in a variety of colourways – perfect for the Fall and Winter seasons. The only catch… its only available through New Era Japan. Good luck navigating the site

Alexander McQueen menswear show at Pitti Uomo, Milan

The standout show at Pitti Uomo was, in my mind, Alexander McQueen’s “The McQueensberry Rules”. Where most Milan designers literally translated the gloom of the economic crisis McQueen added a murderous glint to the proceedings with aristocratic eleagance and a glossy nostalgia for a pre-Thatcherite Britain.

Sending models down the catwalk with fingerless gloves, silver-topped canes and darkened, bloodshot eyes it seemed that McQueen had gone the safe route of pairing outlandish styling with conventional clothing, but on closer inspection everything about this collection gave off a menacing whiff.

Referencing some of the most aggressive or manic male archetypes everyone from the majestic to the deranged got a look in. Skinheads’ oxblood 10 hole DMs, teddy boys’ draped jackets combined with Jack the Ripper menace and Clockwork Orange swagger for a collection that was admittedly theatrical but anchored by impeccable tailoring. Trousers were tight, and a strong upper half was emphasised with sharp suit jackets, thick coats and beefy woollens. Chainmail vests, butcher’s aprons and boxing gloves alluded to traditional facets of men in the workplace in a proudly aggressive and vital assertion of masculinity.

Jump through to watch an impressive video of the show, with thunderous music and songs by the Specials and the Stranglers, you can watch part two here.

The season is a changing

By Jonathan Smith on September 26th, 2008

fall08.jpgAutumn is coming, the leaves are beginning to drop, the nights a drawing in and I’m retrieving my knocked off Burberry scarves (yes- scarves, three in fact: navy nova check, grey nova check and the classic beige nova check, don’t try to hide your jealousy) from the back of the wardrobe.

So what does this mean for us real folk who don’t go to the borders to paint the changing of the seasons? Well it means we go out and buy new outfits of course! Not everything lasts a year in fashion so don’t be relying on last years wardrobe to see you through this one- I feel a men.stlye.com buying guide coming on- and here it is, the men.style.com buying guide for Autumn 08. Like most buying guides from men.style.com many of the pieces featured are expensive and unaccessible but there are cheaper alternatives out there and lets face it, it’s a buying guide not the gospel.

Jump through for my top 3 from the list.
