Complete the Ivy League look with Filofax

By Laura on November 21st, 2011

As the world around us becomes increasingly digital, there is something refreshing about keeping somethings ‘analogue.’

I often get teased about the fact that I carry around a calendar and don’t just rely on my iPhone. Don’t get me wrong I love my iPhone, and have found some really useful organization apps, but they just don’t give me the same sense of satisfaction as I get from putting pen to paper (I should probably mention here I still prefer to use a fountain pen).

My old fashioned preferences aside, who said a good calendar can’t be a great accessory? I have been eyeing the latest offerings from Filofax for a while now, and love the Malden organiser.

The Malden, comes in a beautiful glazed buffalo leather finish in a range of colours. In my opinion it is also the perfect accessory to complete the Ivy league trend which has been so popular this fall.

Available in four sizes ranging from £55- £100 you can pick one up here.

ASOS Urban Tour – The 2011 Fall/Winter Collection

By Laura on September 14th, 2011

Its no secret that we are big fans of ASOS here at Brandish, and we can’t wait to see what they will be rolling out for their Fall/Winter 2011 collection.

To launch the collection they have created a brilliant new interactive website called ASOS Urban Tour, exploring street trends in London, Paris, Berlin, LA, and New York. The Paris video (above) follows an in-line skating crew taking the viewer on a city tour, while showing off some key pieces from the collection.

ASOS consistently demonstrate a fantastic understanding of the current fashion landscape and trends, which once again is reflected in their diverse seasonal offering. Anyways make sure to check out the rest of the campaign here.

Supreme x Levi’s 2011 Fall/Winter Collection

By Laura on September 12th, 2011

Supreme is at it again this time partnering up with Levi’s on their new capsule collection for Fall/Winter 2011.

The collection features a number of standard staples from the American denim giant, including Levi’s 505 Zip-Fly Jean, a Chambray Work Shirt, a Trucker Jacket in leather and suede, a Denim Down Vest and Denim Bell Hat. Although I love the collection, I can’t help but feel that most of it does not look that different from the regular Levi’s collection. Hopefully prices will not be over inflated just because the pieces have a Supreme label slapped in them.

The collection is being assembled in the US and expected to hit stores Sept 15th, Japan on the 17th and the new London store on the 22nd.

The Nike Ralston Premium TAPE

By Laura on September 12th, 2011

We have been predicting for a while now that the desert boot would be a popular trend this season – and it looks like we were right. Nike, is the latest brand to jump on the band wagon with the Ralston Premium TAPE sneaker.

The burgundy suede shoe, has clearly been inspired by the desert boot silhouette, with its minimalistic construction, three eyelets and matching flat laces. What I like most about this shoe is the subtle attention to detail, from the embossed Nike logo on the tongue, to the tape seams and even the corresponding burgundy soles, coming together to create am understated yet eye-catching urban look.

The Nike Ralston Premium TAPE is set to go on sale October 8

Wolverine No. 1883 Mayall Boot

By Laura on September 12th, 2011

The utilitarian look is set to be big this fall. Both practical and stylish this look is perfect for damp fall weather. Michigan based brand, Wolverine, have been making wonderful rugged boats since 1883, combining tradition with modern style. This season, the Wolverine No. 1883 collection, is comprised of eleven new styles all with an emphasis on fine craftsmanship, heritage and distinctive designs.

My favourite has to be the Wolverine Mayall boot which features a butter-soft full-grain leather upper, plaid woven print lining, fold down functionality for extra versatility, and rubber grips to prevent you sliding around the sidewalk.

The Mayall boot is available here for $225 USD or £142 GBP

Kurt Geiger Lincoln Chukka Boot

By Laura on August 19th, 2011

Popular British shoe brand, Kurt Geiger, has recently relaunched their website with a new online shop. To celebrate they are releasing the very stylish Lincoln boot exclusively online.

The chukka will once again be a massive trend this fall, and I love this incarnation of the look. Made up of a pressed wool upper, with suede accents around the laces and a thick wedge sole, this shoe will keep you right on trend and will look great with a pair of dark washed jeans.

The shoe will be available next month through Kurt Geiger

Dockers Alpha Khakis present: The Blind Barber

By Laura on July 25th, 2011

Dockers have been doing a great job re-brand themselves recently, proving they are no longer just for your dad. The latest product to join their line-up is the Alpha Khaki. To celebrate the launch Dockers have partnered with the New York barbershop, The Blind Barber. Despite the fact they have only been open for a year, they have developed a cult following and are best known for their quality cuts in a subdued lifestyle environment – qualities mirrored by the Dockers.

The Alpha khaki combines aims to combine the sensibilities of denim including a slimmer fit, lower rise and beefier construction with the comfort of khakis. The Alpha features “reinforcement, topstitching and over-lock seaming details, along with some of the dressed-up touches of a more tailored trouser. Similar to a pair of jeans, the ‘Alpha’ is cut from heavier-weight khaki fabrics, specifically selected to wear, wrinkle and age in ways denim would soften and break in over time.”

Expect to see the Alpha in stores from August in 12 different colourways.

Jimmy Choo for men launching on Mr. Porter

By Laura on July 5th, 2011

Last December Jimmy Choo announced they were set to launch the brand’s return to footwear. And now after months of waiting, they are finally ready to launch the collection in collaboration with Mr. Porter

Given the months of hype around this new collection, I do wonder if they can possibly live up to the hype. That said if the short film ‘Walking the Line’, they created for the Men’s AW 11 collection is anything to go by, I am going to say – YES!

On a side note I love that the film is set in New York’s High Line park, as I had the chance to visit last week (see picture below). For those not familiar, the High Line was originally constructed in the 1930s, to lift dangerous freight trains off Manhattan’s streets. Recently it has been converted into a beautiful mile-and-a-half-long elevated park, running through the West Side neighborhoods of the Meatpacking District, West Chelsea and Clinton/Hell’s Kitchen. If your in New York make sure to check it out.

Burberry Autumn 2011 Campaign Looks

By Laura on June 19th, 2011

It hardly feels as though we have had a summer, but Burberry have already unveiled their Autumn 2011 campaign looks.

Featuring a number of British actors, models and musicians, Chief Creative Officer Christopher Bailey, stated he was “inspired by iconic British portraits and our own archive campaigns from the late 1960s of Jean Shrimpton using her trench coat to shelter herself from the poetic and romantic British weather.”

What do you think?

Book Club 2011 Fall Lookbook

By Laura on April 11th, 2011

A friend in Melbourne recently sent me the Australian brand Book Club’s Fall 2011 look book.
I love the aesthetic of the shoot… and the clothes weren’t half bad either. The collection is comprised of simple clean looks that focus on solid color blocks, chinos, jeans, and button-down long-sleeves. One other notable item in the collection was the two-tone parka with contrasting drawstrings – great for English weather. To find out more about the collection Check out their site here

135 Years of Jockey

By Laura on March 29th, 2011

Last week Brandish was invited to celebrate 135 years of Jockey Underwear, at an impressive international catwalk show. The show saw the brand go back to its roots, showcasing a number of heritage pieces from its original collection in 1879, before introducing some of Jockey’s more updated collections for A/W 2011.

GQ Editor Dylan Jones, hosted the night and provided the audience with product highlights from Jockey’s 135 history, from its beginnings with predecessor Samuel T Cooper and classic all-in-ones, to the space underwear created for NASA and the 3D Innovations collection of today.

The Models moved through different eras through in a highly choreographed show, that even featured dubstep at one point. The new collections that were revealed within the catwalk, included the latest USA Originals range, meant to encapsulate the ‘American Way of Life’, the Urban Luxury range and Countryside range, representing the North American outdoors.

Overall it was a great night and a really fun way to not only see how Jockey have grown as a brand, but how their product has really developed over the years. Trust me, I am glad no one is rocking the onesy anymore!

Rag & Bone 2011 Fall Collection

By Laura on February 13th, 2011

British design duo Marcus Wainwright and David Neville have just showcased their Fall 2011 collection for the NYC-based label rag & bone. They may be better known for their denim heritage, but as this collection demonstrates they are now attempting to take menswear to a whole new level.

Although I am not sure about some of the styling, there is no denying they have brought both expert tailoring and layering together to create a truly original look. The collection was inspired by photos of the Duke of Windsor, and the designers incorporated an array of tartan plaids onto everything from jackets and suits to quilted shirts and kilts.

Personally I love the eclectic colour palette that is used across everything from wool suits to quilted leggings. This is a risky collection, but that said I think there are a number of really strong pieces – possibly even some of rag & bone’s best yet.

Check out the full collection in the gallery below.

Introducing Blanc & Noir

By Laura on January 26th, 2011

While back in Canada over the holidays I discovered this amazing Vancouver-based label, Blanc & Noir. The brain child of Saskatoon-raised Jean Claude LeBlanc, the label focuses on creating timeless looks with a dedication to high-quality production. In fact with the exception of the Italian-made footwear and Japanese selvedge denim, the collection is made almost entirely in Canada.
Their debut collection will be out Fall/Winter 2011so make sure to keep an eye out for it.
