This new feature highlights the looks we love. Whether it be charity-shop mannequins or fashion week-shots, we will tell you which outfits are rocking our fashion-obsessed world. The first post of this feature looks at Richard Chai’s collection and the one look that I would literally kill for. (Okay, maybe not kill but beat up that glossy male model for sure.)
The whole collection had the feel of street-style and with increased ethnicity in the models used by different labels I think it is clear that the industry is beginning to move away from high-gloss and fake tans. Why go for prissy Versace-boy when you can be an adventurous Dunhill-man?
Check out those high-tops and that two-tone shirt and I doubt you will be able to resist the charm of a young designer only in his second season. I would say ‘out with the old’ but then again I believe it unnecessary to have yet another look at Yohji Yamamoto’s ghost model.

A while ago, we remarked on how a Telegraph feature on the short suit had used rather unusual models to create an unflattering portrayal of the look.
However, this picture (taken at the launch of Gucci by Gucci Pour Homme in Milan,) shows that even the fashionistos of the industry can’t get it right. While also not the most model-ly of men, Bruce Pask of the New York Times would be one of those I thought could pull of this challenging look.
My verdict? I think this would look better with cropped sleeves. Simply roll up your long sleeves to the elbow or at least take them off the cuff as this contrast of short/sleeve length is usually an unflattering one.
Try shoes that can be worn without socks; a cool loafer or Topman canvas brogue. I, as a bit of a sartorial risk-taker (read: hit/miss dresser,) would add a pair of House of Holland velvet loafers in shocking purple or pink.
Now if only Lapo Elkann would give it a try!

For those of you who haven’t watched Amy Winehouse’s performance at Nelson Mandela’s 90th Birthday, she does this thing where she pulls on her skirt while she sings. She looks to me a victim of ‘Summer Spirit.’
You know what I mean- when all you want to wear are your swimshorts and the thought of a buttoned up shirt and trousers makes you itch. Don’t worry Amy, I have found the answer to this shared problem and it comes in the form of Dries Van Noten’s transparent shirt. Seen in his current SS09 show, this shirt is striped and looks to be made of a silk-like material. It looks cool (in both the urban dictionary and weather sense) and with that white collar and contrast-stripe collar and cuff detail, is a perfect summer piece.

I’m officially torn- Luke Worrall, the male-supermodel and It-boy of the London fashion scene has been spotted (now that’s an understatement) with Kelly Osbourne. My question is whether she is a suitable match for a rising fashion star. I’m personally not a fan but then I’m a fashion writer who is rather over-protective when it comes to sartorial stars. That’s right Tom Cruise- don’t even try to get near our Aggy!
The couple were spotted at the ‘Night of Tease’ fundraiser at the Cafe de Paris on the 15th of May and have since been seen in more cute outfits and even cuter embraces. What do you think? Does ‘Worrelly‘ have a future or are we agreed that Ms. Osbourne and Mr. Worrall are as bad a match as Amy Winehouse and ‘Free Nelson Mandela?’ Poll after the jump.

Today is the last day of the Milan Menswear shows and by the looks of things they’re not taking any sartorial chances, preferring the relative comfort and security of preppy.
This perennial favourite appeared on the catwalks at Versace, Dolce & Gabbana and Enrico Coveri.

Sales
By admin on June 20th, 2008
OK, so we’re a bit slow bringing you this info but *searches frantically for positive angle* that just means you miss the opening day rush, right? Plus it’s Friday. One is in a more shoppy mood on a Friday, I find.
So, yes – the Liberty spring/summer sale is now on, with up to 50% off selected items.
The Liberty website mentions Marc Jacobs, Marni and Lanvin at reduced yet still reassuringly expensive prices. Rather annoyingly you can’t buy anything in the sale from the site itself, so it looks like a trip to one of their London stores may be in order.
At this point non-Londoners are quite welcome to curse me for bringing them news that is quite worthless to them.
[Thanks to Fancy Dan for the heads-up]

While most men opt for the safe bet of ties, socks and other traditional Father’s Day gifts, I have always wanted to get something better. I spend weeks and months searching for something perfect in its masculine luxury, but when your dad works for Tesco’s your options are sadly limited. As a result, I often end up presentless and apologetic by the Third Sunday of June (like today, for instance.)
I was a fan of Isabelle’s ‘Caviar’ ties but only this afternoon (how horrendously cruel is that?) found these Prada Lifestlye sets.
Cards, Shoe Shining, Airline Comfort Kits- check out all these great belated gift options at prada.com

After visiting Mumbai I am more convinced than ever that fashion is one of those things that unites the World. In these let few days I have seen a harsh and gripping poverty but also a vibrancy and pride that made for some great sights. Prepare for home-made man bags, children challenging fashion rules and prints that wouldn’t look out of place on a Burberry runway. There is no insensitivity intended here but an appreciation for the contagious positivity so inspirationally radiated by these young Men of Mumbai.
Keep reading for great street-style shots and a rather phenomenal blend of fabrics, styles and looks.

There are times I love gorging over celebrity looks; Cannes glamour, Oscar glory, MTV glitz. Then there are times when rather rubbish boybands return with a receding hairline and a group of barely-dressed female dancers, thinking they can win us all over with a rendition of an old classic and a bit of David Brent-dancing. Of course to pretend that BoyZone did not contribute to the Reid family soundrack would be a lie as Ronan’s “When You Say Nothing At All” has not only made my Mum cry but got my brother 16,414 Youtube hits. (I have, myself, never been influenced by that Irish twang and chorus of fiddles and flutes.)
Imagine my horror when the band recently returned to the O2 Arena in lamé trousers and chest-revealing waistcoats. I never thought I would be saying this but for once Take That could provide sutiable style inspiration.

Thom Browne and Tom Ford are without a doubt two of Brandish’s favourite designers and so imagine my surprise when I got e-mailed this article from the New York Times. It compares the work of both men and includes such literary gems as “the Tom Ford man is an Anglicized gloss on Hollywood style, while Thom Browne’s designs evoke the hipness of eternal adolescence” and Tom Ford’s brilliant definition of masculininty; “to be masculine is to fuse the debonair cut of a Savile Row suit with the swagger of a star from 1970s pornography.”
I made the Brandish team answer this rather sadistic question and you can see their (unwilling) answers after the jump along with a Brandish Poll.

Designer Spotlight, T-shirts, Polos & Shirts

A few weeks ago I spotted something on Nicola Formichetti’s blog but thought it was too vague (being only a set of pictures) and decided not to post. Well now I wish I had because as part of the new Uniqlo UT T-Shirt Collection, campaign stylist Nicola Formichetti has actually designed a few pieces. My favourite is the one above, printed with a copy of Luke Worrall from the Dazed & Confused ‘Black and White’ cover of August 2007. Sharp, edgy and extremely wearable in it’s monochrome entirety, this tee would be a great buy.

Yesterday, I really enjoyed
Jason’s piece on the right-wing tendencies of modern magazines but this obviously doesn’t apply in America- well that’s if the latest US GQ cover is anything to go by. The actor Robert Downey Jr. stars and this time it is not with props from his latest Iron Man movie (
ah, Gwyneth) but in seemingly fetish-inspired stocking hats and stripes. Would you expect anything less from Terry Richardson?
“The jail time, the lousy movies… Those days are gone…in the best shape of his (very hard-lived) life, throwing back algae shakes, developing the armor of a superhero, and yes, conquering demons.”
More great stuff after the jump!

Everyone has had that person they wanted to impress; the girl, the guy, the parent, the boss. And what better medium than fashion? Whether it’s the Louboutin slutty-stiletto (for the girls let me say) or one of Armani’s finest suits, the right look can make or break a first date.
So when Mick Jagger, a living legend with everything but height and anti-wrinkle cream on his side, took his fiancée L’Wren Scott (6′ 4″ to Mick’s 5′ 10″) to the premiere of ‘Shine a Light’ (the Rolling Stones’ new ‘rockumentary’) it was clear that he felt the need to give himself a bit of a sartorial boost. So how true is it that “love isn’t finding a perfect person, it’s seeing an imperfect person perfectly?”
Read on for more celeb examples and rather mean imagery.

Fashionista, the fashion gossip powerhouse, has stunned me with an exciting piece of news. I read about it just over a week ago but I did a bit of research and feel that I can just about explain these rather brilliant goings-on.
Diane Pernet, the extravagant fashion persona and founder of blog ‘A Shaded View on Fashion’ has come together with Dino Dinco to create a project varied enough it will excite anyone with even the slightest knowledge of fashion. The project is called ‘You Wear It Well’ and it is a touring exhibition of short fashion films made by some of the great clotheshorses of our time.
