There is so much style to wade through after show season that we’re all wasting our free-time on style.com. While looking at the detail shots of the site’s Bottega Veneta coverage, I spotted this interesting neck detail on a few of the models. There is the embarrassing chance that a few of the models simply weren’t able to put on a tie (forgive the bitchiness but you know the type) however if that were the case I would still be praising the DIY fashion brilliance.
The collection itself was aimed to provide a male uniform and the collection was very straight-laced, but this detail added a great edge. I think this may be something I try out myself as it completely elevates the look. Safety pin ties- what a brilliant idea and unexpected cause of sartorial envy.

The V&A’s China Design Now kicked off a couple of weeks ago and it looks like a visual feast. It’s a compilation of the best in architecture, graphic design, photography and fashion from the world’s biggest manufacturer. It’s the first exhibition of its kind in the UK and seeing as we’ll all be speaking Chinese in a few years anyway I’m definitely going to head over and get a head start in some design swotting!

Pete Wentz, bassist for Fall Out Boy and otherwise known as Ashlee Simpson’s boyfriend, has hit the fashion sphere.
Wentz has signed on to launch a junior sportswear line exclusive to Nordstrom in the US. The collection, which will carry the Clandestine Industries label, will feature graphic T-shirts, hoodies, denim jeans and accessories.
Last year, Wentz teamed up with DKNY Jeans (who are now collaborating with Rachel Bilson) to create a limited edition line of jeans. Since then the Clandestine Industries brand has continued selling online and from a boutique in his hometown of Chicago.

From Dalí’s lobster phones and melting clock faces to Damien Hirst’s butterfly works- Surrealism is something that we can’t seem to get out of our systems. We buy into the singers who prance around in vintage band uniforms (Gwen) and the art but something we rarely show an interest in is surrealist fashion.
The reason? It’s just too embarrassing to pop down to Tesco’s with a pair of devil horns protruding from your well-styled scalp. Well not anymore. This post will allow you to test the look without looking visually-testing and trust me when I tell you that it is easier than you think. See after the jump for more information on where this look began and (wearable) items you can put on your shopping list to mimic it.

Okay, okay- so Madonna on a magazine cover isn’t strictly menswear news but if anyone has pushed the boundaries of androgyny, it’s Madonna. As she appears on the cover of the latest issue of Dazed and Confused clad in horns, Chanel boxing gloves and peek-a-boo lingerie, Madonna is once again mixing men’s and femme’s.

There are endless trends and endless items you can wear to copy them. However, some looks are just out there to be seen.
You know what I’m talking about- the type of outfit that you might be let off wearing if the road was a catwalk and we were extras from Madonna’s ‘Vogue,’ throwing shapes at helpless passers-by. This post is out there to give those looks an airing (we might just tone it down a bit!) Let’s look at the bright suit which is a current favourite among paparazzi-prone men.

The time has come for the return of the eccentric dresser. But before you all stop reading this, firm in the belief that I have finally cracked, I promise that I am not subliminally feeding you pages from ‘An Idiot’s Guide to … being an Idiot,’ but instead providing you with an outfit that will allow you to get freaky without the raised eyebrows- more crinkled blazer than straitjacket.
See after the jump for a great, freak-chic outfit.

If you read the titles of the latest Nylon cover; "London Calling," "Get inspired by the coolest city in the World!" and "Brilliant British Beauty from the Queen to Kate Moss," you would be forgiven for thinking this was just another ‘Cool Britannia’ issue where the rich and famous club kids, models and Skins extras give bullet-point answers to mediocre interviews and direct us on a wild goose chase that eventually leads to some dingy old club.

This jacket is a perfect piece for the season transition that so often leaves us men looking like idiots when we get caught in the mid-month sunshine wearing a winter coat, scarf, jeans and a pair of flip-flops. Primarily a jacket, but thin and simple enough to be worn as a shirt, this jacket by Yves Saint Laurent is just too fantastically useful not to be in your wardrobe. With typical YSL subtleties such as the inner collar stripe detail and unusually few number of buttons, spend the cash and feel free to thank me when you become an all-weather style maven.

Alexander McQueen is undoubtedly one of our most, if not our most, exciting designers. His love of fabric and his innate understanding of what you can do with it are always a pleasure to behold. As usual he didn’t disappoint with his new collection which hit the runways of Milan at the week-end.
The trademark sharp tailoring was of course present and the silhouette doesn’t seem to have changed much from previous seasons: still square cut shoulders, shaped waists and slim legs. But then, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Brocade, another McQueen favourite was also present. This season he has perhaps been holidaying in the Andes as the overall look had a certain Mayan/ Alpacan feel to it with its hats, fringes and shaggy furs.
All in all it had plenty of drama but more than it’s fair share of wearable pieces.

We featured Start Boutique on Catwalk Queen recently and we’re pleased to hear they are introducing even more ranges for men.
Their already established Made to Measure Tailoring service will be on offer as well as a ready made suit range at a brand new Mr. Start boutique opening in February. Two styles of suit will be offered in the range, a fashion style with slim lapels and shorter sleeves and a more classic style and will be available in a range of both traditional fabrics and more unusual blends.
Mr. Start will be a dedicated tailoring store and is situated just next door to the current boutique. Prices range from £495 for an off the peg suit to £700 for made to measure.
