Brandish Poll: Thom Browne or Tom Ford?

Thom Browne and Tom Ford are without a doubt two of Brandish’s favourite designers and so imagine my surprise when I got e-mailed this article from the New York Times. It compares the work of both men and includes such literary gems as “The Tom Ford man is an Anglicized gloss on Hollywood style, while Thom Browne’s designs evoke the hipness of eternal adolescence” and Tom Ford’s brilliant definition of masculininty; “to be masculine is to fuse the debonair cut of a Savile Row suit with the swagger of a star from 1970s pornography.”

I made the Brandish team answer this rather sadistic question and you can see their (unwilling) answers after the jump.

US GQ- May 2008: Robert Downey Jr.

GQMAY-2008.jpg
Yesterday, I really enjoyed Jason’s piece on the right-wing tendencies of modern magazines but this obviously doesn’t apply in America- well that’s if the latest US GQ cover is anything to go by. The actor Robert Downey Jr. stars and this time it is not with props from his latest Iron Man movie (ah, Gwyneth) but in seemingly fetish-inspired stocking hats and stripes. Trends: Watch & Wear- Le Freak c’est Chic!

The time has come for the return of the eccentric dresser. But before you all stop reading this, firm in the belief that I have finally cracked, I promise that I am not subliminally feeding you pages from ‘An Idiot’s Guide to … being an idiot’ but instead providing you with an outfit that will allow you to get freaky without the raised eyebrows- more crinkled blazer than straight-jacket.

Nylon February 2008-The Kills

If you read the titles of the latest Nylon cover; “London Calling,” “Get inspired by the coolest city in the World!” and “Brilliant British Beauty from the Queen to Kate Moss,” you would be forgiven for thinking this was just another ‘Cool Britannia’ issue where the rich and famous club kids, models and Skins extras give bullet-point answers to mediocre interviews and direct us on a wild goose chase that eventually leads to some dingy old club.
